The only reason to update from my 2018 is for the AI stuff -- if it's good -- later this fall. I do not have an M1. But for now, my M4 I am trialling, hoping for a big announcement today, will probably be headed back to Apple.

Here's the thing – wouldn't it be fun to use that Sequoia-Continuity-Screenthingamadub with the iPhone, only with iPad and Mac. Even if the Mac is not nearby, but online, running at home, while you're somewhere else with the iPad. It's not the same as running it locally (Speed, screen resolution, the whole Jumpdesktop thing)... but if it worked seamlessly, it would be someeeeething at least. Just let me tap into my Mac from afar without hassle (also, please: from Mac to Mac, just as we were able to do 20 years ago ;-))

So they debut the M4 chip with the iPad Pro and then make no improvements to features like Stage Manager? I'm not demanding MacOS on the iPad but good god Apple make it more functional for those of us who want to use the full power of the chips in these devices.
I don’t know what the M4 has to do with Stage Manager. I think things like math notes are a much better representation of “using the full power of the chip”.

Granted I didn’t buy a new IPP based on what potential software there could be but this showed me how serious Apple is about iPadOS and that’s not at all. I’m out and the IPP is going back.

I wonder if this is paving the way for those features… 🤔

I’m gutted! Still the same crap files app!
I just hope they've worked out the stability issues with external devices. When I dump raws from my shoot to my Pro for quick proofing from an SSD I regularly have to redo it 3 or more times because it stalls out and dismounts the drive after a couple gigs. It's annoying as all hell and it's not the drive because I've experienced it on thumb drives and expensive Nvme drives with thunderbolt.

iPadOS 17 - Weather App, iPadOS 18 - Calculator App. Wow Apple really pushing the boat out!

Still no StandBy, CarPlay, Apple Watch Integration and all the other stuff it doesn’t have parity with in iOS. Plus the Files app and attached storage management is still atrocious.

I picked up the new iPad Air this morning. Chose it over the Pro because the Pro requires a new magic keyboard and the one I have works just fine. After watching the event, I'm really glad I didn't splurge on the M4.

a new major update should not be made cool by a calculator. that’s like an x.x.1 update.

sorry to anyone who got an m4 thinking this would be the time that an ipad became more of a powerhouse
