I think it would be a lot better if they could also allow people to scan a 3D model of their glasses using their iPhone or iPad's LiDAR scanner, then upload the scanned model to their Vision Pro.
Code that app and sell it in the early store.

Also hat app, wig app, eye color app, etc.

Halloween costume app, holiday theme app too.

I don't think the LIDAR is accurate enough for such high-detail objects like glasses. That's probably why the Vision Pro face scanner also isn’t able to capture them adequately.

This doesn't really bother me at all. I mean, it isn't like the Personas are going to be an EXACT match, either... I suspect they'll be pretty darn good, but still look artificial. And with a wide variety of "fake" glasses, I feel like anyone will find something as close to legit as the Persona is close to legit.

Except maybe people with really signature glasses. (I'm fondly looking at you, Iris Apfel.)

I feel the frustration. The Avatar generation on Meta Quest is pretty limited to. Every character looks like a San Fransisco hipster, no matter how you try and squre it.

Our future digital surrogates will be flawless, healthy and eternally young. while our mortal selves can hide in our luxuriously constructed artificial caves.

That reads to me as “glasses dramatically throw off the dot projector mechanism during scanning, to the point where they’re not supported for the Persona setup”.

LiDAR Depth mapping can get real funky when the reflections expected are thrown off by things like lenses. More scanning at more angles takes care of it mostly.

I think Apple made a compromise in how long and user friendly they want the setup process to be and decided that walking a person through an super granular scan of their face at every conceivable angle with their glasses on simply isn’t a reasonable user experience.

I’m sure adding digital frames after the fact will be a thing at some point, if you care for it.

Have you tried contact lenses yet? I recently switched from glasses, and it's much better than constantly wearing something on your face (and I say this having worn glasses for almost my entire life).
Yeah totally, I bet OP just hadn’t heard about contact lenses yet!! Thanks for sharing, this was super helpful.

Huh? Was it ever suggested it’d scan glasses or is this headline basically “product doesn’t do random thing nobody had any reason to expect it to do”?
Not at all but you better believe I was set to spend the $3500 but after this, NO WAY!! Guaranteed FLOP! /s

This product really isn't making me interested due to the fact that I wear glasses. Will need to buy prescription lenses, have a choice of N frames, and buy new inserts when my vision changes. I'm guessing Tim Cook doesn't have to worry about such things.
Tim Cook wears glasses so he probably does have to worry about all of these things. He’s in a good position to give excellent feedback on this very experience.

My guess is the only difference is he gets an employee or possibly CEO discount.

I'm not quite sold on this personas thing... even in the marketing promos, the digital persona looked fake and unnatural. It's impressive how close it looks coming from Memojis, but I don't think I would want to use that for a conference call...(not that I intended to buy the Vision Pro anyway)

I don’t even do video calls that often… more interesting to me is to be able to have full body video calls in 3D with the only persons I am interested in having full detailed body video calls for when we are in different cities.

I wear glasses, too, and my eyes are different. My left eye is far-sighted and my right eye is near-sighted. I wonder if Apple will account for anomalies like me. 🤣

This thing seems like more trouble than its really worth.

I'm amazed at responses like this. Reminds me of when the first iPod was released (on my birthday! Oct 23, 2001). Even I was wondering how an "mp3 player" fit into Apple's product lineup, but we all know where that went. Fast forward to 2023 and so many of us no longer doubt Apple's vision. The Vision Pro is going to blow the VR/AR market out of the water. Nobody will get close to its processing power and precision for at least 5 years.

Interesting to know about this. Looking forward to hearing more about Vision Pro in the coming months.
