Fair. I guess I am less interested in saying anything negative about Garageband and more interested in learning how widespread its use it.Well then you basically addressed your own question.
I believe they are too, the increased menu size, the large window padding in Big Sur would definitely suggest native touch input is on the horizon. Craig and the gang are denying and they are going to milk M1 on the old chassis for a while then when 2022 or 2024 comes, bam, our new Macs now include support for Touch. We have solved how to make touch natural and comfortable on a desktop and laptop. Craig will deny again, we are not trying to turn the Mac into an iPad, but saw it as a natural extension considering all M series Macs can run App Store apps and so many of our users are already familiar with iPads and iPhones, it was just the right time. That's because they are preparing to merge iPadOS with MacOS, even if all they do is deny it. iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard, switching Macs to ARM, subtle design language changes, running mobile apps on Mac... the merge is coming.
I was just wondering the same thing. Why didn’t they just use the iOS icons for pages, numbers, and keynote they already have? They are already recognizable and look so much better?View attachment 1663203
So much for consistency. What happened to the UI/UX team? Why didn’t they just use the iOS icons for pages, numbers, and keynote they already have? They are already recognizable and look so much better?View attachment 1663203

That and the good people have left Apple.Another “workin’ from home” situation.😐
I have not seen these screenshots before. That is truly horrendous. Violates all kinds of UX guidelines, such as keep the focus on the task at hand. Even Windows was never this bad.WOW, why did they decide to do this horrible translucent background around the document when zoomed out?
I don’t need to see anything beyond what I’m working on! 🤯🤯🤯
And this crazy ORANGE color in the menus??? My eyes constantly keep running away from my text to the menus. OMG WTH, it’s soooo distracting!!! 😱🤦♂️🤷♂️
You can adjust that in System Preferences, can‘t you?And this crazy ORANGE color in the menus???
You can change the accent color in system preferences if you don’t like the app’s default accent color.WOW, why did they decide to do this horrible translucent background around the document when zoomed out?

Speaking as someone who enjoyed Soundtrack and didn’t initially “get” GarageBand, I’ve found that it DOES expect you to know more and do more stuff, BUT it does provide some really fun times once you “get” it. And, since it’s been awhile, there’s been a TON of not-torturous YouTube tutorials created for it that can help you figure out how to do a thing when you get stuck. But whether it’s a total UI fail on GarageBand’s part (this is my presumption), or I don’t get how GarageBand is fundamentally different than Soundtrack was (aside from having greater capabilities for live instruments), or if GarageBand just isn’t designed to make loop-only songs at all, or maybe I’m just in a different place than I was 15 years ago... I’ve found myself on multiple, deja-vu occasions saying “Oh, this isn’t working; I give up. Man, I sure do miss Soundtrack.”
I also think they’re not going to do it. I don’t see anything that makes me think the Mac isn’t eventually going away. OR maaaaybe, possibly just decreasing sales down to the few million that need Macs to develop apps for iOS or run Pro Apps (I really think iOS will do these things eventually, but I could see it happening). I just see macOS as the “computer for those that are accustomed to mouse interfaces”. When people grew up with mice, they saw command lines as “lesser”. So, too, I think folks that grew up with touch will want products focused on touch. As folks who grew up on touch increase AND Apple continues to add Mac-like features to iOS/iPadOS, there will be less and less of a need for Macs at all.I’m sure you’ll turn out to be absolutely right on this, but dang, based on my experiences, I would pay extra money not to have a touchscreen on any computer that already has keyboard and mouse/trackpad.
Every laptop I have used (I’ve never owned one, however) that has a touchscreen provides an experience that is unnecessarily diminished/complicated by its inclusion, which seems to only be done on the basis that “we just gotta make the displays touchscreens, right?”
And I just don’t see even serial iconoclast Apple being able to resist this “logic” when every other manufacturers’ laptops all boast sexy, sexy (fingerprint greasy) touchscreens.
