no email, yet, but the Disney movies I have show up as 4k ... Thank You Apple/Disney.
Need to go now and get that 4k TV

When I look at my Disney movies in the iTunes Store app, they show 4k. But when I look at them in the Apple TV app, they still show HD. Hmm... 🤔

Seems to only apply to movies originally purchased in HD. SD copies have been upgraded to HD, but not 4K HDR. Hardly a complaint, though. 1080p looks better than the 480p versions I originally had.
My copy of Nightmare Before Christmas has not be auto upgraded to HD???
That’s a Disney product.

Its hard to tell exactly what’s happening. I had a couple of SD movies I’ve owned since before iTunes had HD movies. They definitely play in HD, but not HDR. Not sure how Apple decides what version to stream or allow me to download.

Maybe they gave people who bought when SD was the only option a freebie, but people who intentionally chose the SD version when the HD was also available. (Cheaper), I think that’s what I did 9 years ago with Nightmare Before Christmas.

Great. Now I can buy Disney’s without hesitation. (Looking at you all new Star Wars)

Could be. Or, maybe it's just taking some time to roll out to everyone.

Have you tried actually streaming it from an Apple TV or the Apple TV app on a television?

Important note to remember: iTunes 4K is streaming only. While HD can be downloaded to a computer with the iTunes app.

Not that I care, I'm glad that my iTunes Disney range is now available (to stream) in 4K.
I’m not sure that is true any more. On an iPad Pro if you go to TV in Settings there is a setting called Download Options. If you go to Wi-Fi you can choose High Quality and there is a note that says both settings include 4K and HDR where available. I haven’t checked on macOS yet.

In 4K here now (Canada). Can see in details but movies are not listed under “4K HDR” section. Anyone else?

Thank you Apple and Disney! Moves like this really help the viability of purchasing digital content. I have almost 800 iTunes movies and it's so nice to have them upgraded instead of the old days where you would at various points be faced with a tough decision of whether to live with your old format (along with the mess of hardware and cables to play them) or invest obscene amounts of money upgrading. I went through this with VHS/S-VHS > Laserdisc > DVD > HD-DVD > Blu-Ray and basically just gave up, it wasn't worth it anymore.

Because I now have some confidence in post-purchase improvements, I actually end up buying a lot more movies than I would on any physical format, which works out well for everyone. Add to that you have access to every movie you own at all times on every device, with no need to store or move physical media (not trivial with a large collection), and ease of finding content by searching/browsing. I can never go back to the old way, it's like going back to using a typewriter or something.

By the way, be patient with the upgrades, I've noticed with previous iTunes 4K/HDR upgrades, it sometimes takes a while for them to all propagate through the system, sometimes days, and sometimes they go back and forth (upgraded/not upgrade) a few times before settling down.

It’s HDR and Dolby Atmos, not HDR and 4K.

Most of my purchases were digital codes redeemed in iTunes or movies anywhere when I purchased a Blu-ray or DVD. So far none of them are showing up as 4K but the audio has been upgraded on almost all of them.

Same here, but many of the MA ones were 4K codes which showed up in iTunes as HD. Now most are UHD.

I had some everything in iTunes HD. I bought some some 4K titles elsewhere over the past few years. Now those are showing up as HD in my library while everything is is 4K.

So yea any movie that I got via a code or linked from another service won’t show up as 4K even if it’s available as such
