I was hoping for a wide display aimed at developers to replace my two non-Apple monitors without FaceTime camera, but I simply can’t defend this price ... and I honestly don’t need the picture quality for my work. And does it even have FaceTime camera? They didn’t say.

I agree that $1000 for the stand is ridiculous but I love how everyone here complains that Apple is abandoning the pro market but when they finally make something for a niche pro market and price it accordingly everyone complains that it doesn’t have mass market appeal.

I have no problem with Pro gear coming out, that’s great news. I just expect as much attention to THE REST OF US.

I've been hoping that I could sell my Thunderbolt Display and Dell 27" 4K display to maybe pay for 2/3 of whatever new $999 display apple releases. I figure worst case, it's $1299.
HOLY **** WHAT THE ****
I get that it's for pros. The thing is, I AM a pro. Pro photographer and web designer both. For a decent size agency as well as freelance. And this is so far out of our reach it's hilarious. I was simply hoping for an updated 4K monitor that would serve as a thunderbolt 3 hub. Take the Thunderbolt display. Make it 4k. Switch all thunder bolt ports to thunder bolt 3 except for one or 2 for legacy use. The end.

Why not just buy an entry level 2014 5k iMac and use it in Target Display Mode?

The display pricing is high but not out of this world for pros who this is targeting. It's simple... if you can't afford it then you don't need it. This is a 10 year investment.

This being priced same as iMac Pro makes the decision pretty simple for me even if iMac Pro is legacy hardware now.

I was ready for $1999. Potentially I may have considered at $2499 given the specs. But this is so far out that now I don't need to consider at all.

Still looking for a viable option for the 27" Cinema LED display which works so nice with 2018 MBP (including volume and brightness adjustments).

999$ stand is magnetic:

"Effortlessly attaches and detaches for quick and easy transportation. The puck-shaped magnetic connector is designed to attach to the back of the display and locks the Pro Stand and the display together. To detach, simply unlock the slider and tilt the display far back to release the magnets, then lift the display off the Pro Stand."

https://www.apple.com/pro-display-xdr/specs/

(Doesn't sound like a full magnetic mount but maybe more like a magnetic "guide", but still...)

It's amazing they literally priced out all the pro's except for those that work in Hollywood Studios with massive budgets.

Sadly, that's probably who Apple only cares about targeting. Well, maybe the odd large game developer too. Every other pro will likely stick with an iMac and add an external eGPU.

$1000 for a stand that is far too high, even at the lowest setting. The adjustment is as over-engineered as the new Mac Pro, but it doesn't offer much adjustment.
Yeah, stand is some expensive kit. I can see how some might appreciate the engineering. But can use a VESA stand of your choice, or other VESA mounting. Not a big deal. Save money there. Apple probably looked into the demographic and decided it made sense to separate the items given the demographic to reduce the cost of the standalone monitor.

Exactly. Like the Mac Pro, it’s a product for corporate/enterprise/professionals. The revenue they generate from these products makes their purchase a no-brainer.

Reference modes, 1,000 nits, rotatable to portrait, antireflective coating, matte display option... nice.

I love the idea of a laser etched matte display, but like the price for the stand, Apple glossed over the price increase...another $1000. Ouch!

Not even close. It is more monitor than most professionals need, but a good portion of the professionals who do work that justifies these interests can readily afford and justify the associated costs. Just as is the case with expensive software.

I’m surprised they didn’t offer something more in the mid range, though. More like what the LG monitors ought to have been when they were released.

$4999 and no OLED? What nonsense is this?
Does anyone mass manufacture 6K OLED panels? Can you point us to a comparable product?

No, your 4K 55” TV OLED is not the same thing, not at all. The pixel density is very low for starters.

Again, the bitching is ridiculous. What exactly did you expect? 6K Retina display for $799?

This thing is a niche product for “pros” and for someone working at Pixar or whatever the price is probably somewhat irrelevant.
