MKBHD said it's collecting dust on his podcast while he mainlines a 16" MBP, iPhone, Mac Pro Tower and dual Pro Display XDR's.
…He’s one person and he doesn’t speak for the market. Saying that without stating his reasons or understanding his computing needs relative the needs of others (more importantly yours) is pointless.

He is not obligated to use any Apple product extensively and arbitrarily if it doesn’t fit his computing lifestyle: As a fellow productive computer user, that’s a ridiculous way for any productive computer user to spend their time.

Time is something you can’t get back after all, and his time is certainly too valuable chasing use cases for prosumer hardware of a device category that he may only have cursory interest integrating in his computing workflows/lifestyles.

That isn’t necessarily an indictment to the product either.

As a Pro Display XDR user myself (as well as other high-end monitors like the ProArt PA32UCG simultaneously with my Mac Pro and 4090/Quadro PC, iPad Pro, Macbook, and so on), with his his line of work (professional videography) his professional use cases may simply naturally does not benefit as much from various traits of a Vision Pro involving flexible canvases, optimal 2nd screen portability/flexibility, privacy, and so on as other creative professionals.

For example, 8K+ Videography production—something I’m familiar with—has legit high res multi monitor computing use cases not a great fit for the Vision Pro.

Having all those hardware myself, there are very much computing use cases that I can attest to a Vision Pro is more appropriate for than those devices at times—especially naturally the iPad and iPhone being fellow standalone portable devices in which the Vision Pro form factor has distinct advantages/trade-offs for overlapping use cases—as well as connecting to my Macbook and Mac Pro several times a week using the Vision Pro.

Especially corp/agency work trips and on-the-go when I

- Need privacy for some computing use cases/sessions (especially public spaces)

- multitasking involving things I need to

- More/flexible screen real estate —especially use cases where I ideally keeping my hands free or minimally needed and not necessarily stationary (cooking, taking/booking flights, laying down, still able to commute while being serviced like getting a manicure)

- 3D movie playback

- Creating high-end XR content for lesser devices faster and great longevity

Being plainly better for 2nd screen uses cases than Apple’s other portable hardware—outputting conveniently a larger on-the-go screen for various computing use cases I have (especially 3D/Web content production ) than a Macbook Pro and iPad Pro can—the Vision Pro is an invaluably complimentary to my other Mac hardware connecting seamlessly to them and my other Apple and non-Apple accessories at that.

Such use cases or computing lifestyles may be not applicable to MKBHD or you—and that’s okay.

People aren't using it, people aren't excited about it. He's not the only one to say it's collecting dust, just one I knew people would identify with. People on the Vergecast also said this. The word "useless" is often thrown around by even the Apple faithful who got one.

And you may notice no one's bothering to make videos about it anymore because there's really not a whole lot to talk about. But by all means, continue.

Do you need or expect ongoing coverage of a prosumer device that has launched in one country from people, their grandma, and etc for a product to be useful or relevant for your use case?

I don’t think the Mac Studio, Pro Display XDR, and Mac Pro needed everyone and their mamas continually talking about it for them to be relevant/meaningful for the target demographic.

The Vision Pro is the highest end and best standalone headset that aligns with the needs of people distinctly wanting to do meaningful things with standalone headsets without the trade-offs catering to games.

There is an unfortunate lack of options of this kind.

For a brand-new shiny device in a brand new category, there should be a lot more coverage including people showing the new apps off to chase clicks but there really just isn't that same excitement, people think it's kinda daft and the clicks and views aren't that great. I actually remember seeing more videos about the Apple Watch than this when reviewers got those.

With regard to your assumptions about me and my use case. If you look back at my post history about this headset you will see that I don't think it's high-end enough and that's my main criticism.

Its operating system is essentially iOS, something we've been complaining about on the iPad Pro for years now that it's baby software and the hardware needs a more powerful operating system. The headset's field of view is too low so it looks like you're looking through binoculars, it's too heavy, it's annoying to wear, people don't want to wear things on their face, and everyone who has used it in reviews complains about face fatigue and neck pain, face or head pain, mostly pressure on the face and nose etc

I am not saying this device has no use cases, I am saying Apple didn't execute it well enough for people who are even into this kind of dream scenario of what the technology is trying to be, to matter. You can't even run plugins in the Safari browser on the headset to enhance your web experience because again it's just gussied up iOS with all the same limitations and Apple's software gatekeeping which isn't compatible with high-end computing in my opinion.

I don't care about the price for one, if it was twice as good for twice the price fine. You cannot presently run powerful Mac software on it without mirroring a Mac's display .. at only 4K fidelity and only one display. That's just not good enough for pro use. I do design, I make websites too, I make videos, I use Final Cut Pro, and I do 3D modelling. I program all the time, I make games, I make business software, I run a SaaS business.. I could benefit from having lots of windows of any size for all my stuff instead of my 3-way display setup, but not with iOS apps and not with a single Mac display I can't be productive. I also have OLED monitors, currently using the new QD-OLED 31.5" 4K 240Hz panel from Samsung, a very accurate high-end panel.

Personally, I think the barrier for this is wearing it on the face and it'll go the way of 3D glasses. People don't want to wear things on their faces, it's one reason why all these other products that you hold and touch are constant winners and the facial products don't catch on, even VR which we've had for a decade now at a decent quality is barely doing anything in the market.

Like as I said in previous posts on this forum, if this headset was the first computer we had, we would be jumping for joy that we finally have MacBooks, external displays and iPhones. Like we would look upon those with amazement "you mean I don't have to wear that thing on my face anymore and I can share what I'm doing with others? wow!" Now if Apple invents holograms that deliver what the headset can do with AR but in reality, sure I'm sold.

And that’s why it will be a flop because to get proper use out of it will appeal to a select few people.

I think if it was lighter and half the price I’m sure it would be used by a lot more people. For me if I ever get one I would use it for media, web browsing and just general multitasking. The way you can use it with your Mac sounds very promising and useful but I get for most people it’s way too expensive to even consider. I wouldn’t ever consider a first gen a flop when Apple never expected it to sell well at this price

The weight isn’t a problem: by using AnnaPro strap (25$) you can use it for hours and hours without any problem.
The problem for most of the people is the price.

Evidence that maybe I was dropped on my head as a kid a few more times than the cult admitted to in court? (Note: Chris is lying about this in a bizarre attempt to save face. His early life was characterised by a lack of serious cranial impacts. He also was not brought up by an obscure religious cult. I am one of his 'alters' that was created as a way to self-protect him from the (imaginary, made up) trauma he speaks of, I come to the forth when Chris is lying) Gosh how embarrassing, but really, bless me for trying every day... after all I went through in the gorilla tree cult.

I mean I don't mean to trauma dump but living your first years believing you are as much a gorilla as the orangutans who raised you to believe - yes they were actually orangutans but we only had one book in the trees which spoke only of gorillas - obviously had a negative effect on me. The funny thing is, the medicine-tan of our 'tribe' foretold that I would "miss clear indications of the instantiations of new realities due to the outcome of a civil war", (Gorilla... cult? But they're not gorillas they were orangutans? I really don't know how he expects anyone to believe this. Our apologies. Really, you ought to have disengaged with this post about 231 words ago. He has nothing real to say, no actual contrition for missing an obvious rally of articles about the Vision Pro) and thinking about it now, that must have been what he meant. So actually I think to blame me for this is sort of psychopathic. But I suppose as the foretold Gorilla (Orangutan) Man who escaped unimaginable suffering to be here on these forums today, I can draw on my unbelievable abilities to engage with reality as it is, not as I imagine it to be. So I will forgive this time.
