I don't understand why some people are disappointed.
We knew it would be just a CPU update, the real news is the rose gold but I expected that too since it made its way on the iPad pro.
I'd like to see a 14'' Macbook with more ports, but it will be introduced during a keynote

Shocking how little effort one of the biggest companies on the planet puts into their computer line these days. The MBA is hopelessly outdated, the flawed rMB gets nothing but an insignificant spec upgrade, the Mac Mini continues to be an embarrassment. Only the MBP is still a very competent machine, but could use a bit of fresh blood. Well, thank god they introduced new colors for the Apple Watch armbands recently, that really saved the day.

And to think that there were people claiming with all their forces that there would not be an update for the 12. Mb this year!!!

No skylake they said.... I even made a bet with one of them, had he accepted I would be typing this from my new 12 inches!!!

Still just a Core M chip and still just a single USB-C port? No Thunderbolt3? For that price?

It's funny that HP managed to squeeze a Core i5/7 chip and two TB3 ports in their latest ultrabook that's even thinner than the rMB.

Oh, but you can get it in rose gold, so I guess it's fully worth it.

The biggest disappointment:

"Dual display and video mirroring: simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at 30Hz on an external display, both at millions of colors"

What's the point of even advertising that it can support a 4K display if it can only do 30Hz? Might as well promote the use for 2560x1440 monitors. MacBook Pro or bust.

I was hoping the new update could support 4k display at 60hz. Well, time to move on.

One of the worst things you could do to your battery (phone, laptop, iPad) is to constantly plug and plug it; and that's exactly what a single port does for this one.

Wonder how bad the battery will be after a year or so of use

That's old school thinking from the Ni-Cad days that suffered from the "memory effect"... effectively the battery would get less and less capacity due to a "bubble" of unusable cell forming inside. That does not happen with today's batteries. It's okay to plug them in as often as you want. Open to scientific proof of the contrary. :)

Hopefully the bluetooth is better on this one. I can't stream music through my laptop to my stereo using bluetooth or airplay without constant drops, but it works flawlessly on my phone.

If I needed to buy a laptop right now I would without a doubt buy the less expensive, more powerful, more practical 13" MBA. No question. However I can easily imagine that by the time I need to buy a new laptop (I'm on a 2013 MBA right now and don't anticipate upgrading for another 3-5 years) the descendant of this MacBook will perfectly suit my needs.
Same here... but I have someone else that would love to use my 2013 MBA (certainly another 3-5 years of good use) and my eyes would appreciate if my pocket would let go of some cash to buy me a Retina display ! :)

funny how they do this all silently but reserve a full evening of talking about watch bands and a iphone 5 with new processor and a ipad pro in a different size. . Just proves how low priority Macs are for apple.

They have been doing silent macbook updates for a few years now.

Lol just realised that 8GB is only standard on the 13 inch model... great job skimping on the 11 inch Apple -_-

The 11" really needs to be killed off. I know it has a much better CPU than the 12" MacBook, but it's a model that really shouldn't exist any longer.

The 12" MacBook is a very capable machine, so the 11" just doesn't make any sense any longer.

Maybe pricing? People still buy 16GB iPhones in droves too. Again, pricing?

Maybe not.... No one ever thinks u may not need that much storage.. ? Price as well.. but i would still buy 16Gig iPhone always just because i have no use ever on filling it up.. but I buy 128Gig Ipad because that's where all my apps are. Also, with cloud stuff nowdays, no one really needs to live on their device when they can sync between devices,

One of the worst things you could do to your shoe (slippers, trainers, boots) is to constantly step and step it; and that's exactly what walking on one foot does for this one. Wonder how bad the shoe will be after a year or so of use?

RIP Macbook Air.

Nope

The air was dead to me once they re-introduce the macbook w/ the retina screen. Surprised apple is still selling the air.

What is the best-selling laptop that Apple sells? That should mitigate your surprise.

RIP iPhone with only 16GB. Nope. Why? Sells well.

Apple likes the money more than they make decisions based upon superior tech or even our own ideals of what makes a good product. The money rules such decision making. Air and 16GB iPhones make lots of money (in volume).

“MacBook is the thinnest and lightest Mac we have ever made and it’s our vision for the future of the notebook,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Customers are going to love this update to MacBook, with the latest processors, faster graphics, faster flash storage, longer battery life and a beautiful rose gold finish.”

I know someone who charges their phone in the evening and unplugs it when full, before sleeping, so as not to overcharge overnight. He starts the day with significantly less than full charge, having wasted it in his sleep, and it doesn't always last the day when he needs it. I plug mine in when I go to bed, it's full in the morning and lasts the day.
It never ends to surprise me that some people still believe that after decades of rechargeable batteries, engineers still haven't figured out to stop charging (or switch to trickle-charging) once the charge level has reached 100%. Even if the real reason behind this is merely force of habit or rather the unwillingness to take in new information.

I actually unplug my phone overnight as well but for entirely different reasons. For once, I put it into airplane mode overnight, meaning it's still at 100% in the morning (or maybe 99.7%). The actual reason is that I don't want to accidentally yank the charging cable when I wake up in the morning (and am still half asleep) and reach for the phone or anything else on my night table. Yanking the cable might damage the cable and it might send the phone flying to the ground.

amazing how many people still think that about batteries though. If anything it is better b.c it puts less cycles on the battery.

Someone isn't understanding something, so I have to clarify.

The laptop has one port; so do iPads and iPhones. What makes this laptop's single port so bad that it somehow impacts the battery? Plugging in your flash drive to the single port doesn't do anything different than plugging it in to your MacBook Pro. You can charge it just the same, use the laptop, and use accessories, all as you would on any other laptop. I charge mine overnight, like I do my iPhone every 2 or 3 days. It's good to go all day.

I fail to see the logic behind why a single port would be detrimental to the battery...?
