Thank goodness they reintroduced the comments sidebar. Not sure what they were thinking with the rollover UI. Awful.

I completely agree about the iWork sidebar, but the ribbon in Word is even worse, IMO. No customization so I have to move back and forth between two tabs to use the only 3 functions I use. Also Word's performance is a lot worse.

While the MS Suite is probably the best suite out there, I hate the fact that they change the interface by every release. This week I got a new computer at work with the new W8 + office and I can start all over again, every f****ing function is now hidden in another place. Who in his right mind comes up with such a nonsense...and yes please don't tell me that you get used too it in 2 or 3 months; ridicules.

Tested. Pages still has problem processing tables copied from that Wikipedia site, while Mocrosoft word can paste it nearly correctly. I only need to resize the table and I am done. Pages? If I give that document to someone and say this is a table, few would believe me without knowing the source of that table. Pages in iCloud can be expected as an equally poor product when comparing it with Microsoft word online.

Only advantage of iWorks is the space consumption is much smaller than Microsoft office. For me.

Let me go back and use Microsoft office to do anything. Oh, maybe latex would be a powerful alternative.

Any chance of some useful features returning like Apple promised? We're nowhere near where iWork 09 was at.

I'll just continue using Office as always then.

A few of my Keynote presentations are refusing to open.

Make sure you have a backup before installing Keynote!!

I wish Apple would bring list view to the iOS versions.

What's the point of having a bunch of icons that tell me nothing when they're all text documents? They just take up space and make working inefficient.

And still no QuickLook. You can QuickLook with email attachments but not in Pages or Numbers. Ridiculous.

Quick look is implemented on the iPhone 6s via force touch

Eh, still no support for two pages view in OS X version of Pages and adding captions for pictures is still annoyingly hard.
In Microsoft Word or Libreoffice Writer it is easy, you simply right click on the image and “Insert Caption…”, enter text, click OK. Meanwhile in pages
Insert > Text Box. In the Wrap Inspector, set to Floating. Enter text. Adjust position. Select both photo and Text Box, then Arrange > Group and if you want the numbered captions all becomes even more complicated… Am I missing something?

Office is STILL a glitchy pile of **** on el capitan tho, whereas pages has been working flawlessly since day one even before this update.

Yeah, and by now we know the reasons why! Apple ****ed it up big time! Office 2016 will only run stable on the upcoming OS X 10.11.1 - go figure!

What are you talking about? Apps have to be updated to support Multitasking. Observe:

I've yet to encounter that for a single application running full screen. Granted I'm not using any Microsoft software

The iCloud Drive app functions somewhat like a file system but since you don't like iCloud for some weird reason (I have no syncing problems), I think Dropbox and Documents are excellent apps to try.

I don't have consistent connections to the Internet, and I'm just not into trusting my stuff to other people's machines. That's all. On top of that everything in iOS is laid out just about the same as it is in OS X, except it's hidden from the user for some reason. That's not a very nice what to treat your customer.

What is the reason? Microsoft just said they were working with Apple on a fix. It doesn't put the blame of either companies. If anything, this is mostly Microsoft's problem. Every release of Office they release and move away from are buggy and slow as crap. Heck, 2016 is still in 32 bit due to supposed plugin compatibility.
It's clear to me that they worked harder on the iOS version.

When Apple adds pivot tables to Numbers, I will happily dump Excel. Please!!!
Do you actually need "pivot tables" or will Numbers' "table categories" serve the purpose? Here's a video from 2010 that describes that feature. There are times when I need true pivot table functionality (and use Excel for that) but for everything else, tablet categories work well. In general, using iWork ('09 in particular) requires one to "think differently" than one would when working with MS Office, and one really needs to think completely differently when using Numbers. :)

I just tested that with iWork '09 Pages. copied and pasted perfectly. Even with a minor glitch on OSX Eric Clapton (crayon tab of the color chooser is wonky) it still works fine... though it is probably the last version of OSX that will allow iWork '09 to run properly.

So, in your case iWork works... You only make documents for yourself, in which case almost any word processor you want will work. But for the majority of the world, our documents must be shared with others. Which is why MS Office is the standard (for better or for worse).

Don't give me that nonsense. First not just ANY word processor will produce the style of documents that Pages can produce. Nice try and attempting to downplay Pages.

Also don't give me that nonsense about sharing documents. I work in an enterprise environment and more than 90% of the time docs get shared via PDF, (which is an industry standard for multiple platforms) which in case Pages can easily convert into PDF. Heck Apple's email system can save any email message into PDF. That's why PDF is the industry standard.

There's very little reason to share Word docs and it makes no sense to share them for 2 reasons. Microsoft's own changes in their software year after year cause Office to go into compatibility mode....JUST LIKE iWork HAS TO DO WHEN RECEIVING AN OFFICE DOC.
Receiving a Word doc from someone who has the older version of Office when you have the latest version of Office creates structuring issues.

Also there's no reason to share Word docs unless the recipient is going to modify them. Same with spreadsheets, most of the time they are sent for viewing only, not changes.

Nice try but it's painfully obvious you don't really work in an enterprise environment. The only thing that generally gets shared in business that's not a PDF is a PPT presentation, which in case Keynote works perfectly with that and is far better than PPT could ever be.

I have no problem paying for something that is a productivity standard, works on all my devices, looks great, consistently updated, has great features even if I don't use most of them. Plus, now that I have me a side business, that $9.99 is a business expense these days. Office is a stellar suite.

With Apple software, you simply don't know what they are going to do anymore. iWork STILL doesn't have the features iWork '09 did. It's simply not a priority or money maker like it is for Microsoft.

I use Apple for their hardware and OS. Microsoft for my productivity needs. Google for my online services. It's a trifecta and it works well.

We share them and work collaboratively all the time. I don't know where you work but that's not the way we have it in my organization.

Respectfully, there are many environments where you can't just send documents as PDFs, especially when collaborative work is being done. I support multiple clients who work in such environments and iWork is just not practical. Also Office is perfectly adept at opening .doc documents in pretty much every version - they look the same.

I really like iWork - I use it for all my work, but there are compatibility issues that keep it unpractical for many. iWork is also missing things that Office has, that many people need for their work.

All I noticed or cared about in the update notes was:
'Open Pages '08 and '06 documents'

FINALLY
But, it's probably too late, as any documents that old have probably either been lost, or already migrated using Pages '09.

This was the major hold-off for me, since I never upgraded from '08 to '09 so I didn't have any way to open any of my existing files.

I tested it with the iCloud version and was finally able to open '08 files.
Strange that you can't change page margins in the iCloud version??? That doesn't hold true to the OSX version correct?

Neither myself or anyone else here that I can see has suggested or stated that iWork was perfectly suitable for a MS Office replacement in an enterprise environment. I was only referring to sharing industry standard documents and it's not common that docs are passed around companies for everyone to modify. As you stated, "Collaboration". That's generally done on small teams. Once again, I never said that companies should use iWork to replace MS Office.

Just one table from Wikipedia is enough for me to nearly permanently abandon iWorks, even they are free.

And Apple own PDF engine can generate decent PDF documents for viewing purpose. But not for printing. I bet in enterprise environment, Document printing is still a need, for archive purpose, for example.

Don't want to comment about keynotes but I don't think keynotes would overcome PowerPoint that much.
