My bet is that the lower-end mini is being discontinued completely, much like the lower-end Apple TV. Maybe the higher-end one stays the same but just gets a price drop. Why else discontinue the lower one but not the higher-end one?

As others have suggested, perhaps the high-end model is becoming the new low-end model, and maybe they'll introduce a new high-end model.

Or just have one mini.

Or do something crazy and unexpected, because with Apple, you never know until it's out the door (or they issue a cease-and-desist :)).

What are you talking about.

Apple is selling plenty of computers.

They're in a nice position where the rest of the industry is reacting to what they do.

Yeah. And the person in my local Best Buy that was talking people out of buying macs was working for whom? I don't know how many of their Best Lie Kiosks are selling many macs with people so boldly ignorant about what they sell.

Some of the choicest bits from Amy the 'sales' person: "They are harder to use than Windows PC's." "We get a lot of them back because people just don't like them."...

My head was almost spinning...

I don't think that most Apple shareholders would agree with the above comment. And that's what it's all about, no?

I for one am pissed that I didn't buy when it was hovering around 70-bucks.

But I blame Lucent for that hesitancy. I bought them after the appreciated and then after holding it for a month, the bottom dropped out and I took a hell of a loss. That was when money wasn't so tight and I got a tax write-off. I couldn't afford to gamble with the Apple stock. Now, kicking myself...

I was in my local Apple store last night. There was a sign stating that the first week in October the store would be closed for a remodel. I asked one of the employees about it and he said it was just a small thing, a few new tables. But why would the store close for a week?

I wonder if this is tied to the rumored new offerings? Anyone else know of stores closing around that time?

My store closed in June and all they did was eliminate a good portion of the software and accessories they carry. They were closed for about a week to do this remodel. They replaced all the shelving with tables and just have an abundance of computers and ipods.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about Blu-ray?

I would like a spec bump on the mini, to a quad core processor, and maybe a little better GPU.

I personally don't care about Blu-ray. My thoughts are also Apple will price the drive way more than it should be. If they include it as an upgrade, I see it being a $300 upgrade. And then the speeds will be way under the norm. They currently only have the DVD Superdrive at 8x yet there are 20x and above DVD burners out there. So the Blu-ray will probably be extremely slow making it useless for anything but video watching. Backing up data would take forever on it, personally, an external hard drive would be better. For a video editor, the speed isn't there, so it would take 2 days to burn the full 50GB of a Blu-Ray when they could buy an external drive that's much faster. Just my thoughts on that.

Cheers:)
But not:(

trim off 140GB and can do 500GB drive for that much. 500GB is still have a 1 TB. That's is just internal. Can dangle drives outside and push archivial stuff to the external storage. ( 400 GB of video on demand is a substantive amount of stuff. can just juggle stuff not actively using to external. )

Guys Keep Dreaming About Bluray :D Cuz The Shots Of an Imac Or Even A Mac Mini getting it Before The Mac Pro are 1 In A Million:D If it does happen it will be a miracle.

I'm quiet happy with my investment, my :apple: shares have more than doubled in less than a year.. I love the financial crisis, lots of opportunities :D

Was that bold really necessary?

Anyway, I really think the changes coming soon will just be minor spec bumps. If there was something as huge as a case redesign, it would almost certainly be showcased. Blu-Ray seems a tad unlikely at this point, but who knows?

What exactly stops them from shipping Blu-ray drives as a BTO option and as an aftermarket upgrade in the current Mac Pro? They could do it day and date with the new iMac and mini.

If Apple were to start shipping with Bluray, it wouldn't be with a silent update they'd do so at an event so everyone could here about it... But who knows Apple is full of surprises. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

getting it Before The Mac Pro are 1 In A Million

They could of course announce it as installable option for the Mac Pro at the same time.

I personally couldn't care less about it myself, but I'd wager that Apple would make more money from it in being a option in a iMac/Mini than they would in a Mac Pro.

So why look after the small amount of 'Pro' owners. Afterall the track record on looking after the 'Pro' hasn't been that great (Glossy screens, Firewire removal - both eventually fixed).

/edit Burai beat me to the initial point!

Blu-ray. Every product's going Blu-Ray. Finally...

That I think, would have already been announced by now and not kept secret

checking out sales figures, BR sales for movies are going down the toilet FAST.
ie: hasnt even captured 10% marketshare to DVDs 90%
sales 2009 Q1,2 breakdown: DVD-$5 Billion, upstart VOD/DDL nearing $1 Billion ($898 million), and Blu Ray........$410 million
(www.videobusiness.com) marketing; Endgadget/Videoscan found it so embarrassing that they pulled the weekly sales marketshare graph from public view

plus BR rentals are paltry compared to DVD
And I dont think it has caught on as a storage solution either

Possible that APPLE will skip BR altogether-the public sure is-and it will only get worse as the economy declines

I'd love Blu-ray in a mini - as I use it for my media computer under the TV.

Blu-ray AND quad core imac and I'll buy one tomorrow :D

O Noze!!

Maybe it's a rogue AI lurking on someone's Windows 7 beta installation trying to make an intelligent comment on their user's behalf?

I for one welcome our Windows 7 beta overlords.... <goes for lie down somewhere dark - all this waiting - arggh>

My iMac has recently developed the 'blue line down the middle of the screen' syndrome.

I'm thinking of buying a Mini and creating a bit of a home theatre.

I don't watch TV, just DVDs and stuff I download.

If I hook the mini up to a big, flat screen display or TV, I think it would be kind of cool.

With a wireless keyboard and mouse, hmm, I think I have a plan.

Would the mini have any limitations/problems achieving this?

Thanks all!

There's a word for what you witnessed: spiff

Sales people can earn more money from manufacturer incentives than they do in salary or commission from their employer. In some cases the payment for selling an item can exceed the profit the store makes on the sale!

Apple has never paid spiffs so salespeople go out of their way to push other products instead.

And you have to remember the majority of the Macs are being sold directly by Apple, not Best Buy.
