The fact that a $5,000 display doesn't come with the stand is beyond absurd. Not that it was ever within my reach, at that price point, but damn.

Just a guess, but I would imagine they have some sort of market research that says that the majority of people in that market use the VESA mount, so instead of including the stand and making the monitor $6k they leave it off and charge add-ons for either the mount or the stand.

But for the market that this is for paying that much (or more) for a monitor is not as crazy as it is for those of us who aren't working in a market where this computer/monitor would be an option.

I've been hoping that I could sell my Thunderbolt Display and Dell 27" 4K display to maybe pay for 2/3 of whatever new $999 display apple releases. I figure worst case, it's $1299.
HOLY **** WHAT THE ****
I get that it's for pros. The thing is, I AM a pro. Pro photographer and web designer both. For a decent size agency as well as freelance. And this is so far out of our reach it's hilarious. I was simply hoping for an updated 4K monitor that would serve as a thunderbolt 3 hub. Take the Thunderbolt display. Make it 4k. Switch all thunder bolt ports to thunder bolt 3 except for one or 2 for legacy use. The end.

It's the first of its kind and is meant for extremely hardcore workflows (movie studios, design shops, etc). There are so many other options in the $1000 range already. Either you need these kinds of specs or you don't, so I don't think the pricing is too insane considering the intended market.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I was even willing to part with two thousand of my hard-earned dollars but this is clearly not a product intended for folks like us.

Amazing display but Apple is really out of their minds pricewise.
I am still using my 30" ACD. I bought two for $3k back when they launched. Now I would have to spend $10k. What a joke and a shame. They won't sell many. Pro's are not that stupid.

Ok, when they said „Pro Display“ they really meant PRO. I want it but could never justify it. Maybe there‘ll be a 6K iMac at some point in the future with lesser specs.

typical :apple: spend 5k on a monitor and then will need to drop another 1k for the stand.........

Nice. Really is. But it’s extreme pro. I’d like regular pro or semi pro. Both this and Mac Pro. But I suppose that’s not going to happen. iMac pro is probably my limit.

Pros are very
pretentious, so they will pay for the top notch, and pros are not price sensitive
Disagreed. I work on many studios in LA and NY. A lot of them use regular iMacs and while I see Mac Pro's they are usually the base model with additional RAM. Companies are wise in it comes to budgets. Buying a base model MP and display will set you back more than $10k That's a lot of dough.
Apple will sell but will lose a lot of sales due the extreme price. They should have and entry level MP and display at $5k max.

Regular iMacs are not at pro degree...projects that needs for hollywood and projections and editing that need to be done in SECONDS, musician, sound editors that makes LIVE edits, so they need system to edit in milliseconds....THOSE ARE PROS...not imacs users...imacs users pros? Is like a pro driver, drives an hyundai

When the 30" ACD launched it cost $3299. That was 2004. In today's money that is roughly $4500.

if you expected anything less than $2500 for that display you are delusional.

I figured $2500-3000 minimum
