So finally Apple did the right thing and gave us a substantial update. But they had to, because (and I'm surprised no one has mentioned this as yet)...

... There was no Steve Jobs and no RDF!! :D

I love my unibody Macbook, but the new 13" MBP is even better. I'm meh about the other features, but its worth it for the 7 hour battery and firewire alone.

Apple has no idea what they want to do right now. They seem like they are confused on what is a Pro and what isn't.

A "Pro" is whatever the company marketing it as such wants it to be....

Can't wait to pick up my 13" macbook PRO as my first mac!

Whooooooo Hoooo!!!!!

HOORAY!! 13" - check! Aluminum - check! FIREWIRE - CHECK CHECK CHECK!!!

Boom. Money spent. 13" 2.53 w/8GB coming my way.

Time to change my sig. WELCOME BACK FIREWIRE, AND THANK YOU APPLE FOR LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!

The most important reason that I would be buying the MBP was the superiority of it's screen over unibody MB line.

Now that unibody laptops are united in MBP name that that name has a reputation.....

Will Apple get rid of the cheap, narrow viewing angled LCDs of the MBP 13?

If that's the case I'm buying this...

P.S. Silent LCD upgrade in April is a joke, I just saw the screens of the new MB's at Apple store last week and the improvement is not good enough.

This is the big one for me too. Does the 13" MBP have the better LCD now?

edit: oh i'm several pages behind nevermind.

One thing, that doesn't seem have gained much attention, is that they appear to have removed audio line-in from the 13" Macbook "Pro"

Actually - edit....

Judging from the spec sheet it may be a combined in/out in one socket, with some software switch I presume. Still kinda crap.

You can switch between line in and line out via software it seems. Or use an iPhone-style headset to get a mic input and stereo output.

I hope the apple in-ear headphones work with this thing...that would be saweett!!!!1111one

Do you think there's a chance for the 24 hour Apple store in NYC to receive the shipment of new Macbooks by tonight? I do not mind going in at midnight to get it lol.

Im not getting the new macbook because of the SD SLOT. SD slot is for windows computer only. Why have it on apples computers?

Nice upgrade to the 13". Interesting move adding the "Pro." Possibly clearing the way for the inevitable iTablet being named.... Macbook?

WOW.

You'd NOT buy something because of that? Its even implemented in apple's sexy way (yes there are ugly sd slots, im staring at it now).

Don't take this the wrong way, but man are you vain.

You are sorely mistaken. The SD card slot on my Dell Mini 9 works just fine under OS X.

Where the Hell did you hear that SD cards were for Windows computers only? Someone was taking you for a ride.

EDIT: And they're probably still laughing.

It sounded to me he meant it as an insult. "ew, an SD slot, what are you a windows user?"

I could be mistaken tho.

Wow.

Who will now select the plastic macbook over the new 13" MBP. For $200 you get: aluminum chassis, faster processor (2.26 v 2.13), lighted keyboard, LED screen, SD slot, FW800 (v 400), better battery, more potential for ram (8gb (!) v 4 gb), lighter weight, and beauty.

The plastic Macbook is officially a loss leader.

In which case an SD slot is no more (arguably less) unattractive than the ExpressCard slot they pulled from the 15" and that still exists in the 17". It's small and unobtrusive. I much prefer having an SD cardthat slots in flush for backing up files externally than a USB key hanging out the side of my Mini 9.

LOL! why do you hate windows so much? :flame suit on: SD slots would be welcomed by the many photographers that use Macs.

So Apple got rid of a line-in port, added firewire and an SD slot.. and that's praise-worthy? IMO, that's more meh, and what should have been there in the first place.

Now how come this 13" 'pro' machine doesn't have a real video card?
