I just received the update. I live next to a busy street and I have my office just two meters next to the cars. With the new update I can't hear the cars anymore. Only really load ones sometimes. I can "feel" them more through vibration than I can hear them. 😄 So for me the update did the job. It is finally back to where it was when they were released. 🤩

Encountered a new feature in 2D27: my iPhone (11 Pro Max iOS 14) told me this morning in a modal dialog my AirPod Pros will now get an 80% charge and will be charged to full when needed (same text as in iPhone charging).

I'm quite sure this was the main feature in the firmware, hard to believe this could be controlled by the iPhone by itself. Spatial sound could be included as well and awaiting newer iOS14 betas.

This update has made zero difference to my listening and interactions.

AirPods are now typical to all other Apple products.
That in my experience they no longer 'just work'

Id love to be a dev who has worked on this update. Who then comes on these forums and laughs at everyone who says the update 'has made a difference' when all they have likely done is changed some lines of code.

Updated. Running ios 14. Weirdly update seems to have happened almost immediately after i first connected the AirPods to a DIFFERENT iOS 13 device for a few seconds, then switched back to the ios 14 device. 5 minutes later i checked and they were updated. (They were not updated while connected to iOS 13)

This sounds like a hardware issue...
You'd think so. This started happening to mine and my partners airpods the same week though. Both of us suddenly had trouble getting one of the airpods to charge reliably. Made me suspicious that they borked something software side.

I had that problem, too. Left would not charge unless i jiggled it and was careful not to jostle the case at all. Then the lockdown happened and i left my AirPods Pro at work for 2 months Sitting on a qi charger. I finally had to go to the office for something, and i retrieved them. Now the left AirPod charges perfectly fine.

*shrug*

So, wow. I used my Pros extensively when they first came out since I was traveling for work quite a bit, but haven't had them on in several months. Today I confirmed I had the new firmware and put them on for a listen. Totally different sound signature than when I bought them. Anemic bass and significantly lower volume. Mine are also now failing the ear-tip test, and they never failed one time when I first had them.

Earlier in this thread someone made the claim that Apple had to dial back the ANC and bass/volume to avoid damaging the drivers. Based on what I'm hearing, that seems like a reasonable explanation.

For whatever reason I've rarely been impacted by commonly reported hardware issues, e.g. the infamous butterfly keyboard problems. Not this time. I can't believe this is not more widely reported.

AirPod Pros finally updated last night and to me the sound quality is so much better. The bass is definitely there. I also have Bose and Beat headphones and the sound quality is on par. Although I will say my Bose have the best overall sound quality but you can't put them in your pocket and take them every where so in the portability category AirPod Pro win hands down.

I really hope Apple does something about the firmware update process. I can imagine they would see a drop is customer support calls if the majority of users had the latest firmware. I'm just saying ;-)

For those failing the ear tip test are you using the blutak on the grills. I've had mine since launch day it have had several failures with 1 or both ears and the Blutak fixes it every time. I do it about once a week or 2.

Def not firmware. It's hardware. Happened to me a few months ago and I ended up getting a free replacement from Apple.

how did you go about asking for a replacement? I have this issue myself, and not sure if the fact that I got them second hand will be an issue

I went to the Apple Store and the Genius Bar assisted. I'm sure you can contact CS online and ask for assistance if you want to avoid the Apple Store.

I had that same issue in my left ear! And when I talked, it would only get worse. Turned out it was a hardware problem and I had to send them in and get a replacement. This happens to a lot of people apparently

Same issue, cannot remember left of right ear. What I don't like is that due to the way that the Apple Care is set up, this is a paid repair or at least it was for me.

Just to be clear this is not the update you are looking for, it's just at best a bug fix. The barber video above while a great example of dolby headphone standard or a similar sound profile is great it's not the spacial audio Apple are talking about, I really didn't expect this right now, what would have been nice and in some ways useful to Apple in a dev build would have been the auto switching between devices, but alas that's not there either, that's the one where I think they may have a problem with mass implementation so would have been good to test out with dev builds but I guess we'll see if that works from the get go without multiple updates....

It's rather subjective, but after receiving the update, I seem to have significantly increased usable range to my MBP (Catalina).

My $250 AirPods Pro didn't come with any Blu Tack. :(

I have the crackling sound in the left ear. The moment you walk or cycling, you hear this sound almost non stop.
Hope this firmware fixes the issue otherwise it's time to visit the Apple Store.

Edit: updated to 2D27 and the crackling sound is still.
It’s a hardware issue. I got replacements.

You both got headphones from a bad batch, I would contact Apple and see what they say.

I have the same issue with my left earbud. Crackling noise when I make calls, or I listen to music. Strange thing: it only happens sometimes, not every time I use it. I am waiting to see if the firmware update solves it. Could be hardware related?
