How the heck has Apple not figured out always on display for iPhones yet? Mind boggling.
I’m sure it’s not an issue of figuring out how to make the display always-on, especially with the new ProMotion variable refresh rate screen. It’s more an issue of the value of making it always-on, which not only uses energy, but then also requires some pixel shifting to minimize burn-in, which also takes energy. The fact that all you need to do to see notifications and time / date is to touch the screen or raise it to wake it further disincentivizes the need for always-on.

I know with my Apple Watch (series 5), although the screen can be always-on, and its refresh rate can drop to as low as 1Hz, it still burns through significant battery life when activated. I haven’t used always-on for more than 18 months, given the 30-34 hours of battery I can get out of it when always-on is turned off vs the 20-24 hours I get when it’s set to always be on. And I’m not missing anything with the Watch, as the screen will activate when I rotate or raise my wrist, which isn’t asking much for the added hours of usage.

iphones have better less deprecation than other brands. That is one area you don't really have to worry about.
Of course everyone knows iPhone's hold their value better than Android phones, what I am saying is there is depreciation to factor in. Do the math, see what you could get this year for a 1 year old iPhone vs a 2 year old model. Factor it in. Waiting two years to upgrade has not been a huge saver for me whenever I've factored in what I can get in terms of value for a 2 year old device vs 1 year old. But to each their own :)

Are you guys really disappointed? They just did a big super cycle update last year. Apple NEVER rolls big features in all at once after a big refresh. They re tool thr design and then do small upgrades until the design is retooled. This has always been the case after a big re design. Those that are disappointed must not be following the course of updates throughout history.

Wish there was a way to record video directly to an external source. That would make it a true pro device in my opinion.

Apple today announced the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max at its "California Streaming" event, featuring brighter Super Retina XDR displays with ProMotion, improved rear cameras, a more powerful variant of the A15 Bionic chip, up to 1TB of storage, a new Sierra Blue color option, and more.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max come in the same 6.1 and 6.7-inch display sizes as the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The new devices feature a 20 percent smaller notch for more display area, a brighter Super Retina XDR display, and ProMotion for refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz.

The stainless steel frame has a custom finish that is resistant to abrasion and corrosion. There is also a new Sierra Blue color option, along with Graphite, Gold, and Silver.

Both devices sport the A15 Bionic chip with a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU for a significant performance improvement. This variant of the A15 chip contains one extra GPU core than the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13's A15 chip.

Due to the efficiency improvements of the A15 Bionic chip and larger batteries, the iPhone 13 Pro's battery life lasts 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max lasts 2.5 hours than iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The rear array contains new 77mm Telephoto, Ultra Wide, and Wide lenses with sensor-shift stabilization for reduced camera shake. The iPhone 13 Pro features a 6x optical zoom range thanks to a new 3x Telephoto camera. The Ultra Wide camera also now features autofocus and offers a new macrophotography mode that can take close-ups up to 2cm away from an object.

A new "Cinematic Mode" is able to blur the background of video in real-time, track objects and people, and rack focus. Night Mode is also now available on all of the rear cameras.

Photographic Styles bring individual preferences to local photo edits in real-time. Styles work across scenes and subject types and users do not need to define it every time they shoot. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max can shoot also video in ProRes up to 4K at 30fps for high color fidelity and efficient encoding.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max can connect to more 5G bands using custom antennas and radio components. Both devices also feature up to 1TB of storage, the most ever offered in an iPhone.

The iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max starts at $1,099. iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max pre-orders open on Friday 17 September, with devices first arriving to customers on Friday, 24 September.

I need real data on exactly how the macro mode works. I do under water photography and often need to fill the frame with small things, but also can’t always just shove camera on top of a live thing. Suite trigger weird warped mode like on the Samsung’s would be useless for me.

Apple announces the heaviest & thickest iPhone ever! Makes your pants fall off!
iPhone 13 Pro 204 grams
iPhone 12 Pro 189 grams

iPhone 13 Pro Max 240 grams
iPhone 12 Pro Max 228 grams

What are the specs on the front selfie camera?
I don't see any info on it on the apple site.

Given the horrible degradation of some 12PMx batteries within a year, that would be a given.

9 months, 127 cycle and battery health is at 89%, went from an all day battery life to needing low power mode with literally the same usage pattern. I’m just disappointed. :(

Yep. Gimped pro max now. Bigger phone with only power and features of a smaller phone.

That's what the Max always was though. For the slight bump in price people will still opt for bigger screen, if they can handle it. Too big for most of us.

If I preorder on Friday for in-store pickup, but I can't get to the Apple store until the Monday after release, will my phone still be waiting there for me?

Coming from a iPhone X I really wanted a pacific blue iPhone 13. Either sticking with silver or going with a (hopefully lower priced 12).

This. Honestly, I consider this the better update compared to the 12 update last year. The incremental updates to stuff I'll actually appreciate (larger battery, brighter screen, better 5G modem, etc.) is way better than just a design overhaul for me.

Being someone who really enjoys taking videos, the cinematic mode and pro-res 4k/30fps is definitely what I was looking for. Might get the 1 TB too as I think I will be recording a lot of videos for the next couple of years. But honestly if video wasnt my only reason to upgrade, I would have not. Who honestly cares about the 120hz display on a 6.1: screen apart from overhyping techtubers.
