Average wage in the uk is £35k!

So £3,500 does unit, it’s over a months income for them. Probs not their target market.

The Labour Party are usually really good for the economy, so maybe wages will go up at last.
And average is only that high due to a small group of greedy people not paying their staff well. Most people are earning much less than £35k too.

For such a technically impressive and future looking device… it is performing abysmally. I wonder what there internal market research is telling them about why such lackluster reception and sales in general.
It’s probably the same “market pet project research” used to greenlight this thing in the first place. 😆

Interest rate hikes, a cost of living crisis, rampant inflation after the covid money printer going brrrr, and significant job losses driven by companies downsizing or automating through AI.

Doesn’t take much market research to understand that with all of that going on, people do not have the desire nor the financial means to drop AU$6,000 on a first-gen novelty product with a (as it currently stands) questionable use case.

I had a demo earlier this week here in Bath.

I was the only person that day booked in for a demo.

Well, it was astonishing. The technology is quite frankly jaw dropping.

No Tim Apple, I did not tear up.

However, I will not be buying one anytime soon.

I do feel for the sales reps. The guy tried so hard to hype me up… but I am nearly 40 years older than him and what would have me opening my wallet back then doesn't anymore.

Apart from watching movies and "consuming" content there is no use case for me.

Still, I cannot see this being a huge success beyond a very select group of people.

Edit:
One thing did stand out for me… Photos. Bloody hell! They look absolutely brilliant. But a £4,000+ ViewMaster is just not realistic.

Edit 2:
If you can, go and try one. It's an experience.

It is technically impressive for sure
But like you said, the use case for most people will be content consumption, and at that price.. most would rather buy a MacBook or a huge OLED TV. It doesn’t have a value proposition for most consumers at this time. It might take years for this to change and the cost come down.

I think despite it being a great device… it will take a while to take off. Reminds me of the first Apple TV actually… a great device that just didn’t get much traction until later iterations when streaming really took off.

Only usecase for the AVP: buy it, put it in a closet and sell it again in 20years - but too many guys will be doing exactly this.

I see AVP like a first class transoceanic flight, which costs thousands of dollars for a luxury experience. Many can’t afford. Their option is to fly in economy and deal with cramped seats. Those people can afford the MQ3.

They need to cut the price in half on this product family, like, yesterday.

At $4000 after everything, this is a dev kit available at retail -- not a product family.

Once a gadget costs north of $1500 maybe $2000... the number of people with that kind of disposable income to piss away drops off a cliff.

Had a demo in the UK this morning. I’ve been skeptical, but the demo was very impressive. Pretty damn amazing actually. Pass through quality was way better than I was expecting. Immersive stuff is pretty magical. Just trying to justify spending so much. If Apple sold this for £1-2k in the UK I think it would do well. Amazing product
Great tech demo, but is there a single practical use for it? Hopefully by the time the cheaper version arrives there will be.

Dude it's two weeks pay has Labour already ****ed your economy that bad?
Lol, in the Netherlands it is a bit over a month's worth of salary (average and excluding taxes, so actually more than a month worth of salary). Of course people do not want to fork over ~10% or more of their yearly income on a gimmick...But probably you will see the same burst of "content creators" buying in the first two weeks and sending them back after said "content" is created.
