It's the first of its kind and is meant for extremely hardcore workflows (movie studios, design shops, etc). There are so many other options in the $1000 range already. Either you need these kinds of specs or you don't, so I don't think the pricing is too insane considering the intended market.
with 6k resolution and those specs?

please provide a few models/links

Mac Pro + monitor + stand + accessories (cables and dongles) = price of Toyota Camry ;)

Regular iMacs are not at pro degree...projects that needs for hollywood and projections and editing that need to be done in SECONDS, musician, sound editors that makes LIVE edits, so they need system to edit in milliseconds....THOSE ARE PROS...not imacs users...imacs users pros? Is like a pro driver, drives an hyundai
Design are done in regular iMacs and rendering in a lot of PC's maxed out. Yes also MPs. I work in motion graphics for more than 20 years. Like I said companies are budget conscious. They will not dump money on too overpriced machines despite the amazing specs they carry.

I wasn’t surprised at the price. If I recall correctly the first cinema displays were 350p and required special video cards. The Dell 8k monitor from last year was 4 grand and that didn’t include half the features of this. But when they started comparing it to the 43k reference monitor I knew it was going to be insanely expensive.

I've been hoping that I could sell my Thunderbolt Display and Dell 27" 4K display to maybe pay for 2/3 of whatever new $999 display apple releases. I figure worst case, it's $1299.
HOLY **** WHAT THE ****
I get that it's for pros. The thing is, I AM a pro. Pro photographer and web designer both. For a decent size agency as well as freelance. And this is so far out of our reach it's hilarious. I was simply hoping for an updated 4K monitor that would serve as a thunderbolt 3 hub. Take the Thunderbolt display. Make it 4k. Switch all thunder bolt ports to thunder bolt 3 except for one or 2 for legacy use. The end.
If you were expecting something in the range of $1300 you haven’t looked into pro monitors with these sort of specifications.

Clearly a monitor designed for a specific subset of professionals. And like others said, there will be buyers in that demographic.

The reference was for folks hoping this monitor would cost $1000. There are other options at that price point, either 4K or 5K. There is no way anyone is getting 6K at that price point when this is the only one that exists and it's coming from Apple. Add in all the other bells and whistles it has and $5000 is not utterly ridiculous.

The price is insane. Only professional organizations and millionaires can afford this. The monitor+stand costs more than a base level imac pro! I'm glad I went ahead and bought my imac pro instead of waiting for the mac pro because i rightly guessed it would be an exorbitant price.

gotcha. misunderstood your comment I guess. but yeah, there was no way this thing was gonna be less than $2500+

I’m an iPad Pro. A MacBook Pro. Will probably be an iMac pro someday. But Ill never be a Mac Pro. My dreams are crushed. Lol

$1000 for a stand that is far too high, even at the lowest setting. The adjustment is as over-engineered as the new Mac Pro, but it doesn't offer much adjustment.

Just shows how good and pro you falsely think to be. There is always a level up.

It might be cheaper to hire an intern to hold your pro display!
Most underrated post of the day :D:D:D:D

No seriously though...the sad part is that every good thing they presented (and I think everything was pretty nice) will be overlooked just because someone at Apple had a brain fart and thought this was a good idea. The press will be only talking about this stupidity.
I bet they will change the pricing until fall. I can see the **** storm incoming

I think maybe I was wanting a slightly-less pro display with a slightly less insane price tag. Never mind.
So many people in the creative industries are freelancers and Apple just lots most of them with their ridiculous prices.

I agree that $1000 for the stand is ridiculous but I love how everyone here complains that Apple is abandoning the pro market but when they finally make something for a niche pro market and price it accordingly everyone complains that it doesn’t have mass market appeal.
