Oh FFS apple, just make a touchscreen MBP and be done away with these nonsense slideover, faux-multitasking. This is what users need and not what apple wants. iPads are meant for media consumption. Real work is done on a real computer.

My grandma is having trouble with these iterations of ipad features now it's so complicatedly stupid it's like fitting a square peg in a round hole. Just update your MacOS for touch and you will have a complete package (coughcoughSurfaceBookcoughcough).

Have you used a touchscreen laptop? They’re ****

THANK YOU!!! About f***ing time! With these changes the iPad is one step closer to truly replace a computer.

Now hoping for mouse support and the possibility for apps to have access outside of their sandbox.

Apple allowing us out of the sandbox? Hmm... hope you’re not holding your breath. I can’t see that happening.

Why in the world would they separate the naming from regular iOS. Like iPhone hardware, so fragmented.

I support the features,

However they need a “Gesture” tab in Settings.app, to enable/disable, show all the gestures.
Wow. People will whine about literally anything.

How does Apple naming their OS negatively effect you even one iota?
Didn’t think so.

That’s what I’m asking...

Mouse support in iPad is real. In accessibility.

Also full keyboard control for the entire UI (opposite of Voice Control.)

Huge fail until you add Mouse support.

Seriously you could NOT have had a better demonstration on why you NEED mouse support from that guy on stage trying to select text multiple times and failing. Standing no less, hunched over with two hands and still failing to properly select the text on the first tries. We ALL know how this is. I cringe inside when I need to use my fingers to select text on my iPhone or iPad. It is a horrible experience.

Now imagine if he had been sitting, with a 12inch iPad and its type cover. With a small BT mouse, easily selecting the text. He would have gotten a standing ovation. Heck Microsoft could have come up on stage and showed off Microsoft Word with mouse support. A lot of people would have taken notice and thought..."for what I do, I can now replace my computer".

Nope. They are looking this and thinking, ok some improvements but there is no way I am remembering all of those swipes and gestures to what I can do easily with a mouse on a computer. Too make matters worse they are probably thinking...."I still need a computer and I am NOT paying these crazy Mac prices" and another Windows PC sale is made.

Mouse support?
I believe what you, and everyone who mentions “mouse support” really means is “remote cursor support”. This would apply not only to an external mouse, but also open up the possibility of some kind of trackpad (or other) controller built into and iPad external keyboard.

A mouse might be ok at home. But having to carry a mouse in my messenger bag everywhere would be a drag.

Mouse support?
Yes it is available...

Loving IpadOS...can’t wait to try the public beta on one of my iPads.

Good job there is mouse support then....

Was thinking the same... I recently picked up a Surface Go to replace my 12-inch iPad with touch screen issues. My Surface as a tablet is "okay" but I only use it in that mode for casual surfing and reading books; I like that it quickly becomes a full desktop operating system where I can code, etc. It cost less than the iPad it replaces.

Just my personal opinion but I find my SP highly superior as a tablet simply due to the kickstand. There are other things as well which make is superior FOR ME as a tablet, but for use as a tablet you just cannot beat the kickstand. Once again just my opinion and only for my own use, I don't want to speak for anyone else and the ipad is a good tablet as well for those who prefer it.

TVOS received multi-user, hopefully iPadOS in 2020.
Or a new iPad with a A13 chip.

I told my wife that if multi user support ever requires a new iPad, even if it’s released 1 week after we bought our iPad, we would upgrade. Surprisingly she agreed lol!

External drive support
Access files on a USB drive, SD card, or hard drive.

FINALLY!!!!

The funny thing is, most people don't care anymore. My files have been in the cloud for two years now. I can't remember the last time I used USB storage.

I did care at one time, but not so much now.

It DOES have mouse support

I wonder if we’ll be able to move our photos from the iPad to the external HD? Right now I connect my iPad/iPhone to my MacBook and drag the photos to my external HD. If I could just move them via a connected HD, that would be an easier on the go workflow for me.

I laughed at the kickstand when the Surface's originally debuted. Having now used it, I absolutely love it. It's a simple addition that works incredibly well.
