I like the nifty new features, not many of them sadly, but really OSX--er--MacOS is already a system so good there's not much you can add. Though I may be wrong. Also still no password for folders to store my romantic action movies.

Encrypted sparse bundle disk images have been able to handle that for a long time. Enjoy...

Siri can only tell which files you have opened and worked upon, if Spotlight indexes it properly and Finder shows it. Right now there is a bug in El Capitan that makes it impossible to know all the files that you have opened recently and worked on. This has not been fixed since Yosemite so I can't see how it would work in the new OS?

Your post. If you're still on Mountain Lion, you are short a ton of great features.
For what I use OS X for I don't need anymore features, or rather the features offered each year either don't appeal to me or aren't relevant. There's no point upgrading for the sake of upgrading. I believe the phrase is "it just works".

Personally software I use for work doesn't work on Mavericks or beyond so I have to stay on Mountain Lion for that respect, but even if I did Yosemite would be the highest I'd go. El Cap was a bland release and Sierra looks even worse.

LETS MAKE THE BOOTABLE USB!

macOS Sierra Developer Preview 10.12 has been released on the mac app store to developers. A redemption code can be obtained from https://developer.apple.com/download/ after logging in with a developer ID to then download the installer.

To make a bootable usb format an 8 GB (or preferably 16GB) USB3 drive which should be called Untitled and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The installer should be called Install 10.12 Developer Preview.app and should be in your Applications folder.

Run this in terminal and wait about 20 minutes:

sudo /Applications/Install\ 10.12\ Developer\ Preview.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ 10.12\ Developer\ Preview.app --nointeraction

Can anyone explain what the changes to iCloud Drive are? The description is very vague. I thought you could already share your files between your Mac, iPhone and iPad. At least that is what I'm doing now. What does this change provide that I can't do now?

Some of these features are interesting, but most of them don’t apply to me. This will be the first time in the past 6 years that I will not ‘upgrade’ to the newest OS. I would consider doing it just for the hell of it, but unfortunately apple has lost my trust regarding the number of bugs in their software. Maybe there will be something more interesting next year.

Also, it is good to keep old redemption codes to compare with the developer page to see when new full installers are released. When this happens the code will change. If they release delta updates and no full installer the code will remain unchanged.

They don't always make it clear when new full installers are available but I have found that if you keep your old redemption codes saved somewhere in a text file you can easily use this method to see if a full installer has been released.

No?
  • Resolution independent UI for scaling
  • Proper fullscreen mode across all monitors
  • New iTunes
  • Spotlight plugins
  • Better window management
And a long etc.

But Apple thought adding all those gimmicks to Messages was more important.

Menubar in windows.

The old way is not ergonomic on a 48" 4K monitor.

I'm confused, and please correct me if this has been answered. Is the ability to access one desktop on multiple macs essentially like putting the account on a network, where the users home folder lives in the cloud? Or is this something else?

It's really sad that the "most advanced OS in the world" ofers just this. They are good things but not worthy an annual release. Nothing that pro users can take advantage of. Just funny toys.

The most advanced OS shouldn't be saddled with a 5 year old version of OpenGL and no timeline for Vulkan support. Apple's treatment of pro users is sickening. Meanwhile Windows 10 has both Vulkan and DX12.
