Did you read the title of the thread? Samsung vs Apple. It has nothing to do with what android had first. We are talking about the features Samsung has and no one else.

Says who? As far as I'm concerned, all features on Samsung phones should be included.

Multi window, pen window, palm swipe to capture, The S pen and all of its related features, S-Health, Ability to use the phone with gloves, ability to silence a call ringing by placing the phone face down, Amoled display, S view cover.

I never said Samsung did have some good features. From the beginning this thread was started with the idea more is better, and Samsung is better because they have more. My argument is that more is not always better. Now with the list you just gave. Yes there are some good features there (Amoled display I don't think counts as a Samsung feature because I don't believe they created Amoled). I could list off things Apple, HTC, or Motorola have, but again just a list of features does not make a phone or company better. I am just pointing out some of the Samsung features are not all that good, and try and defend the fact that because others don't use them does not make them worse.

So what if the iPhone, Moto x, or HTC One don't have an S pen? Are they bad phones because they don't? I don't think so. None of those phones can be turn over and place screen down to silence a call. Again I don't think it makes it a bad phone. Each phones has it features that make it good. The Moto X has some really great ones like always listening. The S5 does not have that. Does it make the S5 not any good? This could go on forever.

Multi window Windows feature
Pen window assuming this falls in the "S Pen related features" category
Palm swipe to capture Never understood how sliding my palm against the screen is easier than a tap or using the volume up button
The S pen and all of its related features Only on the Note series - but I'll give you this one - would like to see Apple come up with some unique iPad/iPhablet features
S-Health This is in no way original....
Ability to use the phone with gloves I can buy gloves that work with ANY touch screen. Also - wasn't Nokia first with this?
Ability to silence a call ringing by placing the phone face down A solution looking for a problem
Amoled display Which many still feel is inferior due to unnatural color accuracy and relatively low brightness - though the GS5 got rave reviews for its display
S view cover It's a pretty cool case - liked it when I had it with my GS4

jrswizzle it seems that no matter what we say unless we agree that Samsung is better than Apple or any other phone maker. We are wrong. I have clearly pointed out multiple times features that are useless, or don't work properly. All I get it either TouchID did not work right at first either, or Samsung is the first to try the heart rate censor. Give them a break. I see no need for any reason to have this on a smartphone. I am with you on all these things, but it seem logic has no place in this thread.

I'm not saying that Samsung are better than Apple. I was simply pointing out some of the features available to me as a note 3 owner that weren't available to be when I had the iPhone 5S. We all have our preferences. I prefer Samsung for my phone and Apple for my tablet. I can accept that you may not find the extra features useful but I think it's unfair to dismiss them all as gimmicks.

No in my post to you before I said these things are nice. I just am saying based on this thread others have been coming at me trying to say Samsung has more to offer, and are better for it. I agree that preference is everything, and I don't dismiss most of the features you listed as gimmicks. Some of them I care about. Others I don't, but to each his own. Sorry if I came off as jerk and dismissing Samsung. I did not mean for it to be sent your way.

You are missing the point all together. Whether anyone has tried the heart rate monitor before or not it does not matter. My point is that is does not work that well, and most smartphone makers like HTC, Apple, And Motorola don't put things on their phones until they are ready. You also fail to see I am not just talking about Apple I am talking about android too. The biggest criticism of Samsung is putting a ton of features into one phone, and see what works. If it does not work on well they just won't use it next time. It is a valid complaint because this is exactly what Samsung does. Most people won't a phone with features that work the majority of the time, or make using a phone a better experience. Most of the features Samsung throws at phone are just gimmicks that don't make the phone easier or better to use (heart rate monitor, and finger print scanner). Neither add much to the S5, and the finger print scanner bring more frustration than anything. I did not see one review praising either of these two features. Most said not to even bother with either. This is my point. More is not always better. Having something to say you have it to put on a spec sheet is stupid, but it appears that is what Samsung is going. It seems to be working for all the Samsung fans.

I am not arguing that TouchID is just so much better. In fact the last 3 post I have not even talked about TouchID. I am not comparing the two. I am saying Samsung's finger print scanner does not work well at all. Most people of have seen comment on about it. Say they are not even using it anymore. If you want to compare the two this will be a losing battle for you for sure. Ask anyone that has used both, and they will tell you TouchID is miles ahead of Samsung's. Go look at some reviews. It's all there.

I thought I have gone thru this. A new firmware was just released for s5 which may improve the finger scanner. Who knows it may become as easy as TouchID. I don't want to stereotype you but in this case it looks like you have already dismissed it because it is from Samsung.

Dont be mistaken. Most of the criticisms about too many features in samsung phone came from iphone supporters. What else can these ifans say?

So what features are gimmick on a galaxy? I bet you can't give reasonable reasons why they are gimmicks.

Camera/video modes? Most of modes are found in dedicated high end camera. So?

IR? Very useful because it can be my universal remote control. So?

Smart stay/rotation? Not new functions either. it is addendum to rotation/timeout sensors to improve accuracy.

NFC? This brought about one touch sharing. There is even a standard on this for epayment. What's wrong with supporting more standards?

SPEN? I really would like to hear how you spin this as gimmick.

Motion/Gesture? Doesn't iOS7 also include some of these? Are they gimmicks on iPhone too?

Multi window? Even ios8 is rumored to want to copy this feature.

S-health / heart rate mon? So what apple is doing (belated) with the motion coprocessor chip in iPhone5 is a gimmick too?

All Cast? Gimmick? Then apple tv is also a gimmick too.

Usb3? Darn a non proprietary connector is gimmicky. A proprietary lightning port connector is not?

Water resistant? I would love to hear how you spin this as well.

Big screen / Amoled screen?

Samsung account? Hmm. .. icloud account.

Finger print scanner?

======

Did I miss out anything that is Galaxy specific?

So please do give more solid reasons (instead of those desperate sounding ones) why the above are gimmicks.

Alright I thought we had been over this too. I will not consider the finger print scanner anything but a copycat gimmick until Samsung can prove it works. I am not convinced that swiping your finger down a raised button is in anyway a good way to implement a finger print scanner. Again maybe they will prove me wrong, but at this point all it can be consider is a gimmick that only works sometimes.

Camera/video mode- The key here is most. Yes they have some good features on the camera, but they cant stop there can they? They have to add just a few more modes like golf mode. Why the crap would this need to be added to a camera on a smartphones?

IR- this is a very interesting feature. Don't really care one way or the other, but I am not sure we can give Samsung all the credit for this one because the HTC One got the feature at the same time. I think this has some grounds for usefulness.

Smart stay/rotation- I had smart stay on my Note 2 it was alright. Did not work some of the the time though. Again something that may have been worked out by now, but at that point it was just ok at best. Not going to call it a gimmick, but it sure would not be something I would brag about.

NFC- This one I don't know why you would lump with Samsung features. This has been on Android phones long before Samsung starting using it. If anything you could have said S beam which uses NFC, but claiming NFC was from Samsung is bull crap.

S Pen- with this list you act as if I said every feature Samsung has is a gimmick. Which is not what I said at all. This I used a lot on my Note 2. It had some issues, but over all work pretty well. Enjoyed this one.

Motion/Gesture- I am not sure what exactly you are talking about. Motion and gesture are very general terms, so I am not sure which feature you are speaking of.

Multi window- again this was not done by Samsung first. I will still call it a gimmick though because the limited apps that can use the feature. When more than 10 can then maybe we will call it a good feature. Again nothing really to brag about. Looks good on commercials, but then when you get it home it becomes a bit disappointing.

S-health- again another thing Samsung can't claim. The Play Store and App Store are filled with health tracking apps. These all predate S-Health. What has this added that those don't have? If iOS adds health center or whatever it will be called I could care less.

All cast- really this is not even a Samsung feature. This is just an app in the play store.

USB 3.0- well it looks like it has some potential. Just does not seem like it has gotten it's feet off the ground yet, but has some promise. Lighting is fine, but I could care less. I just like I don't have to worry with which side has to be facing up. Other than that is nothing special to me.

Water resistant- ok great I guess. I don't know that this could ever be labeled as a gimmick unless the phone was only water resistant some of the time which I would think the phone would not make it to market if that were the case. I guess this is good. I don't think I would like worry about a flap on the USB port, but that may just me.

Big Screen/ Amoled screen- you sure are getting Samsung features mixed with just plan features on a phone. No a big screen is not a gimmick, but not everyone likes them. This has no clear advantage because there are plenty of people that could care less about a big screen. Amoled did Samsung create this technology?

Samsung account- what are you saying with this one? I don't think I would have to go out a limb and say there a lot more people using iCloud than a Samsung account. Can the Samsung account back up your whole phone apps and all?

Finger print scanner- what else do I need to say about this. Read the first part of this post.

Camera/video mode- The key here is most. Yes they have some good features on the camera, but they cant stop there can they? They have to add just a few more modes like golf mode. Why the crap would this need to be added to a camera on a smartphones?

Why? To give you options I think. You are so irritated just because a few extra options are in the menu.

IR- this is a very interesting feature. Don't really care one way or the other, but I am not sure we can give Samsung all the credit for this one because the HTC One got the feature at the same time. I think this has some grounds for usefulness.

So then this is not gimmick.

Yo do know that smart stay takes one picture at screen timeout and check to see whether you are still looking at the screen. It just depends on whether your face is discernable at that instance.

NFC- This one I don't know why you would lump with Samsung features. This has been on Android phones long before Samsung starting using it. If anything you could have said S beam which uses NFC, but claiming NFC was from Samsung is bull crap.

Your anti samsung feeling emerged here. Who's talking about who invented what here? If NFC a gimmick? From your tirade it doesn't seem so.

S Pen- with this list you act as if I said every feature Samsung has is a gimmick. Which is not what I said at all. This I used a lot on my Note 2. It had some issues, but over all work pretty well. Enjoyed this one.
Not gimmick then.

Motion/Gesture- I am not sure what exactly you are talking about. Motion and gesture are very general terms, so I am not sure which feature you are speaking of.

Just look at the settings in your note2. :)

When more than 10 can then maybe we will call it a good feature. Again nothing really to brag about. Looks good on commercials, but then when you get it home it becomes a bit disappointing.

I have more than 20 apps that can do it including many third party ones.

So this is not likely to be gimmick then.

S-health- again another thing Samsung can't claim. The Play Store and App Store are filled with health tracking apps. These all predate S-Health. What has this added that those don't have? If iOS adds health center or whatever it will be called I could care less.

So s health is not gimmicky stuff added by samsung for show. Just that you couldn't care less because you don't use it

So these are alternatives to what are available. So samsung didn't make these for show and gimmicky.

Water resistant- ok great I guess. Not gimmick too.

So finally can I ask you where are all the supposedly GIMMICK functionalities in Galaxy that all the ifans are ranting about until they foamed in their mouth.

Half of the crap you listed there had nothing to do with Samsung. Screen size are you freaking kidding me? NFC what heck does Samsung have to do with that feature other than putting on it phones which is a android standard. I will say this like I told you the first time. I enjoy android and all the features it adds. I do not enjoy Samsung and the added bloat it has with all the unnecessary features. Oh I don't have a Note 2 anymore. Could not put up with TW.

You completely ignore what I have said, and think just because android has it. That means I don't like it, or think it's a gimmick. Here is a list of Samsung gimmicks:

Finger print scanner: only works some times. You can not count on it to be accurate.

Smart stay: you say it takes pictures to see if you are looking at the screen. That is fantastic, but from my experience it was not very accurate, and would shut the screen off when I was looking at the bottom of the screen. It should not matter where I am looking it should work.

Flip action- flipping over the phone to silence it. Why do I need to do that when I can just as easily hit the volume down, or the reject button (what a novel concept).

S Voice- what a joke this is. This is just random is you can get any useful information out if this.

Camera modes: again your argument was that more was better. It clutters the app, and adds no value to the camera. How many people really used the golf mode? This kind of thing is unnecessary, and just gets in the way.

Heart rate monitor- why does your phone need a heart rate monitor? From what I heard it's not that accurate. Again something to add just to say you have it.

Air Gestures: the one to wave your hand over the phone to wake it. That was the most hit or miss thing I had on my Note 2. It could take me 10 times before I could get it to work. People were having all kinds of issues with air call accept too.

I think this is pretty good list of features that are exclusive to Samsung that are plain garbage. Maybe some of them are being worked on (finger print scanner), but at the moment it is a gimmick. Samsung exclusives is all I am talking about. Trying to throw android features in holds no weight because it has nothing to do with the argument. Unless of course you are changing the argument because you did not have enough good Samsung only features?

Wait! you're an Android user now??!?!?

*Checks to see if hell has frozen over*

For now :p

S5 is that good. Won me over.

Now the question is does Apple have the ability to win me back.

I'll say up front it will take more than Healthbook, a dedicated iTunes radio app, and a 4.7" screen.

I'll be keeping a keen eye on WWDC to get a better idea of what Apple intends to do with this bigger screen being rumored.
