Kinda was considering this since my display at home is kinda taking a dump. The lack of 120hz is what makes me consider otherwise. Is it ridiculous that I want one to pair with my base M1 Mini?

No. PS5 tops out at 4K anyways. There’s no way to connect ps5 to this ?
Does this have a fan?
Who is this for exactly?
I think it's just the best they could do at this price right now. You're right about the future though. We're at a moment where we're switching to mini-led, oled, promotion, etc. So in a few years it will feel outdated, whereas a monitor from a few years ago today still holds up quite well.I find the specs pretty underwhelming and not forward looking at all.
Given how infrequently Apple updates products like these, that’s not great
I'm guessing they will. It just didn't sell well, even after they updated it to expand support for additional Macs and iPads. Apple was about the only reseller. It will be interesting to see if LG pulls the plug on the UltraFine 5K like they did the 21.5" UltraFine 4K in the year or so before Apple killed the 21.5" iMac 4K in favor of the 24" iMac.
Not at all. That's essentially the replacement for the base 27" iMac.Is it ridiculous that I want one to pair with my base M1 Mini?
Also, Apple's devices are never about the specs. I mean look at the iPhone as a prime example - they never talk about the RAM and the iPhone always has as little RAM as possible and they run fine if not better than Android phones that boast the amount of RAM that they have...I think it's just the best they could do at this price right now. 27-inch Intel iMac is now discontinued as per MacRumors: https://www.macrumors.com/2022/03/08/apple-discontinues-27-inch-imac/I'm guessing they will. It just didn't sell well, even after they updated it to expand support for additional Macs and iPads. Apple was about the only reseller.

You can. Its listed in the tech specs. You’ll notice that he didn’t say you could connect that screen to the 24 inch M1 iMac.![]()

I think the 5k iMac was an anomalously insane value considering the quality display you were getting with the Mac computer. Makes much more sense to compare this display to other similar standalone displays in the industry. As for the price tag, it seems like you're getting the similar to a 5K iMac display with upgraded audio and webcam while shaving off an entire Mac computer for only $100 off what a base model 27" imac was.
You can get good quality monitor stands for £20 that'll take it no problem. Or get the VESA mount (at no extra cost) and buy an arm for £100 or so. You're not forced to buy Apple's gear if you don't want it.That's nuts.
Basically, this monitor starts at $1,999. Nobody buys a non-height adjustable monitor these days.
M1 Mac mini can take one larger XDR display, so I'm sure this one will be fine. You’ll notice that he didn’t say you could connect that screen to the 24 inch M1 iMac.![]()
People who until today were buying LG UltraFine 5Ks (at $1300) because they wanted native macOS support (even if buggy) and a display with twice the PPI of a QHD or 4K panel.

I think the 24" ship has sailed. I was searching for a high quality 4K 24" monitor too and you'll basically end up with the old LG UltraFine 24".Was hoping for a 24” display to replace my aging Apple Cinema Display or Dell U2415. Alas, the wait continues.
This is essentially the replacement for the 27" iMac. If you want a base, pair it with the base M1 mini. If you want to replace an iMac Pro, pair it with the Mac Studio. While it would have been nice if Apple had introduced this display 2 years ago, it still makes sense for them to release it now. Higher refresh rates, OLED, etc. mostly benefit gamers, which this display isn't intended for. This display feels out of date before it has even launched. A 60Hz, non-HDR, IPS LED, non-HDMI 2.1, edge-lit monitor for $1600? Yikes. And with how often Apple updates their displays, this monitor is not likely to age well.
Who is this for exactly? A video editor is going to want HDR and local dimming. Maybe a photographer? A casual user isn't spending $1600. Seems like it occupies this weird middle space between an everyday user and professional. Not sure there is a market in that space.
I would love to see the jungle of dongles that you will have to use to get this to work...it will make for an interesting video.OK how do I plug this into my existing 2014 Mac Mini or 2012 MBP?![]()
Now....who was it on ATP who recently purchased a used UltraFine 5K? I'm sure that person is regretting the decision right now...Considering that LG charged $1,300 for the UltraFine 5K, $1,600 for this isn't outrageous. The screen is a bit brighter, it offers a nano option, it's more aesthetically compatible with the Mac, and has a better camera and speakers. Most people who already have the LG display probably won't find a reason to switch, but this is a nice display for its intended purpose.
We'll see what PC workarounds come about. For the LG, the speakers work, but the camera is hit-or-miss. I'm able to use the abandonware ClickMontorDDC to adjust the brightness. Whether this works with the Apple Studio Display remains to be seen. I guess we'll find out when these start to ship.I would buy this in a second if it had a 2nd TB (or HDMI/DP) input and built in KVM. I can’t be the only person in 2022 who has a personal Mac and a work Windows laptop in a WFH setup. I figured this would never happen, but I dared to dream!
I’m guessing even with a third party KVM (if one even exists), the speakers would work but the webcam wouldn’t.
