Now that was sudden!

Oddly enough I might be interested in this, as I take a million notes per day and I just want to ditch paper...
Delightful material to work with, but I cannot keep accumulating a million sheets around the house.
I'd love a pro, but I wouldn't make much use of all its characteristics.
For that use, it would be great.

However, the Mini 6 would be equally great at that, and for less money!

What modem do you think the cellular version of this will have? The X70?

The cellular networks page for the iPad shows this supports the same exact bands as the current iPad Pro and Air.

Federico, the biggest iPad evangelist on the planet, has summed this up really well

Apple -- when you're losing people like this, you are lost yourself

Okay everyone… the existence of the A17 chip in the new Mini begs the question… what chip do you think will be in the new 11th-generation base iPad? The same A17? Let’s have some fun and guess. It won't be that long before we find out.

I don't really agree. Some people want a product with specific specs that just doesn't exist because Apple doesn't make it so it's disappointing to see a new product launch without the specs they want.

If they actually implemented features people wanted, there would be little to complain about, like the 2021 14" MacBook Pro when it launched.

This iPad Mini should've had the A18 Pro and a 120hz display.
Completely disagree. Look at every product release, then come to this board, there are complaints about every product and release. Every one.

As for "implemented features people wanted", is completely subjective. The large majority of people buying Apple products are not "Macrumor Techies". They don't care about specs, they care about ease of use and integration with all their Apple products. They want to take pics, have iMessage on all their devices...and watch movies/surf the net.

You may not want to hear it, but the people buying Apple products(85-90%) don't notice, or care, if their phone/iPad has 60hz.

Latest iPad got A14. My bet is A16. 6GB... no Apple Intelligence... Apple Pencil 2 support.

Apple today announced a significant upgrade to the iPad mini, now featuring an A17 Pro chip and support for the company's new Apple Intelligence system. The refreshed seventh-generation tablet maintains its compact 8.3-inch design while offering notable performance improvements and new capabilities.

This is a good press release update but I wish we had gotten an event update (A18, Face ID, but not ProMotion at this price point).

Is the general public really out there clamoring for "Apple Intelligence enabled hardware"?

Every normie I know basically wants nothing to do with AI or similar things

For sure haha, but Apple is simplifying the naming and distinction since that’s their new shiny thing and that’s what they care about 😄

I’ll be staying with the mini 5 for the foreseeable future. I don’t like the new aspect ratio, side-button Touch ID, volume button positioning, and colors. (And jelly scrolling if that’s still there.)

Same - I might even buy a refurb with more storage (mine has 64gb) which would likely have a better battery than mine.

My battery has totally nosedived in the last year

I wonder if the hopeful subtle changes in the display will be enough to get rid of my instant eyestrain when I view the screen versus the Mini 6. I don't know if it was the jelly scrolling or something else with that display that caused me headaches, but I will look at it at the store, once the Mini 7 has actually been released. If I have no eyestrain when viewing it at the store, I may buy one eventually. But I learned my lesson with the Mini 6. I will NEVER buy any iPad before I view the screen in-person first.

Interesting that they kept the "Pro" name for the processor despite it being used on a non-Pro product. It's confusing. They could easily have called it "A17" and justified the absence of Pro suffix by the fact that it includes 5 GPU cores instead of 6. Weird marketing. I presume they painted themselves into a corner by saying that Apple Intelligence requires A17 Pro or higher.

I doubt it --- smart money would say this is the exact same panel

Your broader point is spot on though, for sure -- definitely need to see/use in person on these before buying
