Remember when iPhone lovers called NFC a gimmick, now expected to widely be in the next iPhone!
and they will call it innovation if Apple releases an iphone with NFC.......

----------

Mine was mainly a joke .... with a true base
But mine was ALL true.....

----------

On a 9" device would be a welcomed novelty.
On a 5" device is a gimmick ...

so says you unless Apple does it on the iphone.....

That's useful. As opposed to what most phones do which is make you app switch back and forth 20 times just to transfer info

Much rather have the options than no options at all

I rather have iOS than that crap Samsung calls TW. Features are great and all, but they are only worth it if they work. Let's take the fingerprint scanner on the S5. Sure it helps fill up the spec sheet, but it's plain garbage when trying to use it. The 5s on other hand has TouchID which works like a charm. The S5 has the heart rate monitor. Again sure it's cool to see on a spec sheet, but from everything I have heard it's not that good.

I would rather have an OS that does not have every feature, but works really well with what it has. Then an OS that adds as much as it can, but only half works well enough to be relied on. We can argue all day iOS vs android, and it comes down to preference. But trying to argue features that TW has is just crazy.

But you do realize....... TW is not Android. It is a feature overlay that Samsung alone uses. Not all Android phones have it. Rant all you want about TW or Android...... To each his own preference but get the facts straight.

What facts did I not get right? Did you not read the last part of my post? I clearly said we can debate android vs iOS which will never get us anywhere. Preference is the answer to that debate every time. The argument set here though is TW and iOS. Which is my point. Samsung throws the everything and the kitchen sink at the new phone. Whether it works properly or not. Have two examples from the S5. I will say them again. The fingerprint scanner, and the heart rate monitor. Never work well, but yet both were added to the S5. Apple on the other hand waits to add features until they are ready. Like the TouchID. Sure it's not perfect, but it works most of the time.

Maybe people like half baked features to say they have them I really don't care. What I care is people trying to throw features in peoples face like they mean something. Half the time they don't work, or the user never even bothers using them. Features do not mean crap unless they are useful. Android and iOS have plenty. TW does not. For the ones that work. There are the other ten that don't. That is why the ones that work get so over shadowed by all the ones that don't that get all the marketing. Maybe Samsung has a couple of good features that iOS doesn't, but nobody knows much about them because all Samsung markets is the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor. Neither are very good. That is what I am arguing. Samsung and iOS. Not android and iOS. I like android, but not Samsung and TW. Why don't you get your facts straight?

Yeah, you mean apart from the now rumoured split screen multitasking in iOS8 in iPads which is an idea taken straight from Samsung.

Wrong. Idea taken from Windows....

And unless Apple gets devs on board quickly, it will be a gimmick on iOS too - Samsung's issue is there aren't enough apps that support it.

The same would/should be said of Apple if only a few apps work. At least, I'll say that.

It's not something I clamor for anyhow. My iPhone is always with me. If I need a calculator while I'm looking at something on my iPad, I grab my phone. If Apple opens up various sharing features through it though, it could be interesting.

First example, I use my iPhone as the calculator.

Second example, having both the pdf reader and contact apps open, one four finger swipe to the left or right switches pretty quickly. Just copy address, four finger swipe, paste address. Pretty simple process.

EDIT: That's on an iPad - iPhone doesn't have the four-finger swipe.

First example, if you have a second app that contains inputs to whatever you're calculating, you have to app switch which is a pain in the ass. IE I have a banking app open or a stocks display open and I need to calculate a future balance or % decrease, you're basically memorizing calculator inputs to compensate for not having the info in front of you.

Same for any use case where you can't copy / paste - IE you have promoter contact info from a flier you wanna add to contacts. You end up having to memorize and app switch.

No, I'm talking about having two devices i.e. iPad and iPhone. Have the banking app up on iPad and calculator on iPhone.

Since I almost always have both devices with me, its not a problem. I can see how split screen can be useful - just don't find it particularly so in my own use case.

But hey, hope they add it - and REALLY hope devs pick up on it.

We might even get split screen in iOS 8:D

----------

It's pretty useful on the note 3 which is closer to 5 inches than 9.

What is "pretty useful" to you, is "barely usable" in my experience ....
I can't see a reason on any phone, while i can see a reason on a tablet, but let's see how Apple is going to implement it on iOS 8 ....

----------

You do know that touchwiz extends to their tablet line also so you get split screen multitasking In 8,10, and 12 inch offerings as well.

Next excuse?

Except TouchWiz is a ridiculous UI and Samsung tablets are a joke ...

lol, not another one of these threads... I've used both and love to tinker w/ my devices... having been a power user on ios (jailbreaking scene etc.) and also currently on android (root + custom rom, htc m7)... ios is like an automatic car...........and android is more like a manual car........ some people don't like to shift and let the car drive them..........others like to manual shift and do the driving on the car lol.

Sure Touchwiz sucks.... but in the hands of the right user... it can be modified.. leaned out... streamlined to work to one's liking. You just can't be a noob.... otherwise, stick to the cookie cutter ios system lol.

True. TouchWiz and its bloat sucks but it can be streamlined to your liking. Use a launcher, hide and disable apps, etc. The OS underneath the skin is what saves it.

Software can always change and be tweaked. Hardware can't always. If the screen or internal storage (no expansion slot) is small, it will always stay small. If the camera sucks, it sucks.

As for Apple vs Samsung, they both need each other. Apple has a SoC maker that is fast and efficient. Samsung has a company to emulate. Apple sues Samsung for another 2.2B to help off-set the cost of buying Beats Audio for 3.2B which is all chump change to them with over 100B in the bank. Some of the billions they make from beating Samsung in court goes back to Samsung anyway for making SoC chips, displays, SSD drives, etc as a contracted partner. The billions Samsung makes goes to marketing and attack Apple and their users in ads.

Frenemies. Almost like a typical marriage. Goes around and around in circles for this "couple." There they go again... so what else is new?

I totally agree. Competition is good for everyone.....W/O Android and Samsung....Apple would never push their own boundaries to improve and vice versa... People need to just relax and use whatever they enjoy lol.

No, taken from Samsung who took it from Windows. If you want to follow that logic then we could argue how Samsung hasn't copied a thing from Apple.

I love how you just slander it as a gimmick, you'll be on here praising it like nothing a week after it's launched I bet. And not everyone wants to use a separate device for a calculator when the device they are using has one already.

Lol, ok pal. Anyone ever tell you what assuming does?

And the feature is a Windows feature....

It just shows you are ridiculous.

Every iphone crybaby just regurgitate the same hate about touchwiz but I can't seems to see what is the major problem with it.

I am using touchwiz on my note3. It is fast, stable, got great battery life and has a lot of features. You may not use all features but it is better to have them than not since the downside is very little. Some features may not useful but there are also many that are useful from little things like pressing the home key to answer call or album art on lock screen or smart stay or adapt sound to the more advanced like multi/floating window or the jam packed camera features.

So I get how people will argue is better to have features that you don't use. Then to have limited features that you may need. What I don't get is this point and laugh attitude Samsung and it's user have. All these commercials saying "look at how big our screen is, look at how many more MP our camera, or we can swipe across the screen to swipe through pictures". Yes all those things a great, but just because the iPhone does not have it does not mean anything. I like the size of my iPhone 5s, and the camera. I also like my Nexus 5. This I have more than you childish crap is just getting old. I know a lot of iPhone users do the same thing, and I am tired of hearing it all. I think iPhone and Samsung user are both crybabies.

To get to your point about what is so bad about TW. Well I guess it comes more down to it being what the user does not have. iPhone users don't use TW, so it becomes nasty and unusable to them. Just like Samsung users can't stand the iPhone because it's not what they prefer to use. Now I will say Samsung has an issue just putting a bunch of half baked crap on their phone that does not work properly. I have said it before in this thread, but look at the finger print scanner. No one I mean no one can argue that this feature is nothing more than garbage. It's works only sometimes, and you have to swipe several times to get it to unlock your phone. Why bother adding it? I know, I know just because it's another feature we can add, and well the more the better even if it does not work well. At least we can say we have it. It seems that is common place for Samsung. I see that as a problem with TW.

So don't use TW then.....Use a different launcher like Nova. Problem solved.....don't need those features...disable them so they are not using any resources on the phone. problem solved....now can you do that on an iPhone? can you use a different launcher if you choose to do so? What if you want different features than the current iPhone launcher has? Can you just install another one? See how that works in reverse too? Don't like TW....don't use it...install another one......don't like the one on the iphone? You stuck...Apple decided they know what is best for you so you are stuck with what they chose for you......
Don't like the features or options on an Android phone? Disable them in system settings. problem solved......Can you do that in IOS?
