People actually thought this device was going to be redesigned only one year after it was released? Not sure what you're smoking. Spec bump and rose gold was obvious. Everything else is what the MBP is for. My guess is redesigned MBPs will be announced at WWDC.

To all you whiners out there: if you didn't like the whole concept of this machine when they released it in 2015, did you really think the 2016 update would somehow turn things around 180 degrees to your liking?
Because it wasn't what they want they assume Apple just made a mistake and would 'correct' it. Some people just have to have 20 USB 4's and six Thunderbolt 12 ports on their electric toothbrush, otherwise it's not good enough.

Some have actually mentioned Thunderbolt 3. Why? Why would this beautiful laptop, perfectly tuned to what many users want, need Thunderbolt 3? How many 5K monitors did you want to run off your ultra portable laptop? How many 20TB disk arrays did you want to schlep around with you, and why the **** did you want an ultra light laptop to go with them ?

I guess I'll wait for a deal. Was hoping to see them go to $999/$1299. That feels more like the right price range to me.
I expected them to replace Air with the 2015 model. But the main disappointment to me is that there are no signs of that keyboard being changed in any way, which means I'll be holding on to my Air. Yes, it has a terrible screen, I know.

So I'm going to assume this is truly the new Macbook. I guess the Macbook Air is end of life because it still doesn't have Retina Display, yet this does. Ok Apple. 12" Macbook = Macbook + Macbook Air. Got it.

Aaaaand it appears I was right not to wait, and to order an early 2015 12" MB last month....

I was worried the new 12" MB would have more ports or TB3 or worse yet some rare upgraded GPU would arrive, but it looks like all you get is skylake... a buggier chipset than broad well, if slightly faster. I'm not impressed, but I am selfish enough to be glad my resale value won't take a big hit.

Man, solid update! If I didn't have a 2013 15", I'd bite.

*Sigh* I guess I'll wait for rev 3. :(
The battery life gains were huge here.

Honestly for me, it isn't the computer exactly. My dream is a rMB that can power a standalone 5K Thunderbolt display over TB3 when I get home. We're a long way from here and Apple may never make that possible, but I can dream!

I could build a gaming PC and still have enough to buy a cheap laptop with better specs than this for the price of the base model alone.

I love Macs, but not when they are clearly overpriced. The rMBP is great. This? Not even close.

The reason I trust real consumer experience rather than the parrot apple engineers 'magical' statements is simple conflict of interest; Apple wants you to keep buying products, they don't have any real motivation to increase durability of the battery; they have reasons to increase battery life as a selling point, but not how long the battery will live. They want you to buy a new laptop in two years, or at minimum, come back to genius bar to replace your battery.

So go ahead, enjoy the apple koolaid
I've had two computers since the introduction of the unibody design (meaning the 1000 cycle batteries). I've serviced over 2000 apple computers at an Academic institution where I was working before my current job. I'm ACMT certified. I'll take my hands on experience with hundreds of Apple laptops verses your rant.

Apple laptop batteries are rated for 1000 cycles before the capacity drops below 80%. I've seen maybe 12 that haven't gotten there in the hundreds of take backs (for new deployments, take back the old machine (3-5 years old)) I've performed.

Have you ever looked into how Apple's battery systems work? It's not unique, but they're spot on in their lifespan claims.

I really don´t get the surprised/angry reactions to lack TB and extra ports..

It´s the 2016 version of the iBook / MacBook Plastic..
It´s not the 2016 Powerbook / Macbook PRO..

I get that you want it all (who doesn't? :) ) but I don´t get why you expect it?

I'd get an iPad pro over this. Gonna wait for the MacBook Pro update at WWDC for more ports & power. But that's just me.
there's tons of rumours going around that apple will apply the same formula of the Macbook onto the new MBP this year, that is, either 2 or 3 USB-C ports with no additional ports. Hope its not true

AND the port is still 'gen 1' limited to 5Gbps, and no thunderbolt 3 support. Apple skimp so much these days...
Hmm....Faster ram and switching to the PCIe SSDs. I'll take the the real world gains from that over the potential limitations OF A MACHINE EXPLICITLY MARKETED FOR THE WIRELESS WORLD.

This is a general use computer, not a workstation.
