Apple was CLEARLY behind a mis/dis information campaign about what this new device would look like. They are still the master.

The other possibility is that leaks were correct but the radical redesign was cancelled due to production issues.

The fact that we are getting the most boring update ever AND it is not ready for ordering/shipment within a few day of the announcement is strange. There should be no production challenge for Apple with what was announced. So the fact that it isn’t ready to ship smells a bit like a last minute move to the backup plan.

^^ This.

I was about to say exactly the same. It smacks to me that they wanted to do something radical, then they realised either it was poorly received from the leaks or that there would be serious production issues, so went to plan B. I felt throughout the announcement that they were trying to flesh it out as there really wasn't anything new - especially as they have been working on it for a year.

So now 'later this fall' = we are retooling all our production centres for the slight changes and will be delayed IMO by 4-6 weeks.

I have a SSGS5 and really want to go back to silver SS. I am tempted with this for a few reasons, the main one being that for my birthday (lol which every year falls around this time :) ) my lovely daughter gave me £800 apple vouchers. I have an iPhone 12 pro, new MacBook air and a nice mac mini, so it seems an AW7 SS it is :). It also seems my dad will benefit as he is still on my old S2SS so will get a nice upgrade with my S5.

Its a clear upgrade from anyone with a series 3 and under - but from series 4 onwards … 🤔

And I can’t believe that they’re still selling Series 3. From 2017.

Crazy thought I had randomly. What if the redesign is coming in a "Apple Watch Pro"(name pending) model with extra sensors on the back possibly? Also with a new processor since the S7 has the same CPU as the S6? Then it explains why there were leaks about that new design and why we didn't see it yesterday. Coupled with leaks about the AirPods possibly having health features, it could be unveiled alongside those.

Like I said, a crazy thought. Likely wrong. But just throwing it out there!

I feel like I have to make this clear: There's absolutely nothing wrong with a Series 3 watch in 2021. It performs well, it has all the right fitness metrics including sleep, it is water proof, does apple pay, looks good, has equal or as good battery life to the most recent models (it was thicker and had a larger battery after all), runs and installs all the latest OS updates like a champ. Does it have bigger bezels? Sure. A smaller screen? Of course. Does it perform every task you'd possibly want of a smart watch except for a few niche later additions? Absolutely.

It's really weird that people discount it. Extremely few people can tell by a glance if you have a s3 or later model by just glancing at your wrist unless they are looking for an always on display. It's a credible low budget option, and yes I would absolutely tell anyone to get an SE over it, but still – if it's not for you it's not for you.

TBF so did literally anybody else including third party accessory makers. Something weird has happened here.
But he was the first to claim this, is what I was getting at. That’s his whole shtick is making these exclusive renderings being the first to show something.

I seem to recall installing updates on the series 3 being a problem precisely because of the limited storage it shipped with. Not sure if this has been remedied with subsequent models.

This is a contingency model. They had the new design lined up, but due to production issues, had to revert back to this model. Bummed as I was ready to buy a cellular model, but I am skipping this year as my series 5 is just fine.

My 5 is still chugging along, skipped the 6 last year due to the blue color being the only thing that excited me about it.

I don’t know what the release date is for the 7 but I might be in position to get one after I lock down my iPhone 13 Pro.

Edit: Now that I think about it, might as well make the jump to the Pro Max! Sierra Blue 256GB sounds about right :D

Nah. Apple know how to milk the same design till they can’t.

for those that have the series 6 and are underwhelmed about the series 7

I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade nor should you upgrade every year

Speaking for myself coming from a Series 4 with a degraded battery that barely last 1.5 days…. It’s worth the upgrade and I thinking about getting a Titanium this time around

but best believe…. I’m not upgrading again until the series 10/11
If your watch lasts 1.5 days on a charge KEEP IT. You have a gem of a watch. 😆

I wouldn't say "clear". AW3 is still a current product. I've had my cellular version since it was first released. If it broke today I'd go for the 7, but there is nothing offered in the 7 that makes me want to get it over what I have now.

The current os has some issues with non cellular models, less onboard storage, supposedly the new iOS addresses that issue. Apple had two have addressed that. No way would they continue the AW3 with those problems.

Have the series 6. 1.5 days you say? Heck I need to upgrade to your watch.

Interesting… my series 4 used to last me about 1.75-2 days when new

I haven’t read the watch forum in a min…. Y'all watches really not lasting a day?

for the record… my watch is a cellular model without the cellular being activated… wonder if cellulars have bigger battery’s vs WiFi models 🤔

Probably next year since Apple loves to milk the products before design changes (don’t blame them). When leaks start to surface it is most likely at least one year away.
Totally agree, not saying that Prosser didn't get some legit info, just the timing was off. Similar to the rumors of connecting to a satellite, seems like another year off.

The battery might be one reason i would consider upgrading from my series 4. The battery health is down to 83%. But if I charge it to 100% before i hit the sack, it will last all night, through the entire day and will be around 45% when i recharge it again that night. I could make it through the second night but would have to charge it at sone point at work. But after typing this I really can live with the battery life for now.

That is crazy. My series 6 was pretty much dead every afternoon. I would charge it after work and wear it all night and all day. GPS only model too.
Unfortunately I sold my S6 before the keynote in anticipation of the S7 and now I’m screwed 😅

It has been remedied by subsequent OS updates. watchOS updates are much smaller now. Plus that was only for the non-cellular model.

Given how bad my battery life is on my series 6 I think I will likely upgrade just to see if it’s better with a new model. Bigger screen helps as well.

I will likely go for the nike addition as was going to get SS if there was a space black version but guess not.

S4 isn’t always on. Think it comes down to that. I’m lucky to get end of day with series 6 without it going dead. Always on is worth it though for me.

S7 is basically s6 with a 20% bigger screen. That doesn’t bode well for better battery life. Combine this with no new features or speed.

I’d still only recommend upgrading from s3 or below. As always depends on deal you can get as previous version can get a nice discount at times (ss versions).

I’m hesitant for the reason you point out. I’m starting to think that I’ll get a series 7 and see how the battery life is over 14 days. If it’s worse by even a little bit than my series 5, I’ll be returning it. My 5 barely makes it through a day with my normal use.
