You don't think 1 port is ridiculous? You don't think having to use an expensive adapter that's an optional extra to charge & connect a device at the same time is not insane?

So you know.....don't buy it? What made you think the 1 port would change? It's an Apple entry level laptop, and is for a very specific purpose.

Knowing Apple, their regret is including one port when they would have liked to include none at all, not two.
I can't believe they didn't think of charging the Macbook like this:

Jony must be kicking himself in the shins for focusing on designing tables and forgetting to tell the Macbook brigade that he doesn't like seeing ports on the sides.

Who sits on their sofa, or in bed, or at a cafe, with their iPad plugged in? 99.999% of the time you wouldn't. This MacBook is to be used the same way. And when it isn't plugged in to power, how many USB ports do you need at one time 99% of the time? One. If you need a more flexible, more powerful laptop, Apple has others. They are thicker, heavier, more powerful. For those whose priority is a laptop as light and as low-bulk as the new MacBook, here it is. Want a Pro? Get a Pro.

Always looks like a lovely machine but a second port would add so much versatility. Nice to see macs get an update anyway

It sounds like they are doing with the MBA the same as they did with the cMBP. Just keep it in the line-up and reduce the price (which is effectively what the free 8GB bump is) so that you still have an entry-level model, but no longer update it. I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future they finally remove the cMBP, and the 11" MBA as well.

They still sell the CMBP? :O

I see they added a new accessory for this that allows you to connect HDMI, USB, etc. to the USB-C port. Clever Apple.

I dont know why you think the Iris 540 chips arent released, but they most certainly are. The Dell XPS 13 has been shipping with the 6560U for over 2 months now. The Surface Pro 4 has it since last October.
Wikipedia still lists them as unreleased while it lists a release date of last September for the 6100U, 6200U, 6300U, and 6500U. Macrumors and other Mac sites also have reported the release of various Skylake chips but not yet of those I mentioned. Even Intel still lists the 6560U only as 'announced' not 'launched'. It however lists the 6660U as launched for Q1 2016 and the 6260U, 6360U and 6650U as launched in Q3 2015.

So, according to Intel, it seems I was wrong for four out five of the CPUs I mentioned.

And that's the point, isn't it? Apple thought it not worth mentioning. So they didn't.

Agreed,

Just stating this, because people on this forum were convinced 2nd gen would be the messiah with TB3 USB-C, skylake blowing performance out of the water, and infinite battery life. And the keyboard maybe having more travel (even though I personally really like it, my build is clicky and satisfying)

Relieved to say none of that happened except Skylake minus the whole "Blowing performance out of the water" claim it seems,

I'm happy with my year old machine, no need to trade.
People should be happy too, if they want 2015 it just got cheaper if they need the bleeding edge of ultrabook in Apple's world of offerings, they have that too.

I would only be upset if-
I was trying to sell my rMB around now and prices just took a ding-- non issue
I held out for a year hoping everything would be different-- non issue for me too

I can't believe people are moaning that the update is only minor and disappointing, yes people that is the reason why Apple released it as a silent update and not at a keynote like WWDC. What makes me laugh is if Apple had announced this at WWDC people would still be moaning "that wasn't worth announcing" so really Apple can't win. This is either a laptop that's for you or it's not, and if it's not then why not wait until Apple announce the Mabook Pro's (which will probably get a bigger update at WWDC).

I don't mind a single port, but TB3 and Gen 2.1 USB-C.

I think they're not ready to steal MBA (which must have insane margin with that paltry screen alone) and MBP thunder, no pun intended but I guess it works as a pun

I don't understand the problem with them not offering Thunderbolt 3. Isn't that merely enabling T3 via software? The hardware itself uses USB-C.
No and no. TB requires a seperate chip, and while TB3 supports USB-C and uses the same port shape, it is not the same hardware.

Even with the crappy screen the Air at $300 cheaper is still the better buy.

I see no use case for the MacBook that I can't get on my iPad Air with my $30 Anker keyboard.
