Apple Users Underwhelmed by iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7, Survey Shows

Big surprise, and I agree they should have just called it a 12s and that would have toned down a lot of the criticism.
I used a 13 pro max yesterday for a few hours, the funny thing is I mistook it for a 12 because the animations seemed to stutter so I thought oh ok no promotion this is a 12. Only once I was playing around with the camera did I notice the zoom said 3x did I realize it was a 13. Underwhelming is an understatement, the cameras are also seriously disappointing, the competition is so good and Apple is acting like they are the only game in town. Apple needs to learn the hard way, if they can lose a fanboy like me who used worship Apple they are doing something wrong.

I wonder why they didn't call it an iPhone 12S. Wasn't the last time they used the 'S' was with the Xs?
It’s almost certainly a marketing thing. Calling out the phone as being only moderately iterative by staying on the same number doesn’t sell as many phones as rolling it up one.

The vast majority of the iPhone user base does not follow iPhone upgrades from year to year. They just get a new iPhone when theirs doesn’t work anymore. Surveys like this two weeks after an iPhone launches are useless, especially ones with such suspect criteria as someone else mentioned.

If I ordered an iPhone 13 today it wouldn’t be here until November. And that’s not because there aren’t any to ship, it’s because they can’t make them fast enough now that their initial supply is gone. Just like every year.

I came from an X. I'll be honest its still a bit meh for what I use it for. Its snappier, camera is ok but not game changing for the quick snaps I take. Smaller notch is at least perceived taller and I'd personally have made it wider and less tall or got rid of it completely with a thin bezel at the top, since some apps still struggle to build an interface around it.

I hate the weight and perceived size. I say perceived because its not much bigger than the X, but it feels much thicker. I think its the squared off sides. It literally feels like a brick. Was torn between pro and mini, went pro because I use it more than most devices for browsing when out and about.

I do love the battery life though its mega compared to X.

Ultimately X was getting a bit old and started to play up a bit so I just bought the new model. I didn't really do it just because the 13 was out

Yeah… I really don’t care what a survey says. It’s entirely subjective based on everybody’s opinion of what device someone is upgrading from. I will say though, macro mode on the iPhone 13 Pro-Max, really is amazing in terms of the intricate detail that it captures.

I think the general agreement with the iPhone mini is that people want a mini pro. Small screen with the same specs as the max.
Exactly this for me. I bought the mini cuz the camera upgrade was good enough with the form factor I prefer. However, I would gladly pay more for the pro camera set up on that small form factor. I don’t know if they could pull it off with the space limitations but oh well. If there was no mini I would’ve bought the standard pro so apple’s spreadsheet wizards probably think what’s the point of the mini.

Really, one miserable day of battery life for a watch is just a joke.

Yeah but you forget that that watch is a smart watch it does more than just tell the time. That costs energy, and well honestly 18 hours of battery life is quite amazing for it having such a small battery, and remember that's with constant functionality etc (yeah I know regular watches have battery life of over a year, but then again, most of those said watches do no more than tell time.).

If it was worth it for me to upgrade to the S7, I think it's pretty amazing you can get an 8 hour charge with 45 minutes, wish my S6 could do that.

Coming from an iPhone 11 I am pleased with my 13 Pro. But, this survey simply reflects reality: there isn’t much to get excited about these days. iPhones are amazing and it wound be foolish to expect some knock-your-socks-off new features every 12 months.
This right here x eleventybillion.

I'm on the iPhone Upgrade Program so I replace every year regardless of how much or how little they do.

And I consider the "S" to be a silly nomenclature (I believe they added "S" to the 3GS to note it had faster 3G speeds) so I prefer they just increment the number each year regardless of feature set additions. Though if they had not burned "C" with the 5C, they could replace "S" with "C" for "Camera" since that is the one thing that does see significant year-on-year updates.

As for Apple Watch, I go Stainless Steel so I like to wait at least 3-4 generations (S0 to S4 and S4 to S8) to maximize the value.
I think every carrier has an upgrade program that the vast majority are part of. You don’t have to upgrade annually. It’s optional. Lol

So iPhone 13 Pro Max user here (upgraded from 12 PM) . I too was underwhelmed UNTIL I actually got the darn thing. It's AMAZING ( and reviews point the same way) Can't knock it til you try it. Not having to charge my phone ALL DAY...macro photos. ... C'mon son.

A random iphone 13 review (<--)

Coming from an 11, I don't find the 13Pro which I have amazing at all, it's a great responsive phone that takes really good photos and has some extremely useful software, but amazing? No.
Does it make me think, WOW - Incredible, not in the slightest.

Watched some wildlife on National Geographic the other day, baby Turtles find their way back to the beach, killer whales hunting, bees cooking wasps, (or was it hornets). Those things and myriad other things in nature were truly amazing to watch and learn about.

A phone, not so much.

Let's be honest here, how can ANY consumer device that gets updated every year be deemed 'exciting' every single year? Most phone/computer/tv etc manufacturer release new products every single year but it's normally not a for a few cycles that the next truly exciting one occurs. That's just the nature of iterative and incremental tech developments.

I think that is completely true. So many people are complaining about the shape....realistically, there are 3 choices candy bar or flip.....unless that want to go back to hanse like we had win the early day of cell phone. i think that all of the earth shattering has been done and that was in time period of the first iPhone, the Palm Treo and later in the iPhone run. They all now have amazing screens, cameras, processors that almost rival some laptops or even desktops.

1st cellphone was Motorola Flip - still love them to this day.
2nd was an HTC Evo - Complete POS
3rd was the OnePlusOne - Still have it... still love it.
Then came a smattering of MotoG phones, that were just that. Phones - nothing to get excited about except the $150 price.
As a Mac user since the Apple 100 Powerbook was released ($2500 back in the day) and a fairly happy user of the products, the iPhone 13Pro is my first phone from Apple, and I'm glad I waited until now! I have have been closely associated with iPhones in one way or another since they were first released, but never got excited or saw the need (for me) until the 13Pro. As a minimalist filmmaker/photographer this fits perfectly in my day to day kit. Yes, I still have DSLR and Mirrorless kits when it's called for, but it's is such a joy to be able to capture what I need with the 13Pro and my DJI Osmo Pocket devices, and keeping a low profile while doing so.

Spoiled brats, I say. But when the iPhone 12 is still a perfectly functional powerhouse, I can see how the gap can appear small.

I upgraded from an iPhone 12 Pro to an iPhone 13 Pro Max and I'm extremely happy with it. I love the smoothness of the scrolling that is made possible by ProMotion.

The battery life is fantastic.

But I still tend to keep 5G turned off for fear of using battery power unnecessarily.

If I'm going to need fast transfer speeds for a given task, I turn 5G on, go through with the task, then turn 5G back off.

This makes total sense. HOWEVER, I am loving mine. I didn't plan to update, but then Verizon had a promo to give them away, basically, so we did, and the improvements that are present are awesome. The ProMotion on the Pro is so smooth, it's addicting. Add in that I didn't have t get the gigantic Max model to get the best cameras, and an additional 2x on the optical zoom and I am thrilled. The battery is just the icing on the cake. I miss my 12 Mini, and am a little envious of my wife's 13 Mini, but so happy with the Pro features.
