Wait, so is this implying that there’s going to be some sort of update available for these new devices out of the box? Will they not be shipping with iOS 15? What a poorly worded article by Apple.
I got my 13 Pro Max today, it had iOS 15 with an update available out of the box. I updated and had no issues with Apple Music. I didn’t test it prior to the update. I did have an issue with all my apps going into other but it resolved itself after 15 minutes or so.

Yeah, would require an update to be installed since the factory installed image would have been baked last week when they flashed and shipped the initial devices.

This isn't unusual. It isn't as bad as the iPhone X (or so) when it released and needed a full iOS update and install out of the box since the version of iOS flashed at the factory was too buggy to even work out of the box! It updated right in the setup out of box. But that was only for the launch day crop.

I was legit going to do an iCloud back up for first time this year and now all this.
Guess I’m going to set up without transferring apps or data. Which I think is the version of new?

You can still do a restore from backup. You need to setup as new, do software update, erases all contents, setup and restore from backup. This isn't all that bad. The nice thing is at least we have a heads up on this.

I'm assuming that since you can now update new devices to the beta when restoring from a beta device that anyone on 15.1 won't have this issue?

Just confirming that the update contains 19A346? I hope so as I downloaded it today preparing for another slow network day from Optimum to Apple. (The 6GB .ipsw file would have taken over 24 hours over Wi-Fi but took me 15 mins over Verizon LTE). I also have my apps and backup downloaded to iMazing. First time doing this since my ISP went to $#*%.

I might do that. But unless I’m wrong back up will just carry over settings and apps and data. The rest. Photos and messages and etc carry over anyway.

So for an iTunes library that can be nuked anytime THEY want, Apple STILL manage to f… it up? Seriously? And yet they push another promote for 6 month free Apple Music? I see something not quite adding up here.
I reckon they have been making it harder and harder to access and keep track/sync your own music library. It might genuinely because the software is unreliable, and doesn't sync reliably across multiple devices..... but it wouldn't surprise me if it is designed to make you give up and just use a subscription service.

Yes. It’s an Illuminati thing. Everything is, right?

I get that the amount of features and complexity has exploded who knows how many orders of magnitude since the first calculators but why release like this? I was hesitant to upgrade, now I am a whole lot more. For me it’s like if it wasn’t released just yet until .1, .2 or whichever dot version makes it fully stable. Maybe would tinker with it during vacations or downtime where there’s time to recover from catastrophic fails.

Same with macOS, it took me almost a full year to make the jump to Big Sur and here we are almost ready for the next jump, rinse and repeat.

Maybe yearly new OSs are just too much both for the creators and the customers alike? I don’t see windows releasing Windows or Word 95, 96, 97… 2022.

I don’t get your point. Hardware *often* requires an immediate update when you power it on the first time. They had to freeze the software image weeks ago. Meanwhile there was an additional update of ios 15 since the release candidate.

The point is, Apple software quality is declining. Their “stable” releases are no longer as stable as they used to be, and no longer meets customer expectations.

Wow, iOS15 is turning into a mess very very quickly. I mean this is quite basic no, since Apple Music has existed on older iOSes. And this is going to be the first "out of the box" (poor) experience for many people.

But hey, let's trust Apple for being the moral police. Nothing could ever go wrong.... 😂

The point is, their stable release doesn‘t have the very problem we are talking about. The release on the shipped phones is not the stable release - it’s a release that corresponds to the developer beta from about 2 weeks ago.

What this story shows is that the *release* is fine, but the beta is not. So what’s the problem?

This is not an iOS 15 problem. It’s an unreleased iOS beta problem.

I'm guessing it's part of the reason Apple is still supporting iOS14.
Yes, I do think it's enough with the yearly numerical releases. Apple should just announce something like iOS365, and just update it perpetually without having to do major number releases every year. That way, the team can focus in fine-tuning the bugs instead of being forced to come up with "new features" every year.
