The replacement ones will sound better because they don’t have the crackling. Apple needs to know how widespread the problem is, so don’t ignore it.

My left AirPod actually has a very little scuff on it. I am worried to send it to Apple while they hold my credit card, and than have to pay 29€ deductible. Even if the scuff isn't related to the issue at all.

They’ll never look.

I don't understand how the connecting to multiple devices will work exactly, in real-time. If I'm streaming Spotify on my laptop, and my phone rings, the Airpods will make a decision to switch the phone when I answer it?
I think that’ll happen if you answer your iPhone, but if you answer on a device that also answer calls (iPad), then the AirPods will stay connected to that device.

Got the update but im still not convinced if SIRI can actually take competent reminders while using the AirPods Pro STILL.

To me, my AirPods Pro seem to have a much better sealing with ANC after the firmware update. I like.
Cmaus, by 'better sealing' are you referring to 'fit' or 'sound/noise suppression' ? Just curious as I've not had to return my recently purchased (~3weeks) pods. Mostly use them for vocal podcasts but will start using for music with and without Noise/Trans setting to observe for 'rattling'. Got some initially but it seemed to go away after re-adjusting the (left) earpiece. Will need to do testing to make sure mine are not defective. So far so good.

Everything sounds great with this update and my Comply tips.
How are those working out for you? Do you clean them? I have to use a headband around mine to keep them in my ears with the stock tips.

Apple just re-opened in my area, and I got one of my AirPods Pro replaced because of the crackling issue. They just ran a test and replaced it without question. The new one works great.

Nice. Maybe the right AirPod will charge now instead of being dead after a few days in the fully charged case.
Same issue here as well. See my pods with Bluetooth connection but can't see them under the settings, general, about SMH.

Just returned with my replacements. The Apple store here just took the notes from my call with them two weeks ago and gave me replacements for both. I added the right as being an issue. They ran some diagnostic on them or the charging case. Have to wait a 30 minute charge before pairing.

For me, going from 2D15 to 2D27. Set iPhone XI Pro Max on wireless charge pad. Set AirPods Pro on wireless charging pad and then opened lid to case. Went to Bluetooth and ensured I tapped to manually connect. 10 Min later 2D27 was installed. This was the fastest I've ever seen the firmware update over prior versions.

Excellent update. Super clear! Noise Cancelling is better IMHO. Other modes -- transparency and OFF -- are equally good for their respective functions. I, too, noticed that you seem to be able to move the volume more toward the louder side -- still crystal clear. Haven't noticed any other specifics but am continuing to use and explore. Overall I am happy with the firmware update.

I just received my replacement AirPod Pros and talk about night and day. The sound is so much better on my new Pros. The ANC, bass and sound quality are much richer. The first pair had a lot of issues. I could never get a tight seal whenever I ran the Tip Fit Test no matter what size tips I used. The crackling sounds was the last straw for me.

So much better now!

After a few more days of use, I can say the ANC is not as effective. But the sounds is better. This FW traded some ANC for more bass it seems.

Some improvement in call quality? The voice is still kinda muffled from receiver’s side?

i've just tried a couple of voice memos in a noisy environment: the improvement is impressive! the external noise suppresion has strongly improved, let's hope to confirm this in the next phone calls!

You'd think so. This started happening to mine and my partners airpods the same week though. Both of us suddenly had trouble getting one of the airpods to charge reliably. Made me suspicious that they borked something software side.
Had the same issue with my Airpods Pro until 2D27 came out now they charge fine 🤔

I have the crackling sound in the left ear. The moment you walk or cycling, you hear this sound almost non stop.
Hope this firmware fixes the issue otherwise it's time to visit the Apple Store.

Edit: updated to 2D27 and the crackling sound is still.

I've been using other brand TWS for a while, and went back to AirPods Pro today and noticed the crackling a few minutes ago. If I open my mouth the crackling goes away, but if I close my jaw it comes back, almost like when the pressure in my ear canal increases as I close my jaw so does the crackling.

"but there have been ongoing complaints from AirPods Pro users about issues with Active Noise Cancellation and crackling or popping sounds."

These aren't fixed :-(
For people who don't know the issue is that the Left Ear (only the left ear) sounds like something is loose and rattling if you move around, like when you are walking. It goes away when you stand still. It only happens for Transparency or Sound Cancellation, not for "None" mode.
For me I guess it began with the 2D15 build and, sadly, it's still here.

If I HAD to guess I'd guess that for the smart modes (Transparency or Sound Cancellation)
- the gyroscope is being measured (so nothing happens if your head is not moving), perhaps in some way to shape the sound being calculated against where your head will be in a few cycles as opposed to where it is right now
AND
- the calculation being used on right vs left side needs to differ in a few places (plus vs minus sign) to deal with the left vs right shape of the pods and ears
AND
- someone has made a sign error at one point of the calculation, so that you get perfect matching in the right ear, and anti-perfect matching (clicks) in the left ear.

If I turn off transparency or ANC modes the crackling goes away.

But with those modes turned on I can just be sitting here not moving and a regularly irregular clicking sound in the left ear, until I open my mouth and it goes away. I don't have to move to hear it, but with my mouth slack jawed I can move my head around and I don't hear it. It only happens when my jaw is mostly closed or closed all the way shut.

EDIT - it's my heart beat? When I close my jaw I can hear my heart beat and the quiet clicks march along with my heart beat for the most part, sometimes inserting an extra click here and there.

EDIT 2 - OMG, if I sing or hum to my dog in a low voice I get a metallic rattling in the left earpiece.

Picking up any radio stations? 😂

I’ve been reading comments about 2D27 but I didn't have time to try it. After updating my pods now I can't listen any music at all! After 2-3 sec it starts playing it just cracks and stop giving any sound. I am able to talk with it my voice is okay to listener and I can hear them too. But no music. Is it just me or my pods just broke where it sits all day long?

I tried changing between ANC off and transparency. It still gives me 2 sec of music then stop. It’s really amazing how this happened after just a software update. I couldn't be happier with my previous 2d15 ones. Now I can't even use my pods.

Edit 2: It works better than before on Macbook. Everything seems so on point. But why does not this work on my phone like this? After a couple of restarts now it gives sounds but not constantly. I wonder if it's an issue about gyroscope inside it and it bugs with the new spatial audio that they introduce with ios14 even though I'm currently on iOS 13.5.1

After another couple of restarts and forget this device and connect again. Everything seems okay. Weird but I'm glad I can use it.

Why then I can ear this rattling cracklings noise only sometimes? Only left ear, only sometimes, I would say 90% of the time I use them they work fine. Could it be related to dust or dirty inside the microphone instead?

Mine too!

Me too. By the time I updated the firmware, no rattling sound wheresoever but it happened to me only sometimes so it is not reliable.

I am scared to get them replaced and get another faulty APP.
If you’re too frightened to have your faulty AirPod replaced, then you’ll have to live with the defect 🤷‍♂️

Pray it doesn’t start happening 100% of the time after the warranty runs out.

Have Apple replace it, it’s a known defect.

1) It’s a known defect
2) Get it replaced

FYI this is most likely grime or dust getting stuck in the ANC microphone(s).

I took my APP to the Apple Store today because they got so bad that anytime I talked with transparency mode on both earpieces would feed my voice back into the earpiece with it sounding like I was a robot, or talking through a Kazoo or had a piece of tinfoil stretched over a comb in front of my mouth (I'm dating myself there). I called Apple and they sent me a link to get an appointment, but I could not make an AirPods Pro appointment via the support app, so I went in.

This was my first trip out of the house to go to a store in ages, armed N95 mask, Clorox wipes, and sanitizer - all that I've had for ages due to my lung disease. I know, stupid to leave the house. I waited 3 hours for my appointment, much of it outside with 95 degree heat and a non-functioning left lung, trying to suck air thru a mask; so I had to go to Best Buy and the grocery store to get out of the heat while trying to avoid getting CoVid-19.

Once I got in I explained everything and mentioned this thread and the other on macrumors.com, and demonstrated that the issue didn't happen with their demo set + my tips; when I got the robot voice hear-thru that triggered my ASMR reflex it made me shiver and yank them out of my ears in front of them.

The "Genius" admitted it sounded like both sides were bad, but tried to tell me that a single bad one could make both act up, and since the left was worse that I should try that first. He gave me a story about how they treat each ear earpiece plus the case as 3 separate pieces, and can only do one exchange at a time. They wanted to replace just the left earpiece. I wasn't having it. With the left earpiece out and the music paused the right one still acted up.

I told them I'm too high risk to do this all over again, that I live on the farthest other end of town, and I'm going out of state next week for my daughter's birthday (she is self isolating too), and that I simply could not return in the next day or two and go through all of this over again and be exposed more just to get the other earpiece replaced (I was happy to keep my battery pack). I kindly asked for the manager.

He went to get her but came back 5 minutes later with a new sealed AirPods and no manager, and he did a "late exchange" for the entire thing, including another 2 years of Apple Care. I had brought in my box, unused charge cable, and unused tips, of which they kept all but the tips that I had actually used, and have me a new sealed package with a new 2 yr apple care warranty.

I thanked them profusely and told everyone to stay safe and went home very happy.

So far they are acting fine, but they're still on firmware 2D15. I know that when I put them in the case and charge the case that it will likely update to 2D27, and hope that wont cause any new issues. But my old ones on 2D27 sounded a little warmer and fuller, more solid. I'm still worried that I didn't have the "clicking" and the "buzzing/rattle" until after 2D27 was applied.
