No, the person that you responded to is right. Charging via cable is the best option from a purely objective technical standpoint. In addition to being faster, it is more efficient, creates less heat, and is better for battery health and longevity. It may not be as convenient for you, but there's no logical argument to be made that it isn't technically superior. Any argument otherwise is simply being intellectually dishonest.

And sometimes, you know what makes something the "best"? Convenience.

Wrong, he said 'best option', that's a pretty broad claim. Best option for convenience or best option for power efficiency? There are good arguments for both sides, and there are situations where both are valid, luckily we can still choose which one to use, and/or use a combination of both depending on the use case.

Am I the only one who likes the look of the circles symmetrically framing the logo?

It's like subtle sound waves emanating from the Apple, and an added accent to how leather satisfyingly wears over time.
It’s fine. Lots of drama queens around here lol.

Tire kickers will have another reason not to buy something they were never going to buy in the first place, but few actual buyers will care 🤷‍♂️

Seems like it is a fingerprint magnet though - correct?

I got the perfect solution for everyone, just get apple's clear case, it's got a huge circle already built-in for aesthetic beauty, and no risk of circular imprints. 🤦‍♂️

could this be the type of silicon they're using on the charger? seems unlikely the metal will be affecting the leather, so a chemical reaction with the silicon? I know I've had issues with silicon marking a wooden table before. But don't a ton of wireless chargers have silcon for protection, or are they more plastic?

I do wonder about the metal possibly marking the rear glass, especially being pulled into position with the magnet

I see it as a non-issue, being cases eventually Show some form of wear anyways in some form or another. At least Apple has the decency to ‘warn’ customers versus customers finding the ring on their own.

Did not receive my iPhone 12 yet. I tried it on my iPhone XS smart battery case just to see if it works. After a short while, that disk got pretty hot. I am thinking about returning it.

But heat is kind of expected with inductive chargers.

One of the youtube video reviewer's was speculating that it might actually damage the glass of the phone over time. I think it's better to let it damage the case instead.

Trapped dirt could make some slight scratches and maybe leave a mark but at least on glass you should be able to wipe that off in my opinion.

Oh great, they really thought this through. Why didn’t they just put a regular MagSafe port on the phone and charge at full 20 watt speed? This “wireless” charging is ridiculous. It’s not really wireless if your charger has a wire. Better to just return to the GREAT MagSafe connector from the MacBook Pro. It’s far more durable than the lightning connector anyway!

I also have zero doubts that its going to leave marks on a phone with no case. Its not often that I feel this way about Apple products, but MagSafe is a major disappointment for me with all of the issues it has out of the gate.

Fascinatingly insightful info from Apple. What customer would have expected that?

In related news, leaving a coffee cup on a wood table can leave a water mark.

Placing an iPhone on the ground can scratch the phone.

Driving your car wears down tires.

Walking on a hardwood floor in dress shoes can leave scuff marks.

Oh, and there's this new invention called a screen protector. Check it out, because it's possible to cause marks on your iPhone screen inadvertently during normal use and accidents, etc.

Write these down, people, so they don't surprise you when it happens!

Edit: All I’m saying is, outside of a glass case, it’s so likely that a magntetic attachment pressing into leather is going to leave a mark. I’m making fun of this bit of obvious being news/article-worthy, and for apple having to actually officially state as such.

I'm not sure about decency...Its more about getting out in front of it to keep from having to constantly replace cases. "We say in our support article that this is normal so no need for a replacement."

And I'd also disagree with the "some form of wear." There is a difference between a nice patina forming on a leather case and an ugly ring on the back of your case from wear your charger is pressing into it.

Not sure any of those are Apples to Apples comparisons. You are talking about things that are normal in every day life. I'm not sure its normal for a wireless charger to damage your brand new case you put on your phone.

You mention a screen protector to protect the screen, do we need a case protector to protect our cases now?

I meant: something touching something else repeatedly is going to leave a mark. Grand Canyon, anyone? Especially something prone to heating up. After all, why do some of us use cases on our phones...

Would anyone drape their leather jacket over a radiator, even if at low heat?

Ha ha yeah really.

Circular imprints! The horror, the horror.

Well to be fair, some people (myself included) don't like to spend money on a case that is going to be damaged through no fault of our own. I get that its not a huge deal, but if my case is going to get marks on it I'd prefer it be through me doing something to cause it and not from simply attaching it to the charger that Apple is marketing as the next big thing.
