Why would you suggest such a dangerous situation?!! Don’t you know if you were able to use the mouse while plugged in, then many people would leave it plugged in all the time, leading to the battery not charging properly and possible resulting in an incendiary condition that could destroy everything and everyone that you love?!! Only Apple has the courage to protect their valuable source of services revenue by protecting their users in such a brave manner!

Apple very often prioritise astethics which is great. Just look at how ugly some of the hybrid mouses look while being wireless. Its beauty is comparable to an American strip mall.

Yes, happened with me today. The mouse went out of battery, but then simply plugging in the USB-C cable allowed me to continue the mouse while it is being charged at the same time.

So why didn't the OS tell you about the mouse being low on battery?

I think people just don't think about charging their mice at large. I certainly don't - I find myself wondering why my (not magic) mouse stops working every other week, then looking for a cable to charge it. Sort of like forgetting to charge your airpods - it's not at the front of the mind like charging a phone is.

But aren't you warned by the OS before it happens?
Just charge it when you're done after you receive the warning.

I was hoping for at least one of the following features on the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, in addition to USB-C:
  • A dark aluminum option, like on the 2017 Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad
  • Backlit keys
  • Inverted-T arrow keys
  • A detachable numeric keypad that plugs into the right of the keyboard proper
Disappointed that we didn't get any of those things. Guess I'll be looking elsewhere for my next keyboard, which is a shame because Touch ID is really quite handy.

USB-C on the Magic devices, Apple’s big “innovation” moment. Because changing a port is the height of progress now. LOL. I wonder if they bothered to upgrade the Bluetooth chip?

I have an MX Master for my PC.

I would rather be caught naked in the park than use it while it is charging.

Nobody does it. PC users are even more fanatic about hiding cables than Mac designers. They literally buy cable ties and stuff to hide every cable.

PC Gaming community: Hold my beer…

And who’s talking about keeping the charging cable strewn across my desk? Just great to have the option to connect it when a charge is needed and not have to stop working.

What kind of Mac and keyboard are you using?
Im using a MBP M1 Max and the keyboard without numberpad but with fingerprint reader, and I DO NOT get any warning.
I used to do on my iMac and now it does it on my mac mini.

I have exactly this mouse and I'll tell you one thing: every time I charge it and start using it while it's charging I remember how much this cable is annoying and inconvenient. I try to charge it when I'm not using it or I charge it briefly and unplug it.

I had the MM for a few months and it's funny how the charging problem is exaggerated in the mainstream. I gave up on the MM because it was uncomfortable to hold the mouse, among other things because of its edges. The second issue was the polling rate which was too low and not really suitable for working with graphics. Turning the mouse over for a few hours every few weeks was one of the lowest priorities for returning it.
I guess that mouse is fine for casual use. MX master connected to the wire is annoying, agree. But if you are on the call presenting you need this mouse working in this very moment. Also I would be ok if new mx master came out, good mouse.

Just give me a good damn black magic keyboard with USB-C and no numpad. Been waiting so many years wtf

Sure, something like this can happen, but once again - what are the chances of that? It charges once a month, so you only have 12 chances of this happening a year. Really exaggerating a minimal problem. Charge for a few minutes and you have a few hours of work.

Folks that have had this mouse a while I'm sure have developed a routine of some sort of charging. Every two week reminder on calendar, Friday end of day plug it in and go home, etc. I have used one for years and managed to never have the battery run out on me while working. Seems like mountain out of a mole hill scenario. If you have a clever retort, save it. This is my experience.

This feels like the AirPods Max....years with no real updates and just USB-C.

The biggest disappointment is no inverted arrow keys, no backlight, black only on the larger keyboard (except for the iMacs which you can't buy standalone), no multiple device pairing, no wireless charging on Magic Mouse to get rid of the cable charging etc....

No that I am surprised, these are just the many small things really bothering a lot of us...Apple does very small updates years apart that are so minor and then you have to wait years again (and still may not get it).

Anyone know what this key is for on the new keyboard?
