I think if there were launch issues with the original flat edge Apple watch series 7, they should just hold the announcements instead of giving a non update updates.

Apple no longer has to blow everyone’s mind every year. There’s now so many generations of iPhone users that people upgrading from an older series can drive sales. I stopped upgrading yearly with the 10X. I have no date to prove it, but I suspect most iPhone users are not forum fanatics like we are. Apple sales have to be mostly people coming from ”older” models where the changes seems more like an actual upgrade.

5K doesn't sound like a large sample size if it's simple the user base of one site where people buy/sell used iPhones as that is all a specific type of person, vs a real randomized survey. So I'd take it a the thoughts and feelings over that site' s user base rather than actual public.

That all being said, this is an S year where things are more minor. The battery life is pretty big for the new iPhones but for people who didn't run out of battery life before then that is probably less of a selling point. For the Apple watch, this year the upgrade doesnt seem minor even for minor watch years. The charging speed boost is a nice benefit, but since most charge over night probably not a real real world benefit for most. The slightly larger screen is the most notable improvement but not sure that small size difference will make much of any practical difference other than the keyboard but imagine that won't be used very much by most. Certainly no, always on screen or GPS type of improvement, but struggle to see even small benefits. I upgrade ever year since I use my Apple devices so much so any improvement is worth it, but if anyone of my non tech friends or family asked if they should upgrade their apple watch that would be a hard no, same with the phone, unless they were due for an upgrade.

This poll was almost believable until it claimed more than a single person said “doesn’t have rumored WiFi 6e connectivity” as a reason for not upgrading.
I mean, I upgraded despite the lack of 6e support and was disappointed that I won't have a device that supports 6e for a while. But there's no way 19.5% of those respondents even known what Wi-Fi 6e is.

This is the case every year. People don't realize that it's not realistic to upgrade every year.

As MKBHD said, people don't buy the newest car model every year, they hold on for years.
The other aspect is that too many people have the misguided notion that it is Apple'e responsibility to entertain them and "wow" them with each update. And when those false expectations aren't met, you start seeing the underwhelmed comments as well as comments about being bored with the design, courage, and all the other meaningless trite drivel that flows from many of the threads.

They probably should have called it a 12S to temper expectations, but I'm really looking forward to mine as a phone that just gets the basics even better than before.

You have to wonder, what will the situation be like in another 10 years?
Can't really imagine there would be any upgrade around then that could mean anything much.
Normal people won't really every need a new phone unless their old one breaks.

Perhaps we'll be doing this upgrading with headsets by then?

Lack of 3D Touch has killed it for me since Xs. The bulkiness and the hard edges I could live with because of the cameras in the Pro but that 3D Touch is the single most productivity enhancing feature of my phone, and I couldn’t imagine living without it.
So, due to battery degradation on my current one, I’m in the market for a new Xs - which here in Denmark sell at the same price as the 13 Pros 🙈

That’s what they said about the first chain driven bicycles 😅

I think the general agreement with the iPhone mini is that people want a mini pro. Small screen with the same specs as the max.
I'd even take a 5.6" Pro mini as a compromise option. The 5.8" X/XS are just too large and too heavy, let alone the larger and heavier 12 and 13 Pros.

I'm really disappointed that the ProMotion displays are only available on large, heavy phones. I enjoyed and used most of the more advanced camera features, especially the telephoto lens, on my iPhone X. It's infuriating that Apple forces those of us who simply don't want to carry lead bricks in our pockets to accept less.

While I like my 13 mini, it remains frustrating that Apple released the lesser, gimped version of the iPhone that we actually wanted. Then when it didn't sell well because it was lacking the features everybody who is in the market for it wanted, everyone declared "see, nobody wants a smaller phone."

In reality, most of us wanted an iPhone Pro mini with the telephoto lens, ProMotion display, and macro focus support. I would've paid $1249 for that. That's what my iPhone X cost 4 years ago, and it was well worth it. It just would've been nice to get it in a reasonably sized package.

I only upgrade Apple iphones and iPads every 3rd or 4th year. It isn’t like Apple ever makes serious upgrades to their devices anyway. You can easily go 3 or more years before the improvements are worth the cash you will have to shell out. If Apple doesn’t start squashing the bugs pretty quick, I might stop upgrading completely. As far as Macs go, I only upgrade them once in 5+ years. They are just too damn expensive for what you get.

So, did they do a MacRumors poll or Reddit poll? That’s not even 1% of iPhone owners in the US. There’s no conclusion you can draw from this that is valid and sound.

Such fluff.
Anything above ~1000 makes no statistical difference no matter the size of the population (look up the math, it’s solid) - so 5000 is actually way overdoing it 🤷🏽‍♂️🤓

Hilarious! People who don't have the new phones are underwhelmed by them!! I'm underwhelmed by the survey!🍸😹. By the way, the photographer who posted the bee photo ... thank you, as an opportunistic bee photographer that is EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW!

From what I've read about it, sample sizes significantly larger than 1,000 can actually introduce inaccuracies. As odd as it may sound, a 1K sample size can produce more accurate survey results when extrapolated than 5K.
