The F3 symbol is kind of ugly without the border and F4... not very inventive?

yea i would prefer something a bit more intuitive, i mean its mission control, that sounds awesome so give it a logo that defines that instead of an 8 bit graphic

when are these bad boys getting back-lighting?

I’ve always thought black keys would look better with the black iMac. Lighted or not.

Apple’s Macs have been silver and black for a long time now. White is gone (execption made for the lighted logo). It’s time for the keyboard--and mouse--to catch up!

(I kind of like Apple’s white cables for some reason. I’m OK with white cords, and even chargers/docks/Airport, just make the hardware on our desks all match, please. Black, not white!)

I'm interested if these new keyboards will also include the horrible built-in "caps lock delay".

Current apple keyboards (both standalone and in notebooks) have a delay for caps lock when you hit the key. If you tap it for less than a 1/10 of a second or something, then it doesn't activate.

For fast typers, it's a nightmare. There are SO many times that I quickly hit caps lock and it doesn't get turned on. I wish it were just a preference option instead of making it built-in to the hardware.

Hopefully these new keyboards don't still have that (not that I can afford to buy a new Apple keyboard just for that, though)

Apple considers that a feature. Apparently quite a large number of users who are not as skilled as you on a keyboard accidentally hit the caps lock key on a fairly regular basis.

My own use of the caps lock key is rare and I can't remember ever hitting it by mistake.

It's just another space before your Desktop 1 space, so swipe accordingly and you're there.

Yes but what if I'm not on Space 1 but on Space 6? Then I have to swipe 6 times! Yes, I can enter Mission Control with a 3-finger swipe up, and then I can click on Dashboard, that's faster, but pressing a single button is still the fastest.

You could set up a hot corner.

Disclaimer: I hate hot corners.

Why is the F5 key blank?
IIRC, it always has been blank. That just means it's not assigned as a specific hot key (with function keys turned off). Probably because many browsers use F5 as "refresh".

For example, I have the function keys turned off because we use the previous/play/next/mute/vol down/vol up keys on our desktop Mac, but F5 can continue to function as "refresh" from inside of Firefox.

Ah thinking about it this could be because it doesnt have a backlit keyboard. As on Apple's portable options this gives the user the chance to turn the brightness down.

While we're all on about things we hate about Apple's keyboards - why no hotkey for 'Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys'?. Somewhere along the line this functionality changed, because my MacBook Pro used to treat its own keys as Mac-specific and the plugged-in USB keyboard as function keys - great for business use (Parallels, etc.). It doesn't anymore

Oh, and off-topic I know, anyone else think Mission Control's implementation of Spaces is completely broken when using multiple monitors? :(

Good catch. Though a backlit standalone keyboard would be nice, if only on the USB version.

I'm waiting for them to change British keyboards so the option key actually has "option" written on it.

I've never understood why they don't write "control" and "option" on the British keyboards, when all of their website instructions etc use those terms. We finally got "cmd" a couple of years ago, but the option key still says "alt".

The thing I like about the british keyboard is that

The "tab" key is a -->|
The capslock key is an upward arrow with line
the shift key is an upward arrow
The delete key is a <---
The enter/return key is a loopy arrow.

I'm not saying the US keyboard is bad, but change is nice after looking at the US layout for a long time.

I do, however, like how they spell out "control, option, and command" on the US keyboard. I just think that the arrows a bit cooler than spelling out the functions :D

The new keyboard works whether you are on Windows, OS X or Linux. What doesn't work is the hooks for OS X on Windows or Linux.

That's been true or quite some time.

My older version of this model works great under Xorg latest for the volume controls and some of the other function keys, but not all of them.

Big deal. Great keyboard for various platforms, but best on OS X.

1. Do the bluetooth wireless keyboards work with ipads?
2. I never understood the need for Caps Lock either... Nobody likes all caps writing.
3. I would pay for a wireless backlit keyboard with the numberpad intact.

4. I recently began to transition from a wired to the wireless that came with my new mac (old wired one is pretty yellow at this point) and the ONE thing I wish I could change is the disturbing absence of the proper "delete" key. I hate hate hate using the "delete" key that actually functions as a "Backspace" key on the wireless keyboard. Just stupid.

I can see why they do it, because hitting caps on accident is annoying. But they should put a toggle checkbox on the system prefs under keyboard...

Great. I never realized that until you pointed it out. Now I'm going to mess up when typing all caps.

At least I'll know it's the keyboard and not just that I missed the key.

I just bought the wired keyboard last week (for use with a new gaming PC) and I am also going to be using it on a new Lion based MacBook Air. Do you think it's worth returning the keyboard and getting the "new" one. I'm 11 days into the 14 day return window so I could return it if I wanted.

Why are people asking for backlighting on a WHITE keyed keyboard?

You could be in a black hole...and as long as that keyboard is in front of a monitor, you will be able to see the keys...

In fact, the light shining through the letters on the white keys would make the letters white on white...meaning you couldn't see what key was what..

That's fail.

What if you want to type '#'?

Shift 3 has been # for a few years now and I certainly need # more than £. This will be harder for me than learning command-shift-n for new folder!!!

I reject the change.
