Not that you should have too, but why not just get a screen protector and cut to size and attach to MagSafe charger

I reckon apple will sell them ... $29

Didn’t they test it? Why sell something that will damage another accessory that it’s supposed to be used with? Ridiculous engineering and product design. Fire the whole department!

(Reminds of something I discovered a few days ago when I got my SS AWS6 - the Milanese loop scratches the charging puck that comes with the watch).

Yeah the resulting behaviour seems so obvious when you think about it that it’s really a wonder how that got approved after testing. Wouldn’t they expect people to be upset when the cases show marks so quickly?

Fortunately, not an issue for me. I plan to continue charging my new iPhone 12 using the 12 watt/2.4 ampere USB-A to Lightning connection--and the charging speed should be almost the same as charging my old iPhone X.

I really liked the idea of MagSafe but either the technology just isn’t there yet or Apple really bungled this whole thing. From the dreadfully slow charging times, to the accessories not living up to expectations, to now the charging puck itself damaging cases or even potentially the back glass of the phone there is plenty for Apple to be ashamed of here.

I expect a high quality from Apple but this is embarrassing.
What accessories aren’t living up to whose expectations? We don’t know about dreadfully slow charging times until there is a complete picture. And what about the charging puck damaging the glass?

Magsafegate! ;)

Definitely going to be a pass for me as well. Probably wouldn't get one anyway. But this is the latest reason to definitely not purchase Magsafe. The wireless charging pad I got last year still works just fine.

Am I the only one who likes the look of the circles symmetrically framing the logo?

It's like subtle sound waves emanating from the Apple, and an added accent to how leather satisfyingly wears over time.

OK less than 24 hours with iPhone 12 Pro in hand and using the Magsafe, phone feels like a heavy brick in hand using it. Cable short as well. Seeing this now, Ill be returning the Magsafe and the clear case today

Wow! hmm I was thinking of using both at the same time too when I get my iPhone 12 PM... which we already know is going weigh more than the iPhone 12 Pro...

I picked up 3 magsafe for my parents and I the other day along with the cases... still unopened and now with this news coming out... I'm thinking of returning it all (but I do like the plum case for my mom tho) because if it does slow charging (which defeat the purpose of keeping these magsafe pucks)... then I'll just stick with my QI wireless charging. I wonder if the slow charging is a software bug tho...

Well this is bloody marvellous. My Apple watch S6 graphite milanese loop scratches the unscratchable graphite watch body and now my new magsafe charger is going to ruin all my expensive 12 pro cases. I think I might have to fish the magsafe box out of the bin and return it.

Alternatively I could just remove the case every time I want to charge the phone. This is actually turning out to be more hassle than it’s worth. I have already had to ponce about with extension cables due to the short cord length and blu tack the thing down so I can lift the phone off one handed. With reports now that it is very slow charging for all other devices I don’t think I will bother. It is quite a cool looking puck though. I may just give it to my daughter to use as a hat or something.

I definitely noticed that my iPhone 12 was quite warm when taking it off the MagSafe charger this morning from an overnight charge.

My iPhone 11 Pro on a Belkin wireless charger never did that.

One of the youtube video reviewer's was speculating that it might actually damage the glass of the phone over time. I think it's better to let it damage the case instead.

Palm Pre had Magsafe in 2009, yes, inductive charging and magnets with a cool dock, and it worked well.

Sure Palm died but Apple had 11 years to copy and perfect it.

Come on.

Quote from the second video:

...there is also access to this soft-touch rubber behind this magnet which allows to protect your phone so it doesn’t scratch when you have it positioned on this dock

Blame physics. The previous charger wasn’t using as much power and thus won’t generate as much heat.

Again. The iPhone 12 with mag safe. Not the greatest invention. Looks like another company these years. Design is same old story..and wireless Load is not the best solution.

Happy i decided stay with my 11 pro until they release some 120hz model :) even i been updating every year since iphone 5 before
