I sold my Quest 3. It was gathering dust. Subpar pass through along with mediocre screens just wasn’t doing it for me. I love my AVP. It gets more use than my quests have ever done.
Yep, it’s stupid expensive, but it’s also a much nicer experience.

Direct opposite from my buddy. Kept their quest, but sold the AVP.. It couldn't be shared with his kids, they couldn't plug their consoles (mainly the Switch) into via HDMI, and since he works in IT across Mac and PC, and it was useless with his PCs.

I'll say this again:

1) Make it multi-user
2) Make it platform-agnostic, either via the OS or allowing non-proprietary video input.

For what it's worth, I have to use a PC owned by my clients for certain work and I am still able to use AVP with it. PC->Mac via Capture Card and HDMI cable, then connect to the ultra-wide screen in AVP. It's clunky (and I have to use the PC keyboard trackpad, not Mac keyboard/trackpad) but works well enough. Granted my use case is really monitoring for emails and occasional document review on the PC, but works well enough for my purposes while I do work on the AVP.

To be clear, I am a weird use case where prior to AVP I was doing 95% of my work on an iPad, which apparently means I don't do "real work" per multiple posters on MacRumors 😂 .

I'll say this again:

1) Make it multi-user
Would be great, but I doubt it happens. I expect Apple will have a V2 or V3 of the Vision Pro that is under $2k, and at that point they treat it like an iPad Pro. Would love to be wrong here.

2) Make it platform-agnostic, either via the OS or allowing non-proprietary video input.
Never going to happen.

posting no. 254 - not many products - the 'nobody' wants tget that many reactions 🤣 🤣 🤣

Speaking for myself. I don't care what others do, even if it's foolish..and I don't think "Apple is doomed", I just think this a stupid product.

Either way, engagement does not equal sales. Despite the common phrase, bad publicity exists.

There’s a reason people make articles about it and spin it with a negative framing. It’s called “negativity bias” and is why fear mongering news works so well in humans. We love drama.

Make an article that says “Apple Vision Pro sells well for its price point. New camera coming to expand immersive content. Apple Vision Pro expanding to more countries. Sony working with Apple on controllers” what’s…to care about? Say “oh cool” and move on?

Spin it as this is a terrible product and you have passionate discussion. The guy you were replying to said he’s never buying this product and yet has posted more than anyone else. Engagement baby.

Those of us that have been around awhile know an “Apple is doomed” article when we see one. Dismiss and move on. But for some people, they just gotta argue that no. Apple IS doomed. And this is why. Right as they sail past a 4 trillion dollar valuation

If the “amount of discussion” had any bearing on what Apple actually does, we’d have wildly different product lineups

AVP is a polarizing topic .. that’s the main reason it’s fun to banter about for page after page

Totally agree, my man. Comments online have no bearing on the success of a product. People tend to be wildly wrong about things all the time.

That isn’t actually what I said, but I also agree with that anyhow

Comments here mean nothing positively or negatively

People who are wildly optimistic about AVP may also be very wrong.
You should probably keep that possibility in mind as well.

Remember when Netflix, raising prices and cracking down on password sharing was gonna be the end of the company? Boy do I remember. Comments online definitely don’t translate towards anything.

Just cherry picking examples is no way to debate

that's why Apple's shares are that strong these days - Apple knows what they want to accomplish and their outlook has always been on the long run.

I remember an interview with Craig where he told the story when they used a Mac PRO to simulate the 120 Hz technology for the iPad Pro and they could not stop playing with the scrolling and then they started with:

  • A team getting the task of developing the GPU being capable of doing 120 Hz refreshrate
  • A team being told to optimize the software for getting refresh rats from 4 Hz to 120 Hz when in use
  • A team co-developing a display for 4 Hz .. 120 Hz with seamless transition
  • A team optimizing the power consumption
  • A team driving the development for the SoC
All in all it took them in total five years from the idea to the real product and we all benefit from the bottom up design with full vertical integration. That's the thing that would never happen in many companies and that's what makes Apple so unique - in reality the top guys are 'just' large kids toying around and developing things they like on their own.
Craig is a very good example with his attitude.

Sure. I could be wrong. Like I was wrong about the Apple Watch being totally useless since I can tell time on my phone.

Yes. Groundbreaking innovative technology with easily solvable issues when it enters the market, it could totally fail. Seems like the smart thing to do would be…idk. At least remain neutral instead of calling it a failure this early on into this products life cycle? But what do I know. I’m just here so people can have fun telling me i Am wrong

Correct. People have their own biases and cannot see through them.

Edit: Decontinuing production of AVP smells like the OG HomePod.

Is there a must have app for iPhone? Or are the majority of people buying iPhones simply browsing tik tok and Reddit sprinkled with some YouTube on the side?

The must have feature of avp has always been the movie watching experience. That’s why I bought it? It’s the best screen I’ve ever seen. I know people that have bought for the ultra wide feature as well.

It’s fully replaced my iPad, tv and even my iPhone in some instances

Yeah, you've listed some of them. Add in Instagram, whatsapp etc.

When Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone in 2007, he mentioned what the "killer app" was => "The Internet in your pocket"
Well there ya go. Killer app. A movie theater for your eyeballs

Whew. Glad we got that killer app discussion sorted.

We've already got those? They are called Television.

You can watch it with your family without 2 and half pounds strapped to your head.
Hey that’s awesome! I’ve heard of those before. How much is it to buy one the size of a movie theater and transport me to the island of bora bora to watch all my personal content?
