Wonder how long it will be before these a widely available? February, March??

I would think December. The supply constraint was just all marketing. There's no way Apple will limit their own supply during holiday season, they're not stupid.

I'm too tired to read through all the comments, but when I placed my pre-order at 12:30 AM, the lead time showed 3 to 4 weeks, but the system locked-up with a notation ' try again in a few minutes.' When the system allowed me to proceed at 12:40 AM, it had changed to 4 to 5 weeks.
Apparently, since I purchased without a finance plan, there doesn't appear to be an option for the order delivery to change. The current email notation reads:
Thank you for your order.
We’ll let you know when your items are on their way.
Order Number: xxxxxxx
Ordered on: Oct 27, 2017

Same here. What a bummer. I got that stupid splash screen for 10 minutes on two different devices past 12:01am PST.
same. on two devices using the  store app on both and browsers on the  website. bashing refresh from midnight on...didn’t get past the splash screen until 10 after.  has had it together for the last few years on launch day; not this time. nov. 17-24 t-mob 256 sg x2. (i even practiced the check-out sequence with the iphone 8s from my saved “favorites” to make sure my X game was on point for launch day.) i’m guessing the brains behind the red dot on my lte  watch were in charge of the e-com  store for launch day.

I called EE about 2 hours after the preorders went live, they told me I was one of the first people to call, they have many in stock and haven't had much interest over the phone at least. I got right through as well, I called and instant divert...

I would not be surprised if Apple are created false demand to get the hype going, we'll see when the sales figures come out.

The key word missing from the title is T-Mobile. Preorders from other carriers have not seen such improvement. :)

And “US customers” right? I’ve not heard of any UK orders (or orders in other countries) being bumped in this way.

Sounds like a lot of oh crap buyers remorse how much have I just spent people cancelling their orders when reality sinks in.

Originally Nov 10-17. Moved to Nov 3rd this afternoon. Now ready to ship.

i ordered 2 64gb within the 12min window, still saying 2-3 weeks for Aussie customer, more curious to when Apple will fully charge my bank card... the only thing i have noticed is a $1 charge from Apple?

Really? Ordered here in Hong Kong. Delivery 2-9 December! And they already took all payment from credit card

I got screwed their website didnt come up for 15 minutes for me so i got 28th November. Im pretty much over it. Not going to play the queuing game with apple anymore.

Apple pulled a Nintendo, they toyed with availability to create the impression of increased demand. The 8 was a flop, so they had to do something, can't blame them, it's a smart move. But, not an honest one.

Totally agree, they'll be keeping their fingers crossed that there's big queues of people outside their stores too!

I can see people with a 5-6 week wait getting their phones much sooner - probably bring forward those delivery dates shortly after release day.

I was on the phone at 8am to EE and they had 20 people on the phone ordering at that very moment

No changes here yet. I don't expect a launch date but at least gaining 1 week.
Hopefully this shift applies to international markets as well!

Uhh, this is a tech forum. You may want to take your lecture elsewhere.
Then I want to thank you tech people (on behalf of Tim) for paying your $600 premium for outrageous buildings, malls, parks, Town Squares, headphone companies, radio DJ's, rappers, sophisticated doorlocks, self(non-)driving cars and then, stockpiling of 50% pure excess cash (before or after tax, it hardly matters)
I'm through with it. That iPhone X, with all its compromises, is worth $600 max. and I can wait another year to pick it up secondhand somewhere (preferably at someone's unpretentious, private home)

That is nonsensical. Everyone who bought last night bought because they wanted one and preferably on launch day, not because there was some illusion they were going to be rare. I don’t think you understand the consequences if Apple doesn’t beat 1Q revenue because it “toyed with availability.” This is Apple’s main source of income. And putting its thumb on the spigot only hurts itself.

Consumers are not so dumb or rich that they are going to buy anything just because it’s perceived to be popular or hard to get. If that were the case AW would have been a monster hit out of the gate instead of it needing years and several iterations. We still have no idea what demand either way for the X is. Early adopters rushing in is nothing new and tells us zero about long term.

There were long lines for the original iPhone. Quite a spectacle. It was the “Jesus phone.” But weeks later Apple had to adjust the price because it was priced more than most consumers were willing to spend on a phone at the time. Early demand is not an indication of long term success. The product must be good and priced right. Well soon find out if that’s the X. Too soon for any conclusion.

Well 20 isn't a lot, but the guy told me at 10ish that I was one of the first (may he's had?) and there is no shortage of phones. I got an order for the 3rd of November for the Silver 256GB one, just because it matches my SS watch with the white band.

I think the demand for a £1000+ phone isn't going to be as high as they're making you believe. Which obviously they do want to generate hype and tell people they better order quick, they want to generate excitement. I doubt the sales will be higher than the iPhone 8 however... but I do think Apple are starting to stretch people out over a bigger lineup of phones. Their way of making low end, mid ranged and high end is selling you old flagships.... which is a good way of doing it. It means they can recycle and two year old flagships are still better than this years midrange.

They do if they're on the fence, they don't if they never cared in the first place or haven't got the money. However the scalpers are the ones who will buy a load, Apple doesn't care who buys them. I think the Scalpers are going to find themselves with a lot of phones they cannot shift for cost prices.

It's impossible to say at this stage until the numbers are released.

either apple have alot more stock than they let on to build more hype or the limited amount not as many have ordered. I think x plus the iPhone 8 orders will still be the best selling phone by a big margin yet again but hard to know the true figures.

if a high amount off people do get theirs on the 3rd then maybe the demand is lower. Or the reason why apple delayed the release over a month later than the 8 was to get a high amount of stock ready in time.

Regarding your first statement, that’s not my experience. Typically consumers will not buy something if they are undecided, especially if the price is more than $100. There is a small number of impulse buyers. They will buy because it’s the hot thing. But those shoppers have other issues going on. There impulsively is a symptom of a larger personal problem.

Regarding your latter statement it’s true some buyers are scalpers. Eventually those phones end up in users hands or are returned. That goes direct to my point that we have to let the fog clear before we know if X is a certified hit or miss. Yesterday and next week tell us little to make any decent conclusions about X.
