oh well. I knew what I was in for.

...

anybody wanna buy a unibody 2.0 for $950??

Didn't Steve Jobs once try to convince us we really didn't need this (firewire)? I wonder what happened to that one? -1 for Apple's paternalistic attitude.

Shhhh....! Steve's been out of the factory for a while and they snuck the firewire back in. Someone may have to take a bullet when he returns for getting this done.

Wow, so that makes my current 15 UMBP kinda special because it has a feature only the top of the line has (17) - express card slot

Sounds like a little boy who doesn't know the English language is salty that his computer is no longer the latest and greatest

No actually i know english pretty well, been speaking it for 8 yrs, I even think in English, but well i was typing fast not really bothering with the grammar etc. But seriously I'm disappointed with the update especially with the rebranding, MBP 15" has caught my attention though.
BTW, when i got the aim was not "latest & greatest", it was to try out a mac and 13", seeing that it works nicely all i wanted was a macbook with a 13" with a better video card. Of course that is not available.

The display can display a wider range of colors.

Thanks. Does anyone happen to know what the viewing angle is of the new 13" MBP? Apple's tech spec page doesn't offer any insight. As long as it is an improvement of the last 13" display, I'll be happy.

It seems as though the new 13" is priced quite competitively with the rest of the world for once. I'm going to have a tough time not buying one once refurbs hit the apple store. The illuminated keyboard and fw800 (though i would like at least one 400 port) make this quite awesome.

The new MBP 13" is all I've been looking for in a 13" macbook. Especially the SD card reader is a must-have for me.
I've immediately put my 13" UMB up for sale, let's see if I can get a reasonable price for it. I so want to buy the entry model of the MBP, and after a while upgrade the RAM myself to 4GB. :apple:

400 vs. 800

Can someone explain the difference between a Firewire 400 and 800 to me?

I can't quite "get" the concern about not having replaceable batteries that some people voice.

The new Macs can take 1000 charges; that's like once a day for 3 years before they show degradation. Apple sees them good for five years . . . who really doesn't upgrade every three years or so anyway

I've got a 3 and a half year old laptop ;) People who can't afford to/don't need to is the obvious answer, but even then I don't see the problem. My heavily used battery still gives me a couple of hours use (a third of what it was originally)

It's all in the numbers, FW400 is a 400Mbps connection, whereas FW800 is an 800Mbps connection.

The actual shape and size of the connectors are different too.

Thank you. Does that mean that 800 is faster? Also, does that mean that my Sony video cam that I used FW400 for before, will need a different connector?

Even the previous unibody MBs in their last shipments were already using the best screen; I am sure it's at least as good as that.

yes, fw800 is faster. You will have to get an adapter if you want to use a fw400 device (your camera) with the MBP's.
