So I have an iPhone Xs Max and Apple Watch Series 6. If i were upgrading my watch from say S4 then I'd be ok with getting a 7. Upgrade from Xs Pro Max to iPhone 13 Pro Max is definitely worth it, as with the watch though, if I had a 12 I don't think it'd be worth it.

As a mini user, I only upgraded because the 13 mini has a noticeably better battery and with Apple rumoured to be not releasing a 14 mini I thought I'd just get the most recent mini to last me for at least a couple of years (unless Apple release a flip phone or something else with a smaller form factor than a standard iPhone.

If the battery had been better on the 12 mini, or if rumours were strong that there would be a '14 mini', I'd have stuck with the 12 mini for another year instead of upgrading.

I had the 3G and upgraded every year until the X, as the product category matured. Normal people don't care about annual updates, nor should they. But when they do get a new phone after 2-4 years, it will have great stuff.

This poll was almost believable until it claimed more than a single person said “doesn’t have rumored WiFi 6e connectivity” as a reason for not upgrading.
Also, "no support for rumored satellite communications" as if Apple has ever been first to offer something like that.

I think the general agreement with the iPhone mini is that people want a mini pro. Small screen with the same specs as the max.
If Apple were to keep making them, the mini would catch up to the Pro models. It just takes a little longer for the tech to get small enough to fit into that form factor. The 13 mini got the active stabilization that was only on the Pro models before. So it happens, just with a delay.

I mean isn’t this just a matter of perspective and subjective opinions? For example with myself as an iPhone 11 user, I thought the 13 Pro was amazing and I couldn’t wait to upgrade which I did on day 1.

As a Series 5 watch owner, I’m not impressed by the Series 7 watch. But Someone who has a S0-S4 might find the S7 very enticing.

If you are someone who upgrades every year then sure these are all very incremental upgrades. That doesn’t mean they aren’t giant leaps forwards for people who upgrade every few years or so.
You are right. It is all subjective and outside of the company, rather meaningless for all intent and purposes. Things like the survey matter to those who prefer to have others tell them how to feel and what to buy etc.

They also need to be more controlled about what they release. If they can't fit something in the mini pro they need to leave it out of the pro max. That was one of Steves's brilliance when he returned to Apple. Simplify the offerings and make the choice come down to one or two features.

Yeah I must admit, I've never been one to upgrade every year but even going from the XS to the 13 I'm not seeing lots of new features or benefits. The only improvements I have really noticed so far are the wide angle rear camera and the better quality front camera. I mainly upgraded because my XS was 3 years old so likely to start going wrong any time soon. I remember iPhone upgrades used to be exciting and packed with new features.

i think it’s because all the other manufactures are making their devices whole numbers and if  keeps the same number as the previous year and adds an S it may make it seem like it’s not a big upgrade.

Yep. I don't think we'll be seeing an "S" phone ever again. It's better marketing to have a new number every year.

Eventually, the number gets so large it needs to be rebranded. Adding an S would extend the life of the iPhone name.

So iPhone 13 Pro Max user here (upgraded from 12 PM) . I too was underwhelmed UNTIL I actually got the darn thing. It's AMAZING ( and reviews point the same way) Can't knock it til you try it. Not having to charge my phone ALL DAY...macro photos. ... C'mon son.

I am also coming from a 12 Pro and totally agree. My 13 Pro is head and shoulders a better device.

Totally. Same upgrade path here. The difference from the 11 to the 13 is significant and I love this thing.

The display is beautiful, the battery life is way, way longer and the phone is super fast. Those three factors alone really enhance one’s use of the device.

Let's be honest here, how can ANY consumer device that gets updated every year be deemed 'exciting' every single year? Most phone/computer/tv etc manufacturer release new products every single year but it's normally not a for a few cycles that the next truly exciting one occurs. That's just the nature of iterative and incremental tech developments.
