Well, there is an option to upgrade the MBA's ram to 4gig. I guess it was intentionally left out to lower its price to the point where it can serve as a viable alternative price-wise to the normal macbook.

1.7 Ghz? haha i remember buying a 2.4 white back in 2008 why would anyone subject themselves to such a slow processor

Just to be clear before I make that hour drive to New Orleans, this will be available in the retail stores when they open today, right?

I think losing the White MacBook is a great shame. For the the same price (Apple's new entry-level notebook) the air has a smaller screen, no CD/DVD, and less than half the Hardrive.

I think for the average consumer looking to get a basic mac notebook, this is bad news.. . . . Even my mum uses more than 64gb Hd space! And I can't imagine she would be too happy using the 11 inch screen either, or loosing the ability to import and burn from CD.

Suddenly the base price for a mac laptop with what can be called standard/basic/expected features just went up £250?!?!?!?!?!?!

Thank you!
MacBook Air 11", 1.8 GHz i7 and 256GB SSD. Lovely! I'll be waiting by the door!

Not impressed with this update. $1k should get 128ssd/4gb. Still 5hr battery/SD-slotless means traveling with more accessories, dealbreaker.

It's odd that they did in the base model, especially because it cannot be configured with two HDD's. The other models can be, so that makes sense.

I see... you can get an SSD+HDD in the non-server version as well....

Negative.

They are available ONLINE today (Wednesday).

They will be available TOMORROW (Thursday) in stores.

No FaceTimeHD? What the heck!

A fabulous new machine, horribly marred only by its lack of a FaceTimeHD camera. Which makes one wonder if Apple will continue using sub-par cameras in the next iPad revision too.

LOL - anything to excuse Apple being cheap in their base builds. Sorry, but the price difference is very hard to ignore. I doubt it cost Apple all that much to add it. Face it, they do that to get people to step up to the model with even more of a margin.

Anything to excuse Apple ? Who do you think you're talking to ? They call me a Anti-Apple hater here. So no, I'm not making up excuses.

If the price difference is very hard to ignore, then you are not the target audience for the MacBook Air. For me, the choice was simple back in 2010. I wanted light and thin because I carry this thing around on my back with tons of other stuff.

The MBA was the cheapest option then in that form factor.

i just realise recovery lion dun come in cd or flash drive anymore.... its built in...meaning u have even less disk space -.-"

The only thing I was hoping for was better battery life. It's a solid update, but without better battery life, it's not compelling enough for me to upgrade my October 2010 11" MBA.

White MacBook

I prefer the white MacBook to the Pro, even setting price aside. I think it looks better and feels better - especially on a cold day when you almost need gloves to use a Pro.

As Apple design gets increasingly functional and boring, the MacBook felt a little friendlier and I'm sad it's going.
