Yes. I mean, may be I am asking too much for a discussion on MR. But seriously most dont seems to have a clue on these unit economics and market. People are thinking customer will buy Apple products because of Apple TV+ ( Seriously ? ).

Yes, considering Apple TV+ is available on so many platforms as an influencing element to buy an Apple TV or an iPhone, it would be an extremely small one.

I’m not interested in Apple TV+ because I already have enough subscriptions and don’t want another one.

Anyone remember the first Netflix original? It was Lilyhammer, in early 2012. It was another year before they released their second original, House of Cards. In comparison, Apple has hit the ground running. I've watched For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Long Way Up (and the other two related shows Long Way Round and Long Way Down, which are on AppleTV+ but not originals), The Banker, On the Rocks, Wolfwalkers and Greyhound. It's probably roughly in proportion to the original content I've watched on Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO or Disney+.

The difference of course is that AppleTV+ is almost totally original content, whereas Netflix and Amazon Prime have a huge third party catalog, and HBO and Disney+ have their own back catalog.

This is likely why Apple is continuing to provide it free, until they have a larger back catalog.

Apple TV+ content is aim at the taste of narrow limited base. Not one of their content appeals to a mass audience yet.
Have you watched any of their shows? Can you give an example of a show on any service that you consider to "appeal to a mass audience"?

I think Ted Lasso, clearly appeals to a mass audience, as does The Morning Show. Their science fiction, horror and documentary clearly do not (SF, documentary and horror are usually niche products).

The funeral of Prince Philip is set to be a big viewing event all over the Commonwealth.

Sorry if that was confusing to you, I was talking about series or films, not one time live events. It may very well be true that people want to watch the funeral, but they will want to watch it with commentators they know of which Apple has none. The also have no capability for mobile live production, nor does it seem that one off events are likely to age well as interesting content for their library.

Apple’s goal needs to be building a content library that has long term value. Other wise, there is no way they can be profitable at anything close to their current price point.

That must have sounded good to yourself when you wrote it. So in 5 years will Apple have a catalog worth 5.99 a month? Others do today. And in 5 years they’ll have even more as well. If it’s not worthwhile right now it won’t be later either.

Apple is hardly all in on this. Pull a string here and there. See where it goes. That’s been apples approach to the living room. And that approach has brought it to this point. An anemic selling Apple TV. An app they have to give away. Discontinued HomePod. No TV set. Siri is still an after thought.

As long as Tim Cook runs Apple expect more of the same.

Yep, that’s why I didn’t subscribe. I actively avoid Apple’s content because of their politics. I prefer neutral entertainment whenever possible, and that’s not really what Apple is about these days.
Care to list some examples of “neutral entertainment” from your point of view?

What have you watched that was too political? This seems to be a popular comment of people who haven’t watched anything.
Yup. The comments I see more often from people repeating what they have heard, rather than what they have seen are:
  • Too political
  • Too politically correct
  • Too “family friendly”
One does not have to love every show to recognize that description does not cover many of the shows (if it covers any of them).

I accept your apology Alan, good to see dignity on the forum. Top Gear did well, perhaps they could try something like that; or if not motoring, something a little different anyway.

I think your list accurately describes Apple's offerings.
