Hi everyone,

My Macbook Pro 15" with TB (2.6), 1TB SSD has been on order since the start of last week, but the delivery time has always been around 9th June. Does anyone know if I will receive a 2.6GHz model or a new 2.8? Guessing the order has been caught up in the new model release (UK).

Thanks :)

I imagine you'll get the new. If you don't send it back ask for the new model.

Thanks! Fingers crossed :D

The only thing from today that could possibly get you furious is the price drop, if you have bought a non-touch 13inch in the recent past. Other than that, the 2017 models are basically minor spec bumps that are negligible for 99% of the users.

Even if you are upset about how much you paid, it's still because you were too lazy to do any homework because the 13-inch base model has been selling for $1299 at least 1/3 of the time in the past.

Got mine with 200$ off and another $100 off apple care. Didn't regret a bit.

(Update: Just noticed the so-called price drop is not actually a drop. It cut storage in half, too. Meh)
Radeon 460 to Radeon 560 is anything but a negligible spec bump considering that the 460 was rather underpowered.

So is the June 17 non TB the one to get or the bumped up TB Oct 2016 model. You can one w/ the 2.9 i5 16gb 256 SSD (refurb) for the same price as the new Non TB 16gb 256 SSD 13

Thanks!!

yup basically a rebadge similar to 650GT to 750GT.
disappointing that Apple is still not putting the iris Pro on the rMBP 15's for better on battery performance.

So Apple has totally forgot about the Mac Mini? Seriously! talk about long update cycle I mean they haven't even bumped up the specs since 2014. Seems like they're just about ready to kill it, 3 years is way to long and I was really hoping for a minor spec bump at least to get it up to date.

I guess apple no longer sells the 'volkswagen' option. It's all BMW from here. Students with low budgets need to look elsewhere.

These prices are ridic. Does anyone use that bar?

MacBook Air i7 2011 with 256GB price is an counterpoint example - compare that with what that gets you now!

Did your machine turn into a pumpkin the second these new machines were announced. If not what's the point in complaining over a 6 month old still good machine.

I guess I'm not furious, just disappointed. The timing between the 2016 release and this new update just feels too close, especially since I bought my MBP in January.
this is pretty much apple's standard MBP update cycle for the decade..
an early year model.. a late year model (what you have).. then the next year, they do a mid year model (today's announcement)..

then the next year it's early then late etcetc.

Absolutely what I was thinking.
2013 I maxed out the 13": i7, 16 gig, 1terabyte SSD -> it was 2200 Euros, now it's maxed out around 3000 with student discount.

I really want a new 13" with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd. But when I looked at the prices I felt like a criminal. Apple has priced me out with their MBP prices.
I don't know how can anyone justify $1800 for a machine with 8GB ram and 255gb storage.

It will only be another 3 years.
The current price policy is ridiculous!

Could you ever feel 'ok' about parting with such a huge sum of cash for that thing? You were robbed! Not quite sure what you were thinking as it's a terrible purchase. The base model is so-so with a ridiculously high price point, I wouldn't feel quite as mugged paying for that as I would for paying for all the extras on top of an already obscene price point.

Still, if you're happy then that really is all that matters.

Do you have one? Not sure how I was robbed. It is awesome! If I cared only for specs, I would have a windows laptop.

i just wish the MacBook Air got a Thunderbolt 3 port...I'm still having issues getting used to this flatter keyboard of the '16 macbook pros. My 11"MBA was much easier to type on. But I like the connectivity and charging capabilities of the single TB3/USB-C connector offers.

Never in my life have I made as many typos on a keyboard as I have with the 2016 MacBook Pro. There's absolutely no feel to this keyboard whatsoever.

while the new iMac has a full complement of ports, you can spent twice as much on a MacBook Pro and still need a utility belt full of dongles because Apple stubbornly refuses to admit that people still use thumb drives, sd cards, presentation pointers, hdmi cables, and so on.

For me, i have had an i7 256GB SSD 8GB RAM Macbook air since mid 2012 [its the mid 2012 model], and its kinda crazy to see that the New Macbook maxes out at 512 for storage, which was an option then for the Air,in 2012 and they just added 16GB RAM today, but its STILL DDR3. Not to mention then 480P webcam which my mid 2012 Air has a 720P one.

All Macbooks should have 256GB SSD & 8GB RAM DDR4 as standard, phones now come with 128GB storage and some with 4GB ram..

The 13inch Macbook Pro presents the best entry level option other than the air, but the 128GB SSD is absurd, they put that in there to compensate for the better processor.

I want the new Macbook because it doesnt have fans, but still no DDR4 and no 1TB SSD option makes me think i should wait....again.

Aren't there updated standard graphics on all of them by definition because of the upgrade to Kaby Lake? Not a big upgrade obviously compared to the 15" maybe, but still significant.

The Iris 540/550/640/650 all have the same shaders.
Their only differentiating factors are 10% differences in clock speed and thew new HEVC-support for Kaby Lake.
Performance wise there won't be any difference bigger than the difference in GPU clock speed.

I wonder if this update for the Macbook Pro will even warrant iFix it to do a tear down to see what's inside. If it's just an update for Kaby Lake they might not even do a tear down. I hope they do since it might show if Apple has done anything to fix the keyboard issues some are having.

The excuse for Skylake 16GB limit was that it could t address more then 16GB and needed Kaby Lake to exceed that...

That's not true.
Both Skylake and Kaby Lake can handle more than 16 GB, the problem is that they only support LPDDR3 and DDR4.
DDR4 would allow for 64 GB, but is too space and power consuming. With LPDDR3 you are stuck at 16 GB.

All this is still true for Kaby Lake.
Next generation will bring LPDDR4 and with it comes support for 32 GB.

LOL
What were you expecting?
Apple is already late with Kaby Lake and honestly this update was very minor.
A price cut would have been a kick in the balls of any 2016 MBP owner, but they didn't cut the price.

13" nTB got a few MHz RAM speed and Kaby Lake + useless 128 GB version + price INCREASE of 256 GB version
13" TB got Kaby Lake.
15" got Kaby Lake + Polaris refresh (not a real difference in performance) + one step up in GPU tier which means about 15%

I'm not sure.

Intel has been doing some weird renaming and delaying with their CPU roadmap and is throwing around refreshs.
Current word is that there will be a Kaby Lake refresh called Coffee Lake with 6 cores 45 W CPUs and 4 Cores 15/18 W CPUs, so this one wouldn't support LPDDR4 because it's still using the same architecture.

If things go good LPDDR4 support is coming mid 2018 -> might be ready for 2018 MBP.
If things go bad LPDDR4 support is coming late 2018 / early 2019 -> might be ready for 2019 MBP.

Yah Intel is going through some weird issues right now, same with their Desktop CPUs as well.

I bought mine on November 2016. The new one features a minor CPU bump and that's it. Same crappy display same everything. Won't make a big difference specially when a MBA IMHO is either a complement to your main box OR something used for light work by students. Either way the difference is negligible.
