Does the non emojibar 2017 still have a gimped CPU like the 2016 though or does it get the same CPU as the base emojibar one.

I don't want an emojibar, but I don't want a gimped CPU either.

OTOH, I really don't see myself buying a machine with the no-travel keys either, so I'm kind of stuck. I was hoping for an update to the 2015 chassis.
What do you mean by "gimped"? If gimped means ULV then all 13-inch models are ULV. The base clock speed doesn't make that much of a difference. If you really want power then go for the quad core 15-inch models, though I suspect it will still have thermal throttling issues.

The Air's upgrade processor remains the same, but went from 120 Euro extra (yesterday) to 180 Euro extra (today) in The Netherlands.

Sorry f this has been mentioned in this thread already (don't see it in a search) but I thought the Kaby Lake upgrade would give us higher RAM options because of its support for low power DDR4. Did it not?

The base model 2016 non-touch 13" has an I5-6360U. The base model 2016 touch 13" has an I5-6267U. There is a world of difference between the chips besides the clock speed.

The touch model is the CPU you'd expect in a 13 inch MPB. The non-touch model is what they'd expect in an entry level MBA. Apple even alluded to that in the keynote calling the non touch the computer for MBA users.

And yes, the 15" CPUs are much better, and I'd love one. But they're way more expensive than I'm willing to pay.

Meh ... I have the 2016 MBP TB and I run 3 4k LG screens with 6 safari windows and a half dozen apps open all of the time while watching 1080p movies and my fan never even comes on. New upgrades are de minimus ...

i just wish the MacBook Air got a Thunderbolt 3 port...I'm still having issues getting used to this flatter keyboard of the '16 macbook pros. My 11"MBA was much easier to type on. But I like the connectivity and charging capabilities of the single TB3/USB-C connector offers.
that's my issue...the new mbp keyboard just seems so useless...shame because otherwise it's a cool machine

Apple chose not to support DDR4 RAM which is disappointing. I'm sure it will come in the next upgrade to the Pro's around Q1/Q2 2018.

The 2016 MBP 15" came with the Intel HD Graphics 530
The 2017 refreshed MBP 15" comes with Intel HD Graphics 630

So will we see a slightly faster CPU with the 630?

I really want a new 13" with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd. But when I looked at the prices I felt like a criminal. Apple has priced me out with their MBP prices.
I don't know how can anyone justify $1800 for a machine with 8GB ram and 255gb storage.

Still waiting for that 32gb RAM upgrade before getting a new MBP
It will only be another 3 years.

I've bought 15 MBP with radeon 460 in the end of the April and I'm not in the group that crying after today WWDC.
Radeon 460 - 1.86 TFLOPS // 560 - 1.90 TFLOPS
Thank you for the info about the GPU, it was the only piece of info I was missing. I'm not crying either, this upgrade is minor as expected: nice for new buyers but not significant enough for owners of the 2016 model.

I guess I'm not furious, just disappointed. The timing between the 2016 release and this new update just feels too close, especially since I bought my MBP in January.
Given all the issues/complaints about the 2016 mbp's that have been well discussed (battery life, questionable keyboard, etc), I dont feel sorry for anyone who still decided to drop $2500 on that pos

Happy with my refurb 2.7/455/1TB purchase of a few weeks ago. Saved 15% and no defects what so ever.

I really thought they'd use the new curve terraced batteries on the new macbook releases for some battery gains. It would have been totally worth the wait. *At least my name member name is aligned with new MacOS.

Me too, but since the updated tech specs say 76.0-watt-hour that's the same as the 2016 model so they are using the same exact batteries.

A few of the benchmarks are taken from the i7 configurations of the touch-bar MBP, yet I don't see a world of difference.

I thought that MacBook update was a typo to start with, they seem to have done away with the m5 and m7 and replaced them with the i5 and i7 while retaining the m3. Very strange.

And a 16GB option too

One thing I was reticent about the MacBooks was the m series chips going from an i7 MBA but this is some boost.

Decisions decisions over a MacBook and a 13" MBP now
Not strange but Marketing Blabla.
These are Y class (=mCore) CPUs but since kaby lake labeled as i5 and i7, but m3 didn't get the rebranding.
