LG PK950N - AppleTV4 turns it on, along with the Sony BDV sound system connected to the TV, but the Apple TV does not turn the tv off, only the audio system. Will check tomorrow if the tv remote turns off the AppleTV.

I have a Vizio D50u-D1 (2016 4K), everything works (Apple TV can turn on Vizio TV, control volume), and the Vizio remote even works with the Apple TV out of the box (D-Pad and other limited control). The only thing that doesn't work is sleeping the Apple TV does not turn off the Vizio TV. I've set it to auto-sleep as suggested here, but it's odd and ridiculous that literally EVERYTHING ELSE works. Both are on latest firmware. Resetting the TV did not work, unplugging the Apple TV did not work.

At least TVs these days are capable of being updated, imagine if it was a firmware issue with a monitor, we'd all be ****ed...

I have the opposite problem with my Sony in that I never want Apple TV to power my Sony on or off.

We have the TV running all day, large family, and it's always on FiOS for watching broadcast TV. We use Apple TV situationally, turn it on for an hour to watch a show, then go right back to FiOS for broadcast TV. So it's completely annoying to be watching broadcast, flip over to Apple TV for a bit, then flip it back to broadcast and have Apple TV shut off the Sony. It's not the experience we want at all.

Is it the simple switching of inputs that shuts off the TV, or is it the AppleTV being put into standby/sleep that does it? And if it's the latter, why not just leave the AppleTV on all the time then? Set its sleep settings to "Never."

The unit uses very little power (between 2 and 4 watts, I believe.) Not very costly, even calculated annually. It would take 15 Apple TVs, all streaming HD video, to use the same amount of power as a common 60W light bulb.
[doublepost=1471445644][/doublepost]For those having frustrating HDMI-CEC issues, but want to keep using their AppleTV Remote to control everything, have a look at the "Sideclick." It's a handy little cradle you can attach to the remote, that adds a few programmable Infared buttons. And they just came out with an adapter cradle for the 4th gen AppleTV.

It's when Apple TV goes to sleep. If my HDTV is on the Apple TV input, when ATV goes to sleep it shuts off the TV. If my HDTV is not on the Apple TV input (ie DVR input) then Apple TV goes to sleep and does not shut off the HDTV.

The reason I can't leave Apple TV "on" all the time (ie Sleep at 'never') is because I like the functionality of Apple TV turning my HDTV and sound system on and assigning it the proper input just by pushing any button on the ATV remote. That's awesome, can't lose that. About 10% of the time my "off" HDTV gets turned on I want to exclusively watch Apple TV and that's quite convenient.

My workaround for the past few months is fine, I just need my kids to be disciplined to turn the input on the receiver from Apple TV to DVR when they are done watching Apple TV. When they do, ATV goes to sleep after 30 minutes of activity, my HDTV is back on DVR input, and all is good the next time I hit power on the DVR and want to watch broadcast cable and not mess with the input selector.

Vizio M322i-B1 & ATV4 — both the hardware remote and the Apple TV Remote app turn the TV ON and OFF when I “long press” the home key then select sleep.

I'm still not fully understanding your issue. Perhaps your DVR and/or receiver are making things more complicated? Or the fact that you want to leave your TV on 24/7? In any case, I'm glad you've fashioned a workaround that sidesteps the issue for you.

I just got a new Sony TV and HDMI-CEC with the AppleTV 4... is a dream. It's working great for me. Makes things sooo much simpler. I'm very pleased.

I don't get why Vizio gives the on AND off capability to only some of its TVs, it's not like it costs Vizio any extra money to make it happen, it's just some code in the firmware...

I have a Vizio M43-C1 and my Apple TV 4 will power it on and control volume but will not power the TV off when I put the Apple TV to sleep. My PS4 does the same thing, powers on but not off.

For what it's worth, my Vizio TV received a firmware update today. Apple TV 4TH gen can now power on and power off the Visio. Previously, it only turned it on.

Model is M50-C1.

Works really well and now I only need/will use the Apple TV remote (or the app for iPhone and iPad). Otherwise, I'm running ota through the channels app with Netflix and Hulu. If only there was a prime video app! Only thing holding me back now.

My ATV4 seems to be able to turn on my TV when I wake it with the remote. But it doesn't turn off the TV when I put it to sleep. Is this the case with everyone else?

Can everyone post their TV make and model, and if your CEC Turns ON/OFF/ON AND OFF, so we can get a list going for other members on the forum?

The Apple TV 4 has completely broken my HDMI CEC setup.

I have a 2009 Panasonic TV and Panasonic Home Cinema system connected via Viera Link. So i would turn on TV, Home cinema would then turn on and select right input, and my TV volume would control the home cinema volume. Ace. Along comes Apple TV 4 and after a few days the 'link' breaks and i have to power everything off at the socket and relink. Fine for a few days then fails again.

Same. Turns on and off now after the Vizio firmware update! I hadn't noticed until updating my Apple TV to 10.0.1. Either way I'm happy it works properly now.

Vizio sent an OTA firmware update for my M-Series, it now turns off!

LOL, just stumbled across this thread. I thought I was crazy when I started noticing my ATV turning off my Vizio TV when I could swear it didn't used to do that!

Finally!!! My M70 recently showed a pop up for a firmware update, but I accidentally hit cancel. Was digging through all the menus but couldn't find any way to update it since. Any ideas??

edit: just went to check and my TV must have updated - it's now on 1.3.34 and CEC is working nicely!

SOLUTION: just direct your apple tv remote steering directly to tv/apple tv while switching on or off and you'll be fine.

We all have believed in apple tv remote working via wifi and CEC communication so much that nobody even tried this

but it helped - at least in my case (9 years old Philips with CEC called EasyLink).

Sony 4K Bravia, works on/off, ocassionaly bugs out and ignores the tv, a restart of the Atv will fix it

What? Are you somehow suggesting that the way you hold your remote changes the way it works?

The Jobs distortion field really is still active.. o_O
