Just updated them.
They absolutely do not do the automatic switching.
But Noise Canceling seems improved to me.
Not sure if placebo but when I activated noise cancelling I was impressed and one of my favorite songs seems to have some never heard details before.

It may just be placebo, but I'm noticing a deeper sound and overall noticeably louder than before. Maybe it's just my brain lol but I can't go past 75-80% volume without feeling like I'm destroying my ears.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any iOS 14 specific features working yet.
I recommend to turn on Sound Check in the Music Settings

I have the same issue with my left earbud. Crackling noise when I make calls, or I listen to music. Strange thing: it only happens sometimes, not every time I use it. I am waiting to see if the firmware update solves it. Could be hardware related?
I think the crackling stuff is always hardware related, maybe some small parts moving around and getting amplified in the not off modes

I also tried the "Ear Tip Fit Test" and it fails regardless on what size (small, medium, or large) ear tips I use. Very disappointed with this firmware updated. Is there a way to revert back to the previous version, 2D15?

I got my Airpods Pro several months ago, and the ear tip fit test worked great every time, even with a couple different sizes.

Something happened a couple months ago (firmware?) that causes all my ETFTs to now fail, in all 3 tip sizes and regardless of how I may wiggle them around. I have tried it many times over several weeks. It just won't pass the test now.

The fit test on mine stopped working at the same time the rattle started. Getting them replaced solved that problem.

Apple today released a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro, upgrading the existing 2D15 firmware to 2D27.

airpodsprocase.jpg

No details are available on what's included in the refreshed firmware at this time, but there have been ongoing complaints from AirPods Pro users about issues with Active Noise Cancellation and crackling or popping sounds.

Apple is also adding a new spatial audio feature to the AirPods Pro in iOS 14, so there's a chance the firmware update is related to that new option. Spatial audio essentially provides surround sound using advanced motion tracking and device location techniques.

There's no clear cut way to upgrade the firmware of the AirPods Pro, with the new firmware installed over-the-air while the AirPods are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time.

You can check your AirPods Pro firmware by following these steps:
  • Make sure the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌AirPods‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
It's been over a month since Apple released the 2D15 firmware, and there were mixed reports about whether that update helped with some of the issues that people have been experiencing.

‌AirPods Pro‌ firmware updates often include performance improvements, bug fixes, and feature tweaks, but we may not find out what's new for some time as Apple does not provide any kind of release notes for ‌‌AirPods‌ updates.

I now have the 2D27 FW on my Airpods Pro. Did an un-pair and pair, STILL have the buzzing in right Pod! REALLY Apple?!?!?

I just grabbed mine from the charging pad they've been sitting on all day, and they've already been updated. I thought you had to physically plug the case in, but guess I was wrong. Not noticing much of a difference in noise cancellation; I can still hear a tv in the same room at normal volume and the AC in the next room with ANC on and no or light acoustic music playing at a reasonable in-ear volume.

Update: ANC still seems to be pretty bad when listening to something lighter.

Sitting on a porch right now with the Spotify Deep Focus playlist at 50% volume: I can hear chirping birds around me clear as day, heard a screen door close ~15ft away, and can vaguely hear cars drive by from ~40-50ft away.

For context: When I first got these, I couldn't even hear a subway train pulling up from about 2ft.

Honestly I get better noise reduction from my 3 year old ANC-less Beats Solo 3's.

I’ve all of sudden started having trouble with my AirPods Pro during phone calls. I’ve had 2D15 update for awhile and all of a sudden the last two or three days I’ve noticed I have to switch off of AirPods Pro to speaker phone and back for them to work during a call. When I checked my firmware it is on 2D27. Any advice?

You could try to restart the phone and/or 'forget' the AirPod Pro in Bluetooth and reconnect.

Am I the only one constantly getting these firmware updates immediately?
It’s great, of course, but a bit disappointing… wish I could be pleasantly surprised by hearing new improvements.

Although, I’ve never had any issues with my AirPods (first generation or Pro). Looking forward to having them automatically switch between devices — a feature that felt so obvious and practical to me, right when they announced it.

I’m noticing some slightly better bass levels, but I can’t say there’s a noticeable difference with the ANC. It hasn’t been as good since I first got them shortly after launch.

Same issue, cannot remember left of right ear. What I don't like is that due to the way that the Apple Care is set up, this is a paid repair or at least it was for me.
There’s no reason this should have been a paid repair. i didn’t pay and neither have anyone i talked to that sent theirs in. I didn’t use apple care either. I don’t even have it. I just used the standard warranty and they covered me no charge

I think the test results are very inconsistent. Normally what would have passed on the older versions, now fail on 2D27. I had to push the pods deep into my ear canal to achieve inconsistent 'Good Seals'. Sometimes both good, at times left only or right only.

To me, my AirPods Pro seem to have a much better sealing with ANC after the firmware update. I like.

The crackle comes from dust or grime lodged in the ANC microphone so that checks out.
Once again for people who can’t read:

This is a known hardware defect. Get your AirPods Pro replaced.

Why then I can ear this rattling cracklings noise only sometimes? Only left ear, only sometimes, I would say 90% of the time I use them they work fine. Could it be related to dust or dirty inside the microphone instead?

The fit test on mine stopped working at the same time the rattle started. Getting them replaced solved that problem.

Mine too!

Everything sounds great with this update and my Comply tips.

Me too. By the time I updated the firmware, no rattling sound wheresoever but it happened to me only sometimes so it is not reliable.

I am scared to get them replaced and get another faulty APP.

The replacement ones will sound better because they don’t have the crackling. Apple needs to know how widespread the problem is, so don’t ignore it.

I don't understand how the connecting to multiple devices will work exactly, in real-time. If I'm streaming Spotify on my laptop, and my phone rings, the Airpods will make a decision to switch the phone when I answer it?
