Did I say anything about people not buying it?

Adding a second port would simply be in the best interest of customers (even those, who don't realise at the moment when they're hitting the BUY button), making the product significantly more convenient in real life use (for many). But I'm sure 1 dollar shaved off for the bean counter Tim Cook is more important. Apple under his leadership is, imo, all about stylish external package (form over function), while giving customers the absolute minimum internal specs for the highest possible price.
Sure that iPhone battery case was all about form over function. I'd like to know how many people who would be in the market for this laptop really need multiple ports. PC sales a declining. People are getting by with one port phones and tablets. I honestly think there's a difference between what people say they need and what they actually use. And I think the people that complain the loudest were never the target for this machine anyway. If come June there's no rMBP update or it's just a spec bump on with the existing product design then I think some of these complaints would be warrented. As it is now the rMB is being treated as though it's the only laptop Apple makes. At the end of the day I think Apple wants to sell more Macs not fewer. If the chips needed for the rMBP were available in volume that product would have been released. Since it hasn't either the chips aren't available yet or it's getting a redesign worthy of a keynote announcement not just press release.

The 11" really needs to be killed off. I know it has a much better CPU than the 12" MacBook, but it's a model that really shouldn't exist any longer.

The 12" MacBook is a very capable machine, so the 11" just doesn't make any sense any longer.

For a lot of people the 11 inch makes a lot more sense than the 12 inch Macbook. Cheaper, more powerful, better keyboard (For some - Myself and others hate the Macbook keyboard), magsafe, usb + charging etc.

Its a good all round computer, where as the 12 inch Macbook is a good ultra portable.

I'm still sitting on an early 2009 iMac and in dire need of a new computer. This was not the update i was waiting for. Was hoping it would be the rmbp, mac mini or mac pro those are my 3 choices.

Wow, $1,300 for a pretty netbook. Cool beans, by golly.

Really glad I settled for an 11" air to tide me over until the new Pros launch. Its clear the Airs have entered the 13" cMBP territory of permanent obsolescence but will continued to be sold because they sell.

I am at a point where my next computer will likely not be a Mac. As a lifelong user, it sucks. Apple simply does not make a computer for me. The whole single/lacking/hampered usb, displayport, thunderbolt, copper, optical, no-4K support is pretty much a dealbreaker. O well.

iphone 6s and iphone 6s plus are the pro iphones models, so they must compare to the upcoming Macbook pro 13" and 15"
The macbook it should be compared to the iPhone SE

Barely 1 minute in and already >10 complainers.
If you complain it is NOT for you.

That's an answer in the category 'bloody obvious'. Nothing wrong with some criticism, I'm sure this model would be good enough for many, but if you would like to see an upgrade for a 15 inch model then this model (obvious) doesn't deliver....

Jobs wouldn't have done it…

I could imagine Jobs doing it. Remember, the Apple Cinema Display had (still has?) one weird combined power / DVI connector box. A lot of other products under the Jobs era shipped with "just one" firewire port or "just one" of some other port, necessitating the need for hubs.

Cook is not listening to people…

Not all decisions fall on Cook, even if he ultimately bears responsibility.

I don't sense that Cook has a vision for where to take the company. That's why the product matrix is so wonky and they are branching out into everything (cars, VR, search, luxury items, "radio", TV shows) with a whole lot of mediocrity. They are trying things and seeing what sticks. If anything, I think he listens to too many people and is afraid to make unpopular moves that Jobs would have probably made a long time ago (i.e., killing off some beloved products even if they make money to shift to a better direction).

Jobs had a keen sense of the bigger picture and wanted to place Apple there just in time to make Apple make the future happen. Do you sense that from Cook? I don't sense a laser focus on the bigger picture that Apple used to have.

Patience folks. Your multi-port, high powered laptop is coming later to a MBP near you...this rMB is not for you.

My only disappointment was that the price remained the same.

Seems really expensive for what you get. I'd think the lower end Macbook Pro would be a better option.

I still hope Apple will adres the lack of a MacPro update in the coming event... If Apple doesn't continue with an new MacPro model then I'm forced to buy a power pc, and that after twenty years of mac usage....

Wondering why Apple is still keeping the Macbook Air. The Macbook Air lineup is really in an odd position right now. The only reason I could think of is that Apple cannot push the rMacbook at $999 just yet.

I'm not sure what apple is selling: mb or empty page.

There are more people willing to make a transition to windows...workstation.

Next to the slimmer HP Spectre that comes with proper Core i CPUs, 2x Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C Port this Macbook looks a little under-engineered.

Although I was never in market for the Macbook it makes me worried about the future of Apple products. At some point I have to reevaluate what OS X is worth to me.

Slow is relative....

Looking at the benchmarks listed on everymac.com it seems that the "old" (top) MacBook is slightly faster than my Mid2010 base iMac which would still do more than o.k. if it wasn't for some recent HW issues.

A 13" Macbook-Pro "Mid2012" reaches allmost identical score (against the 2015 top MacBook) so it would be just 3 years behind in speed while sporting no moving parts, Retina longer batterylife and smaller footprint.

Don't see why one wouldn't be able to do "serious" stuff on a 4 year old MBPro (3 years if the new MacBook benches the same as a 2013 MBPro).

No TB-3? No USB 3.1? No 2nd port? No 14" model?

At least I don't need to feel like I failed being an early adopter. Can still love my 2015 model without feeling like I am missing out!!

Teehee. Yes, I feel the same way. Usually being obsoleted fills me with a sad sort of melancholy followed in short order by whimpering noises from my wallet. This time, not so much. I'll be happy to continue using my first generation for another year or two. :)

It's where the polycarb MacBook was after October 2010. It's being kept around solely because Apple can sell it profitably for $899. Likely in a year or two the MacBook line expands and Apple can sell a $999 version.
