A better example is Tony Blair.

At least May is victim of British democracy; Blair got conned by a Bush, and lied to cover it!

May isn’t a victim of anything but her own total self serving arrogance. And Blair was totally in bed with Bush and both should be in jail for war crimes.
What May is dong is far worst then Blair.. Bush did nothing to con Blair, you got that utterly wrong if that’s what you think!

Aren’t you realizing that Android OEMs are also pushing up their prices? Heck, look at OnePlus. The original OnePlus One was only $299. The OnePlus 6T is almost double that. Samsung is selling handsets with SD425 for $200-$300. Xiaomi can only hold its value by sacrificing build (Pocophone using plastic) or using Mediatek (Redmi 6).

Hating Apple on this is illogical and only worsen the state of Android development as it is allowing Qualcomm to continue squeezing the nuts off Android OEMs.

And yet aandroid phones including flagships are regularly discounted, sure you may get deals in the US on iPhones, you don’t outside of it especially in Europe! Here their are clear price differences between Apple and Android, you’ll still be paying the exact same for an iPhone XS next September as now, yet the Note 9 will be massively discounted.

I fail to understand the Apple haters
So someone who disagrees with your point of view is an Apple hater? Thats a bit silly
supporting Qualcomm.
If Qualcomm wins, it spells disaster to Android as well. Qualcomm is pretty much holding Android back.
Personally, If I ran the patent system, I would only award a small percentage of patents that came across my desk.
Most patents are patently obvious. Like a method for viewing pictures on a screen and things like this plain silly.
Look at the dismal state of Android wear thanks to Qualcomm doing practically nothing on the chip side. If you guys think Qualcomm has Apple by the balls, well Qualcomm is already squeezing the nuts of Android OEMs. Only Samsung and Huawei have some leverage against Qualcomm, but even they have to use Qualcomm for many of their handsets.
I have no idea about the merits of this case so won't comment on that but will point out that Apple has saught bans from phone manufacturers such as Nokia and Samsung and they have also put bans on people importing Apple parts.

Discounts are the incentive of resellers to move their inventory. That doesn’t change the fact that the manufacturers set higher and higher price points for their flagships.

I will accept your premise that Bush did not con Blair; maybe it was the military industrial complex at the wildest extreme of reality!

Still, why was Blair in bed with Bush?

Even worse, why did he chose to lie to the people/parliament of the UK and join Bush in the illegal war?

Brexit can be reversed - the votes were by the public, and in the near or distant future they might reverse. I don't like May's politics either, but her doom/lies seem to be from the Brexit mess, not from WMD!

Apple makes the networks and resellers agree to contracts where they are forced not to discount their devices otherwise they can’t sell them. You don’t think they would sell them at lower prices and make more money if they could?? Think about it....
And Android phones are discounted the second month they are on sale, Apple iPhones are not.

You need to go back through history to find your answer, and reversing Brexit is an insult to British democracy and 17.4 million voters! You also deluded if you believe Mays mess is from Brexit.
Not a discussion for this thread either..

Not only that but they are clueless that if affects all other phones as well. It will allow Qualcomm to charge extra to whomever it wants.

Qualcomm should be able to charge whatever they like for their patents and IP, just like Apple have increased the prices of their products to cover loss in sales.

If Apple don’t want to pay don’t use their stuff. Apple is probably feeling how their consumers feel right now with their ridiculous iPhone pricing.

OnePlus can't push prises forever. Also, unlike iOS Android ecosystem is open and competitive. The very reason why the top players keep shaking up is due to this fact.

We know Qualcomm is no angel and tried all bullying tactics in my place with their CDMA tech which eventually got knocked out(much before Apple came with iPhones). Similar fate is possible only in the Android world.

Between Apple vs Qualcomm people will have no reasons to side with Apple due to its own bullying nature.

Makes me wonder what's gonna be the price of new iPhone once they start paying up. We probably gonna start seeing $2000 iPhone next year, I mean who else gonna pay for this. Investors will be like no I'm not paying for this let those suckers pay more because they like our products anyway, just add some fancy new name to it Timmy or else will be selling our shares and invest to others.:D

but the current issue instead stems from separate patents that cover allowing users to "adjust and reformat the size and appearance of photos" and "managing applications using a touch screen when viewing and navigating apps."

They have a patent on resizing images and using a touch screen ?? lol.... Which corrupt and idiotic office granted them these patents ?
And how is pushing a new iOS update going to solve this ? Chinese iphone users won't be able to resize images anymore ??

If it is a sign that China's legal system is actually taking intellectual property rights seriously, then this is a good thing.

Probably the US Patent Office.

No, they don't have patents on those basic actions. The claims at issue are considerably more specific, each incorporates a number of elements.

I actually oppose Qualcomm in this matter, but the counter argument to the injunction isn’t “look how much it would cost,” much less “look how much it would cost us.” The counter argument to a jail sentence isn’t “but I’d lose my job!” That seems like a silly way to argue for a less Draconian penalty.

The proper response might be the software update. I wonder if it really satisfies the alleged patent violations though, as Apple could’ve pushed the update anytime to just end this silliness.

That's not really an argument for or against anything ...
Actually it is, sadly. He’s arguing against utilitarianism. Basically saying that 15k people making high salaries is better than 5 million making some salary. He’s wrong btw but that was the point of his statement.

'Look how much it would cost us' isn't an argument in response to a finding of infringement. It's part of an argument in response to a preliminary injunction being issued. And if the Chinese legal system is like our own in ways which are relevant here (which it seems to be), then that is a proper argument.

The court hasn't made a final decision concerning infringement. But Qualcomm asked for a preliminary injunction in the meantime, such that Apple couldn't import, sale, or offer for sale certain products while the court was hearing and deciding the infringement issue. When considering whether to issue a preliminary injunction (or leave one in place), a court is supposed to consider not only the likelihood that the moving party will succeed on the merits (e.g. in this case, whether Apple will be found to have infringed), but other factors as well. The balance of harms - i.e. how much will not issuing an injunction harm the moving party and how much will issuing one harm the non-moving party - is one such factor.

Reversing Brexit would only be an insult to about 15.8M voters now, and falling. Although I'm sure even amongst that number there must be many who realise that the thing about democracy is that you have to keep doing it, over and over.

Wow, so Apple builds a new campus in Austin for 1 Billion and hires 15k workers...

Meanwhile China got 5 million Apple jobs.

Ahh, what will America look like in the future? A growing population and an ever shrinking supply of jobs. Buckle up, we are headed for a cliff.
Don't forget to add millions more worker due to other U.S. and European companies manufacturing products in China.

lol, poor apple. Such greed. I upgraded every single year until I got the 8+. After that you’ve never been worth the money.

So why is it "greed" for Apple to charge the prices they do, but not "greed" for you to expect them to sell it to you for less? Oh, that's right, only other people are greedy.

Apple likes to exaggerate things when their pants are on fire. "It will certainly affect polar caps melting, meteor will hit the earth, world and economy will collapse ". Who cares about you Apple, we are sick of your bulls*its

Again, the logic just doesn’t make sense to allow Qualcomm being in a more powerful position just because one is not a fan of Apple. Seems short sighted and stupid.

I too smell desperation from Apple. Apple is over. According to folks at Furum Research,

How long will this preliminary injunction last?

A better way to ask that question is how long could it last? The answer is: Indefinitely.

Three options emerge, as we understand the case:

1) It can last until the patents expire. One expires in 2024 and the other in 2029.

2) Another possibility is that the court will eventually issue a final verdict that favors Apple, but I don’t think a date for that has been set yet. (More on that in a moment.)

3) A third possibility is that Apple could agree to settle its dispute with Qualcomm, and potentially make all of these patent infringement lawsuits go away. Since Qualcomm filed these complaints, in theory, Qualcomm could also withdraw them, thereby moving all cause for injunctions and trials.
[\QUOTE]

Apple is probably lying about the soft update out of desperation. Also remember that the preliminary injunction can not be appealed contrary to earlier misreporting that Apple was appealing the court order.

Do you have a source for that, or any precedence?

“Based on the iPhone models we offer today in China, we believe we are in compliance,” Apple said.

“Early next week we will deliver a software update for iPhone users in China addressing the minor functionality of the two patents at issue in the case.”
