Fugly :- looks more like an aftermarket

I know right? looks like fugly color ware garbage.
Why not with black front ? White and red on a phone looks like a tampon.
Looks very first-aidy.
Or you know those beer cups at your back yard pool parties? Those plastic red cups with the white inside? Totally reminds me of that.
FAIL.

All this red stuff is in bad taste and should stop LOL ok ok fundraise and awareness, great, but have you all looked up the whole pink ribbon scandal and the origins of the whole pink ribbon movement before it was blown up into a whole marketing joke? Ya look it up. That's what this red thing is looking like, just a big marketing joke.

People's lives matter, focus on the lives not the products sheesh !

ladies and gentleman.. this took courage!
ya right, courage in all the wrong directions *rolls eyes*

And why can't it be both activism and a way to reinvigorate sales?

I think I can safely say that this one product will help more people in this world than I will be able to do in my lifetime.

It could be both. Let's be clear that it isn't. It's marketed as being a way for consumers to help but numbers are selected to benefit the companies involved first and foremost. Apple typically contributes 14% of the sale price to Product (Red). That's less than average (Gap is about 50%), but to be fair they do have a higher margin than Apple. Of that 14% only 18% go towards assisting with AIDS/HIV. The other 82% goes towards marketing Product (Red) products. That means that the average iPhone sells for $695 contributes $97.30 to Product (Red). So, a $695 purchase sends $17.51 to Africa. Of the $97.30 Apple gets to write off, $79.79 goes to market their product. You can't write it off by the way, because you got a product for it and therefore it wasn't a donation. You made a purchase. Apple "donated" money.

Assuming you got your first phone at 18, you live to be 98 years old, and you get a new Product (Red) iPhone every 2 years you would have made $700 in donations. The IRS says that the average charitable donation by someone making less than $25000 a year is $1,874 a year. Chances are you do more in 4 months than this product will do in your lifetime.

Product (Red) is designed to make you feel better about Apple being more profitable. When it comes to helping though, you would do better by buying four boxes of Girl Scout Cookies.

Why stupid white front again!!!??? Can we not get black/red version? Which btw, is a very nice combination?
Why are all the colours except two with white front? I don't get this :(

Same here, I don´t get why they use the very same white front.
Those huge bezels + white front + different back color it´s something they should really change or offer more options.
A "true" red or rose iPhone would be amazing.

You really think selling "Red" iPhones are going to tip the scales on HIV infection rates and AIDS treatment? ok /:-\

Apple's contribution over the years has added up to $130 million, which I don't feel is "a pointless gimmick".

As for tipping the scales of infection rates and treatment, I never claimed any such thing--so don't put words in my mouth.

Apple did not upgrade the iPad 9.7" pro in September 2016. They updated it in March 2016. It is a year old, and ready for an upgrade.

You think they're still coming? That would be nice, but it won't be three. Either they do the 10.5" now, and the 9.7" becomes the cheaper model (which happened today). Or they wait to do the 10.5" after the iPhone event if it betrays the design language of the iPhone Edition. I think if they do that, we'll only see a 9.7" and 12.9" Pro update now that look the same with upgraded internals, and they'll just wait until next spring to do the 10.5" model. The thing about the 10.5" model is that it would be weird to design a sleek new 10.5" device as the base Pro and then not redesign the 12.9" model to also have minimal bezels. I suppose they could do it, but there haven't really been many rumors about it. However, shaving down some size and weight on the 12.9" Pro would go a long way towards addressing a key concern about the device for many early adopters. It's just a bit unwieldy for a handheld device.

Oh poo, so it's it's march not later, .. fine, a handful of months difference. My iPad Air 2 is performing really snappy and I see no reason to upgrade what so ever to be honest. While there are enough products in the line that could use more attention instead.

And in regards to 'you still think..', well, all we have going for us are the ten posts by MR about the iPad line in April .. it's a rumor site, it's an expectation vs rumor, vs, .. reality next month. I guess all those posts of those "trustworthy analysts that are never wrong' are suddenly not reliable enough anymore. Whatever.

Maybe I'm one of the few, but I have the gold 7+ and I have no issue with the white bezel. And this is somebody who is coming from using space gray for iPhones for years.

But there's no doubt my mind, a black display as a whole would have looked way better on the Product Red iPhone.
I had rose gold with white on my 6S Plus and I have a gold and white iPad mini I'm using right now so I don't dislike the color. I just think they are a bit odd sticking to white for every case color other than gray or black, especially when red and black in particular are a striking combination well received in automobiles, fashion, jewelry and so forth-- more so than red and white...excepting patriotic themed merchandise and Valentines Day stuff.

who buys a new $800 phone just because it has a new color?
Even if it did, it will be hiding under a protective case...

I don't understand people who don't use a case, I bet its less than a month before you phone falls and breaks or heavily gets scratched.

iPod Touch hasn't had an update since July 2015.
iPod Nano hasn't had an update since July 2015.
iPod Shuffle hasn't had an update since July 2015.
Apple TV hasn't had an update since October 2015.
iMac hasn't had an update since October 2015.
Macbook Air hasn't had an update since March 2015.
Mac Mini hasn't had an update since October 2014.
Mac Pro hasn't had an update since December 2013.
..... so, let's not upgrade those just yet.

Because nobody is waiting for a new server or workstation and pay the Apple tax to get something state of the art.

The iPad Mini had a release recently in September 2016.
The iPhone 7 had a release recently in September 2016.
The iPad 9.7" had a release recently in September 2016 (even though the Pro model, not the Air).
..... so, let's upgrade what's not even 6 months old.

Because everybody is waiting to replace their recent purchase with the same product again.
Who doesn't want to replace their iPhone 7 with an iPhone 7, and their iPad Air 2 with not an iPad Air Pro.
(hopefully nobody will know that you can put a case on the iPhone 7 that's red ..)
(hopefully nobody will know that there will be 3 new iPad Pro models in a couple of weeks ..)

Tim Cook, 2017.
Spot on! I hate this so much. I want Apple to get back to releasing great new stuff all year long.
