If Apple had any courage, they'd admit Lightning is a mistake and switch to USB-C. If they're going to remove the headphone jack, at least use a different standard connector.
Lightning itself was never a mistake. You forget that it came out years before USB-C. But yes, they should've just switched to USB-C this year. Now that is the future of audio

Last year I paid £619 for a 64gb 6s, but this year it'd be £699 for a 128gb 7 since 32gb isn't enough. Definitely no chance of me upgrading this year then! Additionally, all the Apple accessories have gone up in price here in the UK.

Piano Black gross iPhone 7 for me! I like the + features but it will be a little too big for me to carry around all year long! I will be using it in the gym and outside too, so that size I need. Wish Apple would make the equivalent + in a 4.7" size and charge $500 more then the + size. I buy it for sure! I know a lot others that would too! The 1080p is what I really want in the 4.7" model!

Why? Why did it have to happen sometime? There's literally not a better solution available.
Ymmv I suppose but I don't use a 3.5mm jack on my phone and haven't for quite some time.. and I connect daily to things that could be done via miniphone cable.
I don't know.. I personally think wireless connections are better and advantageous over tethering.. so I'd disagree with your 'literally' remark.

Agreed... in less than a year you'll wonder why it took so long. I think it's very logical and good to see Apple make this change. Should be better all around.
Not really. It's striking when @ prev. times you could see the logic behind the decision even if you were annoyed by it. But this time, there is no logic. It wasn't needed for waterproofing and the mechanical button wasn't really taking up as much space as adding a freaking Taptic Engine (which, btw, is the only component to take up the jack's space, and Lightning is not a better audio service than 3.5. And BT? BT is a joke. Airpods are using AirPlay which uses BT to connect and Wifi to transmit data, but current BT headphones? A joke

I'm amazed at how many people don't like and/or don't get wireless earphones. I wanted wireless earphones years ago and bought the Beats wireless ones for me and my gf last year. They're awesome and have great reviews and audio quality. And to think these will be included with every box for free.

You just can't please some people... The fact they unveiled AirPods make up for it.
At $159...which is the exact reason BT headphones haven't picked up yet, aside from quality.

Of course it's courageous. How do you know it's not? Are you experts?!

Taking away something that many people use is simply courageous. It may not be the right decision but it's courageous and taking a gamble.
Taking away something that many people use for a better replacement is courageous. For a worse replacement is arrogant. Lightning is not the future

Since when did courage equate "doing something I say they ought to do"?

Logical to me. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why Apple included a lightening to standard USB power cable and did not move forward with a USB-C power adapter. So when ever outdated Mac gets updated in October...well, you won't even be able to plug in and sync without buying a different cable. Lame.

why 64gb had to disappear?
Importing 32gb and dropping 64 gb storage modules is likely cheaper for Apple, especially when done so in bulk. Notice how 32 and 128 gb is now standardised across the board for iOS devices?

Plus, the people for whom 32 gb doesn't suffice will opt for the 128 gb model.

Except there wasn't a price increase? It's the same price as the 6/6s

The Samsung phones are water proof and still have the headphone jack, so this argument is mute. The rest I can understand.
Basically I cannot say that I was impressed.
I was impressed by the prices though. The iPhone 7 Plus with 256GB costs 1119 Euro here in Germany..
Apple increased the price and delivered the same design (with refinements), but improved some important features on the phone, like its cameras and the stereo sound speakers.
HTC users (I know there are not a lot of them out there), would tell you something about BoomSound...
I think I will pass Apple. I prefer my HTC 10 with Android. iOS 10 is also an issue here. It is great for normal consumers, but lacks the power of customization Android offers.

The iPhone 7 is certainly a great product, but its price is really not justified.
Apple didn't increase the price in the US. Any price increases abroad are due to the **** happening in Europe.
As for iOS vs Android, that's a personal choice. However, it's irrational to expect iOS to become Android - they're focused on pretty different things.

Oh Mr. Ive

The jet black looks awful - looks like a plasticy 3GS. I guess I'm in the minority, but I'll be getting the silver or gold, if for no other reason I can never find my current black phone when I'm looking for it at home.

the only additional hardware to occupy that space was the ridiculous Taptic Engine that really is only there for the home button

And the stereo speaker. And a larger battery.

Lightning is not superior audio technology.

With an adapter, Lightning can do everything a 3- or 4-conductor analog jack can do. In addition to this, it can power headphone circuitry for features such as noise cancellation, custom DACs, audio shaping, and anything else anyone dreams up in the future. It also supports lossless digital audio. It supports multi-channel surround sound, up to 5.1 channels.

If you don't want any of that, fine. If you think those are rare use cases, I agree. If you think it's a bad trade-off, okay. But to say it's not superior technology? It clearly is.

So even if you pick "pay in full," and it says "unlocked," it's not technically unlocked b/c you had to choose a carrier?
It is unlocked, but you choose a starter carrier. You're not locked to that carrier. Unlocked doesn't mean SIM-free

"Wireless charging is the future" hold on, let me plug in my charging pad.

Same concept, so what's you point?
I used to think that way, if you have ever been able to use wireless charging, you would know how much more convenient it really is. Especially at the office for example, I simply set my phone down and it starts charging.

I am the IT manager here, so I often need to take my phone with me to other people's desk, so plugging it in and unplugging it all the time is far less convenient and yes I chew through the battery like you wouldn't believe.

I love the thought of you waiting for the dual sim announcement every year for 9 years and still being surprised they haven't announced it yet

How did you arrive at that conslusion that I am waiting for 9 years ?

My primary phone is not iPhone from Feb 2015. I skipped 6s, a will skip 7 and most probably next itteration.
Quite a few people switched to other brands becouse Apple just ignores this - fact.

But USB-C is going to be the standard for all new phones going forward, aside from the iPhones and USB-C can handle all of these things and more as well, so why not move to USB-C and eliminate proprietary connections?

No... As much as Shiller is getting ridiculed for using the word "courage," he's actually using it correctly. Apple is taking a stand by removing the antiquated headphone jack, which for some will be very unpopular. There are huge potential adverse consequences to Apple making that decision, i.e. declining sales and company value. There's nothing worse for a company.

I honestly assumed you were trying to use "courage" in the same manner when you said, "... I at least have the "courage" to complain when I feel I'm being taken advantage of." If you really didn't mean courage, why not choose an appropriate word?
Courage? I still remember Phil running off the stage like a frightened little girl (no offense to frightened little girls, everywhere) after the announcement of emasculating the Mac Mini, a couple of years back.

Courage shouldn't even be in this discussion.

Is Apple going to field a team of "iSeals" who, when they encounter a foe, shout out, "Fear us! For we have vanquished the 3.5mm headphone Jack, and we shall lay waste to all who oppose us!".

It's just marketing seeing if they can pry another $150 out of your pocket.

Make that "antiquated, yet still offering better sound quality than it's replacement, headphone jack".
