Has some issues.

"Has some issues"? There were major features REMOVED from the app, it's not like it was a new release with a few bugs here and there. And it was released with no announcement that those features would ever be added back in. Sometimes Apple does the rewrite/remove/add thing, but other times they remove features and never bring them back, or take years.

Example - how's that new version of Quicktime "pro" treating you? And how long ago were all the features stripped out when it got the 64 bit rewrite - wasn't that when 10.6 first shipped?

The reaction to the FCX release was pretty much the opposite of neurotic, it was perfectly appropriate for a botched release.

Kona 3G Still No Go

Just downloaded 10.0.3 but can't get output to the Kona 3G. I suspect AJA needs to release a patch. Didn't want to update the beta version of Kona software for earlier versions of X until I actually see some documentation on working with 3rd party PCIe and Thunderbolt devices.

Does anyone know how they do the text on text effect? So the phone # is on screen, and then additional text fades in above it? Is this a feature of FCPX?

Thanks for sending. Pretty rad & inspirational.

Ah so you were kidding this whole time... Okay you got me...

feedback

I don't mind people bitching about FCPX, but they should send Apple some feedback while they're at it. Let them know what is missing, if it's so freaking important. Apple doesn't troll these forums looking for feedback...well, maybe they do, but it's likely more effective to send it right to them.

Excited about the Chapter markers function in the Compressor update...I was shocked when that didn't work at release.

Ok, my friend just won a duPont for shooting and editing. He cut the show in Final Cut Pro 7, and is in the process of moving to Premiere. And my sphere isn't that little. You'll see by other posts in this thread that I'm not alone in my thinking or my experience with other editors. I'm sorry if you're overly sensitive to that fact.

Agreed.
Anyone who's read much at all about the pro's response to FCPX, you wouldn't argue with the fact that a LOT of professionals have left the platform or plan to.

I just don't get why some of these Apple fanboys get so defensive about that fact. It's like we actually are hurting their feelings by saying we've ditched FCPx.

Personally, where I work (large nationwide corporation) - this past summer our 3-year lease was coming up and we were all set to go with Final Cut X. Then we discovered it wasn't the upgrade from FCP7 were we all expecting, so now we've already made the decision to move to Avid. I personally was hoping they'd choose Premiere, since it's more like FCP7 (but 64-bit), but that's neither here nor there.

We've got a half dozen or so pro editors a my particular location, and they all think FCPX is a steaming pile. Not only that, they all have a lot of friends in the business who they chat with (on Facebook, etc) and the vast majority of them agree that FCPx ain't gonna cut it.

An example? OK- here's a clip we pumped out last summer in about 4 days. 3 camera shoot, multi format, & a client breathing down our neck. Graphics created in motion, seamlessly integrated into FCPX sequence.

BAM.

You need to redo that video ASAP as it has a glitch at 60s.
I assume it should say 'dont delay order today'
Instead it says 'don't delay order tch.....'
I don't mean to be rude, but I'd hardly hold that piece up as an example of how great FCPX is, even though I appreciate it was done in just a few days.

Here's the thing. FCP 7 is still being used widely. In fact, I use it regularly, and just wrapped two projects (one feature, one web series) using it. They haven't moved to Avid, Premiere, or FCP X yet because they've built a whole post-production workflow around 7. They may eventually move to something, but not until what they currently have no longer meets their needs.

Without OMF support and assignable audio tracks, FCP X is still just a shiny toy. This update is a great step in the right direction but it's still severely lacking in a great many ways.

I was also wondering why they have a guy in a business suit out in a field of weeds using his laptop. And the overuse of stock transitions. That video was craptastic across the board.

Please stop hurting my feelings. I am trying my best at life.

We're in the process of writing to Apple to obtain a refund for our purchase of FCPX. We've had projects revert back to previous versions, losing hours of editing. We've had transitions fail on export with no way of fixing them. We've had too many crashes...

We're a charity and can't afford to suck up the cost and wait for Apple to fix the issues.

Good luck with that. You are quite late for asking for the refund.

I'm not sure if you've said it yet or previously, where do you work? What sort of projects are you working on? Names of shows etc?

Freelance, former editor/videographer for Al Jazeera English, as well as freelance work for ABC News, CNN, currently working with World Health Organization, MacArthur Foundation, among others on internal pieces.

They never screwed us over, they just nuked the fridge and forced us to look elsewhere to invest our money in equipment and future roadmaps. We can adapt, but we can't keep using your product when you cut key professional features with no CLEAR roadmap as to when or if we'll get those features back. That being said, I'll play around with this, but my industry has already moved on, so it'll only do me any good on my personal projects.

I work in post and *no one* has moved to MC or Premier. No business person would make such a knee-jerk reaction such as that! FCP 7 didn't somehow stop working when FCPX came out... smh.

Anyone who has been in the business knows that new technology takes time to sort and out and don't jump on bandwagons or off bandwagons because of a product update.

FCPX *clearly* looks like a great way forward in terms of file based media. Add to that the implementation of Thunderbolt devices and you have very powerful platform. With feedback from us pros Apple has proven time and time again that they listen to their customers.

Completely agree.

FCP X has some faults but it's metadata tools, rough cutting and trimming tools are light years ahead of the competition. I can edit much faster in X than 7 now and I used 7 for 11 years.

There's no doubt FCPX is not for broadcast, but that does not mean it's not for professionals. Simply working in broadcast does not automatically qualify someone to refer to themselves as a "professional" editor. It offends every corporate, indie, education, artist, wedding videographer etc etc out there. FCPX (in its current form) is for non-broadcast professionals, in other words, the majority of Apple's FCP user base.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't look down on you. I was there once, but I question your vision of the future in terms of what is best for your customers and clients if you're working with tools that have no concrete future in your industry...
I didnt want to get involved but dont we all have the freedom to choose what we want.
Just like he had the choice to reply back to your negative comment.
Its an update folks not a cure for cancer.
Just to add, my production facility uses Avid MC and Premiere and FCP/FCPX.
They are all pencils and pens.
None of them change lives and how the future is shaped.

Last I checked its our work that gets the client to come back not the hardware/software :)

What I don't understand is why Apple didn't make it more clear they were going to add these features back. I understand their need for secrecy, but sometimes they seriously overdo it.

They did. It was said in the keynote. It was said in every article written about the initial release.

I sense confusion over Apple's shift in targeted market with Final Cut Pro.

Yes a lot of "professional" users shifted to AVID setups. How many people total is that? Several thousand?

Apple is now targeting millions of people; the pro-sumers, the wedding video guys, the people making YouTube shows, fan films, Freddie Wong-types.

I think Apple would rather sell its products to millions of customers than a few thousand (who endlessly bitch about everything Apple does regardless of what it is).

Why do you think the Mac Pro is getting nixed? They are simply not selling in any quantity that justifies the product line's continued existence (to Apple).
