Again, no Dual SIM option....I will maybe check out iPhone 7s/8 next year.
There is huge market for Dual SIM phones which Apple just ignores.
I love the thought of you waiting for the dual sim announcement every year for 9 years and still being surprised they haven't announced it yet

That's not huge. It's tiny actually, because you're talking about connecting your head to a wall for extended periods of time. How often do you think people will really want to do this?

You're buying an expensive mobile device (with the best battery life yet for an iPhone) but, oh no, you don't want to spend a few bucks on wireless headphones to avoid routinely connecting your head to a wall???

Also, if that's really what you want to do, you'll be able to buy a pass-through adapter that will allow you to charge and listen to wired headphones at the same time.

This has to be the worst argument for keeping the old headphone jack.

Um, I think it's more common that you seem to believe.

Quite a few people use their iPhones as their primary audio devices, and yes, *gasp* want to use them in bed while they're charging, or in an airport, while charging, or in an airplane, while charging...

Over-night charging and listening to audiobooks or music while falling asleep is actually a big use case just based on a few initial conversations I've had since the keynote... (customers calling with 'What's the Apple news?' questions)

I guess they could all buy $160 wireless headphones to allow their $600 iPhones to still be capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time... Or, hope some 3rd party offers an affordable adaptor that includes both the aux jack and lightening pass-through, that they'll likely need to buy two of...

Or, maybe they can charge their phones with courage?

Shrug.

Those in the UK may remember Yes Prime Minister; whenever Sir Humphrey wanted to convince Hacker that something was a terrible idea, he would tell him it would be a "courageous decision"

So what you're saying is we ought to just abandon the technology altogether
Please don't put words in my mouth. Forcing a with technology upon the consumer before it is ready when better performing alternatives exist is not innovation.

The iPhone 6 had full support for audio via Bluetooth, Lightning and 3.5mm. Removing the 3.5mm jack does not serve to benefit anybody other than Apple.

... If this is the first year not buying an iPhone, then that kinda means you bought all of the S models which were also minor updates. The speed of the A10, the camera, the improved Taptic engine, and the Stereo speakers are enough for me to love this phone all over again.

I think it's more a case of Apple breaking the new design every two years routine that has irked some than the lack of substantial internal upgrades.

The benefits are improved water resistance, freeing up space for other hardware, and pushing people toward superior audio technology. You might not personally care for any of these benefits, but nevertheless they are benefits.

If Apple can make a speaker water resistant to 50 meters, I think they could find a way to splash-proof an aux jack. If only they had the courage to do so?

I decided for the Jet Black. I decided by going to the Speck site and viewing the cases there. That made the decision for me.

Speck with their IMPACTIUM™ SHOCK BARRIER  for $40?

I got one of these, just in case I decide to go 7 Plus. $10. Super thin. You aren't going to get real protection unless you go Otterbox, if real protection from drops, etc., is what you're going for. I'm looking to keep my iPhone new looking is all.

Yup, I've been using Speck for a while. Also use Otterbox when I'm going riding or I'm in the stable or in the field. But for my every day, I use Speck or sometimes even Sonix.
I was looking at the Ringke too. May end up getting one.

I wasn't able to see the keynote, did I miss anything? ;)

Finally a new Mac Pro after 3 years?

Yup, the reason is digital didn't exist when they created the 1/8" audio jack.

All high end audio equipment is digital, and outputs to a 1/4" or 1/8" jack. ALL audio, when delivered to the ears is analog. The only thing removing the 3.5mm jack does is move the DAC somewhere else.

The adapter is massive and will no doubt not fit in your pocket unless sticking out the top. This is a backward move despite all the hype and fan boy clapping

Because the headphone wire doesn't already come sticking out of your pocket?

I knew right away something was off with that picture of the guy with the green sunglasses. Blurry background but the reflected clouds in the glasses were super sharp...

I remember the first generation iPhone where you couldn't fit normal headphones in it. Using an adapter was a real pain and it showed me how bad the sound from the iPhone actually was. I used the adapter maybe twice before getting some earphones specifically made to fit in there.

The digital-to-analog converter (DAC) on the iPhone was never really good (the one on the 1st gen iPod shuffle is fantastic in comparison) so you're not getting a decent sound no matter what premium headphones you plug in there. I hope the EarPods are decent and the converter in the adapter isn't too bad. Not that I wanna get the new iPhone (I'm loving my iPhone SE), but here's hoping the standards are not dropping too much for the low end model.

Why are so many people charging their phones and listening to music?? Do you all really do this so much? If so, why? If I can charge my phone then it's likely i'm somewhere I can use another device - eg my home cinema, my home hi-fi or my home recording studio setup...why would I be using headphones in my iPhone if I have access to these?

At work. I want to listen to my music collection. I don't want to drain my battery in the process.

The best testament to Otterbox protection was the gold iPhone 5S we found a year ago, in the gravely sand, run over by a car. The glass screen protector was cracked, and the 5S very slightly bent (we easily made it straight again), but the phone was otherwise perfect and working!

Not the right angle plug on the end of my Klipsch earbuds. Nice and flat against the phone. This thing...add an inch.

if you don't even have bluetooth audio that's a fail on your car

use your old phone while you drive around in your old car
if you care about music then buying a car in which you can't upgrade the stereo wasn't a very wise decision

I travel. I'm not syncing my phone to rental cars.

Oh yes, Otterbox is extremely dependable. I trust it when I know I'm going to be in a risky situation.
