As a user of a unibody MB, I can say this thing is far from a pro machine.
I do not get why Apple is doing this, it just seems like a really waste of time. For god sakes the MBP is not even what I would consider a pro machine anymore.
Everyone here knows damn well that the Pro line is purely a marketing thing. As a user of a unibody MB, I can say this thing is far from a pro machine.
I do not get why Apple is doing this, it just seems like a really waste of time. For god sakes the MBP is not even what I would consider a pro machine anymore.
Im not getting the new macbook because of the SD SLOT. SD slot is for windows computer only. Why have it on apples computers?
Can't wait to pick up my 13" macbook PRO as my first mac! 😎
For god sakes the MBP is not even what I would consider a pro machine anymore.
HOORAY!! 13" - check! Aluminum - check! FIREWIRE - CHECK CHECK CHECK!!!
Boom. Money spent. 13" 2.53 w/8GB coming my way.
Time to change my sig. WELCOME BACK FIREWIRE, AND THANK YOU APPLE FOR LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!
And I can't believe you have over 4,600 posts on MacRumors and have never owned a Mac. 😱

LOL! why do you hate windows so much? :flame suit on: SD slots would be welcomed by the many photographers that use Macs.
Wow.
Who will now select the plastic macbook over the new 13" MBP. For $200 you get: aluminum chassis, faster processor (2.26 v 2.13), lighted keyboard, LED screen, SD slot, FW800 (v 400), better battery, more potential for ram (8gb (!) v 4 gb), lighter weight, and beauty.
The plastic Macbook is officially a loss leader.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)
If it were truly a 'pro' machine it would have a compactflash slot, not an SD slot.
Basically it's another typical apple move in completely ignoring professionals. To add to that, where the he'll is the antiglare option on the 15"??
OK, 13" Macbook Pro = awesome, BUT:
13" MBP US price = $1199
13" MBP UK price = £1299
According to www.oanda.com/convert/classic ;
Monday, June 8, 2009
1,199 US Dollar = 750.609 British Pound
£1299 - £750.61 = £548.39 or $875.98 discrepancy.
THIS. IS. A. F**KING. JOKE. 😡😡😡😡😡😡
Seriously, if you shop around you could fly not one but 2 people to New York from the UK for that price difference!
WTF Apple?!?!
Apple needs to start offering Blu-Ray on their laptops and desktops. this is freaking ridiculous how long it is taking them to support the format.
They don't even have to offer models which burn BD discs, they can offer BD reading superdrives, and offer BD burning as an option.
FYI, the difference is now $150 between the White MB and low end MBP with the US education discount. The $949 is still a good price, but the value of the $1099 MBP is better in my opinion. Throw more RAM in there from a third party, get the iPod Touch and printer, and upgrade to a 7k320/500 HDD and you have a great machine at a great value.
$57.99 for 4GB of RAM from Newegg
You might want to double check the price of the Macbook Pro 13" before getting in such a strop. Its only £899 in the UK, so not as bigger gap in price as you were so quick to proclaim.
They've updated it. Good thing I hadn't refreshed the page so could get a screenshot:

They made a mistake. The first price I saw was also £1299
The 12" Powerbook lives again!!!!
I'm pretty happy with my white macbook, but when the time comes, I will certainly be purchasing a 13" MBP.
I've had enough of people asking this question or mentioning it when comparing PC's to Macs. "It doesn't play Bluray"
Think about it carefully. What is the purpose of BD right now? It's mainly used to play 1080p movies on BD players and PS3's all of which needs 32"+ screens to take full advantage of the image quality. Why would you really need BD players on 13", 15" or 17"? If I wanted to take advantage of 1080p movies I'd watch them on my 42" LCD with surround sound and not on my 13" Unibody MacBook. If you want to use it to store data then the better and quicker option is to use USB memory sticks. It's really a no brainer.
The other reason for Apple to hold out on bringing BD to its machines is the inevitable. Everyone knows that physical media formats are on the decline. It's all about downloading your songs, your movies and your games. Look at how the market is moving... Apple, Microsoft and Sony all implementing downloadable music, movies and games into their devices.
So please stop the BD nonsense now. It's past becoming annoying.
It seems clear that the decision to go to an aluminum one piece chassis was very forward thinking. Now, if a change is made (add an sd slot, delete a usb port) it is easily and quickly done with simple CNC programing changes. No more sending out to have molds made, research materials, worry about creaking, etc. Wonderful industrial design!
