You're assuming "actual care" quality is the focus of those who make the financial decisions in healthcare.
In the US at least, it's a very muddy picture there.

All the "gains" on something like this could very easily just be absorbed into "better margins" .. you know, like Apple themselves like to do.
It looks like you hate vision pro from bottom of your heart.

Can they do the same volume, or do they need to take a break once every few hours? I can't imagine wearing this for prolonged periods of time. I have no clue about the workload, obviously.

I don't assume anything about their motivations. I simply don't care what they are as long as it results in better care. And I don't see why improving working conditions for surgeons (according to surgeons themselves) wouldn't result in better care.

I rather have quality over speed with any medical procedure.
Those aren't mutually exclusive categories. Speed that comes at the cost of quality is a problem, but what this appears to be doing is reducing the time for surgeons to look away from the patient and towards a monitor and then back. That not only reduces time away from the patient, but also head and neck strain and pain in the surgeons.

What this small pilot study shows is that you can have both quality and speed in the medical procedure.

Yeah, at the end of the day they happened to use AVP in this study but the main advantage mentioned is ergonomic (natural forward looking vs straining neck to look at external monitor) and could be accomplished by any HMD.
Not just any HMD. HMDs have been around for a long time but I don't recall seeing before that they've been used with much success. There's a high standard of quality of both hardware and software that precise surgery requires. Perhaps more headsets will follow in the VP's footsteps though.

As a radiologist I would love to read the MRI's using my Vision Pro but
- it is not a certified monitor
- nor there is a certified software to read it and there is
- no professional speech-to-text software for it - the apple dictation is not able to import a 40 000 words medical vocabulary ...
What’s your impression comparing certified monitors with Apples pro-model screens, like the iPad, macbook pro, maybe the studio display? A side-by-side comparison would be really interesting.

Sure, but for any surgeries using general anaesthetic, the shorter the better. Thus I could see this being used to great effect. I have done small animal procedures with operating microscopes and also monitors and it isn't easy, so I hope this works out. I am somewhat surprised that heart rate and BP aren't shown as well so that all of the relevant information is available in one source, like a medical HUD, but one has to walk before running. Anyway, this looks like good progress in the interim until the surgical robots take over.

True, but how much of that is due to the tech not being good enough at the time, but being good enough now (less cumbersome, lighter, better/more detailed image, etc.) due to the usual march of advances in tech? No doubt the AVP hardware is great but in the grand scheme of all things tech, it doesn't add up to much more than a spec bump. I fully expect the "spec bumps" to continue, whether driven by Apple or someone else.

There always were potential real-life uses for Vision Pro.

What there wasn't was a mass consumer market in competition with cheaper gaming headsets that were "good enough" for gaming.

I think (and have said before) Vision Pro is the next Apple Newton - the current tech isn't viable for the sort of 8 hours a day business/productivity use they were promoting, but some unknown number of years down the line everybody will be saying how forward looking* it was and how unfairly the market rejected it (while the mists of nostalgia blur away the price, weight, battery life...)

The product is a flop but I'm sure that Apple have a nice little portfolio of patents on AR tech that they can cash in on in years to come, even if they never make another headset.

(* and up looking, sideways looking, right-looking...)

...how do you sterilize these? I doubt the straps are autoclavable and woe be if you get any bodily fluids in the cervices of the unit itself.

FWIW, I'm a surgeon that bought a Vision pro for media consumption before returning it and I would also try to finish a surgery faster so I could get the thing off before it gave me another migraine.

well said! what’s not to like here? just scanned the paper. faster, 100% success, doc less wrecked at the end. Nothing traded…seems hard to beat.

Are you a minimally invasive surgeon? They use instruments and displays that would raise similar issues and concerns. I imagine that a gas sterilization using Ethylene oxide or hydrogen peroxide might be used or they could use this on the unit, add disposable covers where needed, and even just treat the straps as consumables that are disposed of after surgery.
 
I mean, most of the marketing was about consuming content and taking “spatial” photos and videos of your loved ones. It was most certainly marketed at consumers.

Was it? You shouldn't assume that they weren't engaging in business development with medical professionals just because you didn't see it. I dare say you don't see more than a scintilla of the marketing that is done to physicians if you aren't a physician. It would be a waste of Apple's money to make sure you saw marketing material you had no interest in.

I'm curious about the process of sterilization after a surgery. Vision Pro isn't waterproof. The interior is fairly sealed but the exterior would need to be cleaned. Blood and other fluids will almost certainly make it up to their face which is why they wear goggles during surgery. How are Vision Pros cleaned?
That's a really good point. Maybe a quick wipe with alcohol wipes or something? I'm not sure.
